- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -8/+248Why Google? iGoogle?
- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -6/+197iSeewhatyoudidthere
- swaggadocio, on 08/20/2008, -12/+198aah! I always wondered the relevance of /ig now the rebrand makes it clear.
Interesting to see what Apple do. As we have seen in the past, usage of the i prefix has often prompted sternly worded cease and desist notices from Apple legal threatening litigation. If Apple don't go after Google (Which I doubt they will), they might have trouble proving infringement of trademarks pertaining to the i prefix in future litigation. An end to frivolous threats from Apple legal? Let's hope. - ViceVirtue, on 10/12/2007, -16/+191iGoogle, therefore iAm.
- TiggyThaiMein, on 10/12/2007, -17/+180iDontcare
- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -11/+136Maybe because Google and Apple are getting it on? :-)
- EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+94Lest we forget that Apple partnered with Google to include some Google apps for the iPhone. I'm willing to bet iGoogle will work seamlessly on your iPhone.
- ialan2, on 10/12/2007, -33/+116iPod therefore iGoogle.
- databyss, on 10/12/2007, -13/+78iLook forward to the rebranding of orkut to wiiGoogle
Seriously though... iGoogle is just stupid and the image looks annoying. - effinboy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+63iWishtheyhadn'tnameditthat
- EndersGame, on 10/12/2007, -6/+57Not only that but it isn't that catchy, it just sounds like a lame rip off of Apple products. Then again I don't really care, its just a personalized home page.
- coredump0x01, on 10/12/2007, -12/+62The iLawsuit.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+61iDontcare with inodigg
- 5HTP, on 10/12/2007, -5/+50iGoogle sounds better than personalised homepage. Plus there's a rumour going around that google might be releasing their own mp3 player, like how they're also releasing their own operating system, mobile phone and WMD.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+55NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooo..... More *****!!!! How long before I have an iToilet in my iHouse? Seriously, this is getting a bit old. At first it was e-whatever, for electronic stuff, mostly. Now it's iWhatever. Makes no sense at all. Those marketing 'geniuses' are all high on the iWeed.
- piesforyou, on 10/12/2007, -6/+50it should have been iGoo
- gadgetuk, on 10/12/2007, -15/+46I thought Google wanted people to stop using "google" as a verb, surely putting a personal possessive in front is just going to make that situation worse?
- fremeer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31well the i in iPOD meant internet initially. I think its quite lame though, should have called it Google Home Basic, then if u want the nice effects Google Home Premium. The business's have enterprise and if u want it all u need google ultimate super edition.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -7/+32Apple wasn't the first company to put "i" in front of another word for a product name. It was very popular in the late 90's to do that with the letters "i", "e", and sometimes "d" (internet, electronic, and digital).
That being said, iGoogle is a stupid name. - diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26And you're such a fungi, too!
- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28You must be referring to iAnal. It'll be out the tail end of the new month.
- crashflow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23iKaramba
- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Can someone explain this move? How does adding a green lowercase 'i' before their logo brand the Google homepage any differently?
- iamjames, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28iBury
- Miche1987, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Also MySpace.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21A better name would have been G+.
- lordshank, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21@ effinboy
Ditto, and now half of my gadgets don't work, iThanksalotassholes. And to set the record straight, the "i" convention in apple products is just as bad as the "my" in windows. I think we all know who put that ***** on our computers, can we quit being redundant? - styn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22I used to like google
just as iThought the "i"Whatever was blowing over, damn you google! - ijeff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Apple and Google have strong relations between each other with Google execs within Apple.
Eric E. Schmidt CEO of Google sits on Apple's board of directors. - kalidav, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Ugh, was wondering where that stupid 'i' came from. Now how do we get rid of it?
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19iGoogle = http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/search/igoogle.html
- sarge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17@diggfinity
I bet you have been waiting years to use that one... dugg - kingkilr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Cool digg got some advertising, on one of the pages for the new gadgets the example says, reading digg.com
http://www.google.com/ig/gmchoices - diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17It sounds to me like Google's techies are trying on their "Marketing" hats... in the end we'll have five different products with completely unrelated names that will wind up confusing Joe Consumer. "iGoogle" does not tell me what the product is or does. "Google Homepage" did...
- thefurryone, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16iDildo!
- bovox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16when i read the headline i thought it was a joke because it's such a silly name.
my god, can't google afford to hire actual branding professionals to help them brand the site? geeeeezus. - GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18iANAL but iThink Google will win that one.
- zadadka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I like my Summer Theme, with the sun slowly moving across the horizon...which is handy, because, as a mushroom, I have no idea whether it's day or night......
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15@diggfinity
"iPod" doesn't tell me what the product is either, but it seems to sell okay. - nsjoker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Is this a joke? Look at that stupid i just sitting there. Come on Google you're better than that, right?
- f00xx0riz3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Kinda interesting they're going opposite ways there.
Froogle > Products
Google homepage > iGoogle
They should atleast be consistent with Google Products & Google Homepage OR iGoogle & Froogle. - biggrz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15@blueskydiver76
You gotta find it first bub.
;) - edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14That's going to be the butt of a few jokes.
- biggrz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Hope they don't let things get any further behind.
- theOster, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14iDon't
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -9/+17I'd have prefered MyGoogle than this i nonsense.
- dogarms, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13No need to be cheeky!
- joeshlub, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13It's the iMacs birthday. That entire article is ***** based on todays special google logo. It was the same one last year this time though...
- GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10What's happening is we are slowly moving through the alphabet. A few years ago everything was e* now it's i*. I have already trademarked j* so you ***** had better not infringe on my property otherwise my modern jLawyers will own you jAsses.
