- Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28So they'll be geographically closer?
Who cares? AMD and Intel are basically next door to each other. - Himself, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19because we're all waiting for news of warring in the streets
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Can someone please explakn to me how Google CONSIDERING buying a building is newsworthy?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Because Google = News
- john2kx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Their physical locations are a non-issue..
MS and NOA have been headquartered 1/2 a mile away from each other for years without incident of any kind..... - babylonian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Imagine this story again, except with Microsoft thinking about buying property near Google. Who wants to volunteer first to spin that into proof of Microsoft being an evil coorporate monster?
- RedKrieg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I think its a lot more like Monopoly than chess.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Even on digg, morons who still think it is clever to use a dollar sign for MS usually get made fun of. Just a heads up. You are not clever, you are not original. You are lame.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Yeah...thaty is my point. Soon Digg will be filled with posts like Sergey (or Steve Jobs for that matter) is considering whether or not to get a Bic Mac or McNuggets
- Ashex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@nox327
You forget that Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond and that other city (Can't remember the name) are so big they literally crossover. And 6 miles is pretty damn close. - leanbackvids, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3projek7 nailed it... it's all about the "talent pool".
the seattle area has a lot of tech-centric employees
the supply exceeds the demand right now
and google could lure a lot of high-quality works from their current jobs.
on some level, that hurts microsloth if they lose employees,
and when the talent pool is drained.
it is too bad google is expanding on the east side, cause there is
a lot of new office space in downtown seattle. - ratbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Almost forgot: I've heard that Google is also considering the Safeco tower in the university district of Seattle. It is the tallest tower outside of the Seattle CBD, and will be available for lease shortly. It is visible from Bill Gates' propery on Lake Washington.
- smohan123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"I want to be careful, but at the same time I don't know how you keep an elephant walking through town a secret," he said. "But that is (Google's) intent."
Hilarious.
I wonder what M$'s response will be... - Escamillo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So what?
Nintendo of America is right across the street from one of Microsoft's buildings. Wow, two competitors are close together!! OMG!!!
Slow news day.
But why the hell does Google need 20 stories? They don't have that many employees. I guess they're going to rent out the office space to others.
(Microsoft has a couple dozen buildings, most of which are 2 stories, a few have as many as 4 stories.) - pixelbeat_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've seen reference to the fact that 100 engineers have left M$ for google.
A few high profile ones are listed here:
http://www.pixelbeat.org/docs/google_stars.html - motang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hmm interesting, I wonder what type of job openings they are going to have.
- HsoKinees, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hmm... googleplex~
- nox327, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8That is not even close to Microsoft. They will be in downtown Bellevue in the Financial Area, and Microsoft is in Redmond about 6 miles away. I live right next to Microsoft, across from building 34 (where bill gates works) and I can tell you that downtown bellevue is not the backyard to Microsoft, its a different city. They have offices in Kirkland and that is almost as close to the new location.
- quietbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1where on google maps?
- Wang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, that's great news for homeowners on the east-side....but bad news for people who have not yet purchased a home - house prices are already expensive enough just with Microsoft being there!
- TungFu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3its newsworthy to me, but then again, I live in Bellevue. now where did I put that resume...
- ratbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is a rendering posted at the construction site of the building that Google is considering. It is hideous in my opinion. We'll see, sometimes renderings look worse than the actual building. There are twin 42 story condo towers going up pretty much across the street at the same time, so some of them could walk to work in less than a minute if they wanted to. Microsoft is actually leasing around 20 floors or so of a tower under construction a few blocks north, to house their sales division.
- technonerd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I think the city you're talking about may be Sammamish or Renton. I live in this area as well, and I think it could become interesting.
- gd007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2google can take away microsoft employees more easily. just attended a interview at google during lunch break. no need to vacation or use the sick leave.
- artcancro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If I remember correctly, Microsoft was once located *in* Bellevue.
- jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Well i live in WA as well (wenatchee) only about 200miles from them lol
- toddbu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1With a tower that tall, probably lots of jobs for cleaning people.
- gburd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seattle/Kirkland Jobs
- babylonian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3lakawak: I've never seen anyone but me point out how freaking lame the MICRO$OFT (lol capitalism) gimmick is, and when I do, I normally get dugg down. I love you for this post.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5No it doesn't. Google and Microsoft are not playing the same game first of all. No matter how much you desperattely want to believe that Google is poised to compete with MS in anything except the search engine, it is not going to happen.
Google is not considering buying this building because it is near MS, and Bill Gates hasn't let this news enter his brain for even one millionth or a second. - Lar5P, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft already has an office in Mountain View, just a few blocks from The Googleplex. They may have been there first, I don't know. Plenty of Google employees, including myself, bike across their parking lot for their commute, but I don't think there have been any incidents.
- Celeron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Too bad its not Fremont, CA; 30 minutes away from Mountain View. :(
- WackyT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Who cares? Unless they're moving closer to Microsoft because of a potential merger. I think Google would be a good upgrade to MSN Search, don't you?
- KentuckyRedNeck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I forget...is Google "evil" this week? We all
know Microsoft, Wal-Mart and the internal
combustion engine is... - tomvendetta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@both of you who attacked him for using m$:
who really cares? its one character. I would rather see him use the dollar sign than 2 c him TiPe LyKE DiS!!!~
let him type it how he wants. - Opiuman, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8I think there's more to this. A lot (and I mean a *LOT*) of Microsoft developers are leaving M$ and joining G00gle. Now it'll make working for Google that much more attractive (no need to relocate...)
- jahman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0which fremont is the poster referring to? i know of fremont in CA (sort of across the bridge from mt view). in any case, doesnt MS also have a decent size development in mt view IIRC?
- weaszel, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5yes, it's just like a game of chess in that one large company buys a building near another large company.
- Harboggles, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Heh i live in bellevue.

What is Digg?
