- martalli, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39I don't think blood is archival-quality. The color fades over time...
- rye425, on 10/12/2007, -4/+36When my HP Officejet 6210xi All-in-One starts to run on human blood or booze then give me a call. Until then i'll stick to ink.

Good luck. I said the exact same thing before I bought a new laser printer from HP. It used to be that you avoided all this BS with a laser.. Not anymore. With the new lasers they control the prices on the toner cartridges and the cartridges hold less toner, so it's about as expensive as ink.
I have an old HP laserjet 6p that has done the job for almost a decade with maybe one or two cheap toner replacements. Those days are over.
There's a special place in hell reserved for companies who make printers. - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22i just buy a new printer instead of cartridges.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Scorpion venom: $38,858,507.46 / gallon
Time to milk me some scorpions... - sdrawkcaB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19***** that, I can supply my own blood for free. Should some crazy reason present itself. No wonder they want me to donate blood so badly.
- skoobisnaxs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17that doesn't make any sense. You know those printers come with starter capacity cartridges that are less than half full compared to the normal ones right?
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Damn you must have a lot of printers.
- thelastknowngod, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18hp ink is cheap compared to lexmark/dell/compaq ink.
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15$122,000 a gallon! Thank god my car doesn't run on LSD!
Although I can imagine that would be quite the ride. - sembetu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Try this. I have a bottle of '85 Dom Perignon, which I got as a wedding present. I was going to sell it once, so I was looking up the valuation on it. Turned out, inkjet ink costs more per ml that a bottle of '85 Dom. Crazy.
- ggko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12First you need to find a really low stool and a tiny pail...
- MasterChi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10http://www.cockeyed.com/science/gallon/liquid.html
A great amount of liquid per price comparisons(and pics of a good looking lady) to fancy your interests, and it includes contact solution compared to black ink :) - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9vodka + blood times oil = ink
- jamessavik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I have a Lexmark and that sucker's ink cart costs about $40 a pop.
Next time I'm going to bite the bullet and get a laser. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'll stick to my laser thanks all the same.
Got a nice canon inkjet for pictures, but at least I can get 'copy' carts for around $1.50 instead of paying the rrp on real carts from canon. - krakkinem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Screw this, I'm gonna buy an octopus and farm my own ink. Anybody else want in?
- JTForce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It would be nice to see a comparison to other ink. I know Lexmark makes you actually pay with your own blood if you need more ink.
- iFrank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6So THAT's why we're in Iraq!
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6In my experience though
Epson = Guzzles ink
Canon = Sips ink - ggko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+547 fluids (ink included) compared by the gallon.
http://www.cockeyed.com/science/gallon/liquid.html - subterfu9e, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Um, whatever happened to self refilling? At 1/4 of the price of an original ink jet replacement, it kinda makes sense instead of filling these ink companies' coffers with more cash than they deserve.
- NCSUGavin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'd like to see what it costs compared to say contact solution or even better yet eye drops...
- OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Just get a laser printer and keep that inkjet printer for the odd color printouts.
- oMeSSiaHo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The 45 costs so much because it hold 40ml of ink. Most modern black cartridges only hold like 20ml of ink and is only a few bucks cheaper. It costs more buth its cheaper per print. Now if you dont mind, I'm going to go shoot myself for knowing that. Stupid office supply store...
- archlich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My parents bought a laser printer about 10 years ago and needed to change the ink last year. They did just what you said and got a inkjet just for pictures. Good move on their part.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Where is Epson and Canon ink? That stuff is expensive... At my local Future Shop (aka Best Buy) it costs $90CAD+tax to fill up a new Epson printer entirely, and $30+tax for the black alone. This is a new printer we're talking about!
HP #45 is the most expensive ink HP has, and that is because it isn't even used anymore.
There are more efficient ink printers out there than those taking #45 (Like Series-02 Ink)... or just shut up and buy a laser. I did, and I'm waaaay happier. - JonnyTrombone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And there are those new ink cartridges that stop working after 90 days (from first plug in)... What a load of crap.
- DeusMachinae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Where can I get some of that there blood?
- vudicarus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4proxycastle:
notice the consistently negative diggs on your comments?
here's a hint: stop spamming your site alright?
maybe you ought to digg something every now and then....maybe even submit a story. - Gunegune, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"More ink doesn't mean more prints :("
Really? How so? - Vektuz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, thats a pretty awesome blood-for-oil conversion rate.
From the graph it appears like one 500ml blood will buy you like 100 barrels of oil - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5What about Starbuck's coffee? That's way more expensive. ;)
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I refill inkjet cartridges and laser toners all the time, the whole process takes maybe 5 minutes - getting/unpacking refill kit, get cartridge, replace cartridge, test/clean print - and has minimal or no mess.
The only problems I've run into is when the inkjet carts go completely empty thus drying up the print head making it difficult to get working again. And then replacing/cleaning the toner drum. - rolf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Unless you're a poor student (and even then), a cheap laser is more economical than an inkjet. I tried the refilling route, let's see the joys:
-color all over the heads
-screwed up printheads the printer helpfully refuses to recognize
-dried up printheads if you don't use it consistently
-half an hour down the drain every 300 pages
-ink all over the sink and the floor, more clean-up
A fun process, to be sure. OTOH, a cheap laser starts at $99, and the printouts go into the thousands. Usually a more expensive laser prints more per cartridge. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2More ink doesn't mean more prints :(
- frank3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i got the brother hl-2040 from buy.com for $50 after rebates, and its incredible, and only about 2 cents a page with official toner. if anyone is in the market for a cheapo laser, look into this one (the buy.com sale is over, but there are others)
- hypercube33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My Cannon i850 costs me $45 to get all of my color cartriges and two blacks, and since they are separate I can usually not go through all of them, just one or two. I also use an old HP LaserJet IIb or whatever for black and white (text) since I dont usually care.
I've printed a few hundred sheets from both and havent had to change yet.
@zweben - I used to have a Epson printer and it liked to ***** out ink all over the inside of the printer when the heads would dry up and I'd have to clean them. Another crappy feature that made me never want to buy their printers again. - hypercube33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is not news. If any of you were readers of printed material like Consumer Reports, they compare things like this, and HP ink is usually 3x what Cannon charges, and 2x everyone else.
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1understand that would not affect the ratios...
- xxNIRVANAxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1YES!
- ggko, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The 2-pack of inks (black & tri-color cartridges) I bought last week cost me $55.
After rebates my printer cost me $40.
Plus it's a one of those combination printer/scanners, so I imagine a dedicated printer could cost even less. (I've seen a Lexmark at the Grocery Outlet store for about $12, but no ink included.) - oMeSSiaHo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually printing now isnt that bad. Pretty much every new HP printer will use multi ink systems (02, 11, 10), Brother has the colors split (21, 41, 51) and all Canon and Epson printers have multi ink as well. It seems just Lexmark and Dell are the only hold outs. Laser printer are pretty cheap now as well.
- amonthei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Figured it out. Cover up the top right pin contact and the three below it. Your printer will act weird for a minute before submitting, and then victory will be yours.
- diggdong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Drink ink - it will get you high.
- inkubux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1mmm Booze...
- amonthei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone know the trick to covering up pins on the HP 45 to make it appear to be an HP 15? I did this once a long time ago but now can't figure it out again. My 940c only takes the 15 which sucks really bad.
- AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1HP ink costs $2650 per gallon.
Who said black gold was oil? - Dgen_X, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I sell the Brother 2040 like crazy...every small business owner who comes in looking for printer with low CPP ends up walking out the door with that one
but yeah...I dumped my old printer that used HP45...going to pick up a deskjet 5440 that uses the 7ml #20 for $15.99 (230 page yield)...mainly because the printer is $29.99 out the door until the end of the year
ink sucks... - Decio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Really? How so?"
Newer printers are supposed to use less ink per print. -
