- weirdralph, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Here's the how-to for webmasters:
http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2007/08/youtube-style-embeddable-maps_21.html - ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -1/+12Finally, I've been waiting for an easy way to do this without bothering with the API.
- IShouldBeWorkin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I was wondering when this inevitability was going to come around, kudos google, nice work!
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I don't think that will help.
- iWasHere, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Nice use of SVG
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Hooked on Phonics?
- inigomntoya, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Huh - What's on your mind? What are you thinking of doing later this week? Let me know how it goes!
- Mejogid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Are you yoda?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2iWeb '08 hinted at this feature, very nice :)
- inigomntoya, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, let's give him a break. At least he's consistent!
- badmephisto, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I thought this was already implemented :s
- CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2OK, after reading weirdralph's link this makes more sense. The whole requiring a key was a pain...
- screwzluse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I am a tad surprised it took this long for a release but I'm extremely happy they released it.
- tom2275, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3IFrame? What's the big deal with that? All they've done is given you the same linkable map and setting it as the src for an IFrame. Not new technology, nothing they developed, just an IFrame?
- j3one, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Exactly. Some old 1999 web dev guy who is a janitor at Google now, walks up and looks over the shoulder of 6 top Google developers working on the third version of the maps api, struggling with what technologies to embrace, scalability, flash, javascript trying desperately to improve the development time for webmasters and stretch their cool implementation of custom maps.... "Uhh, why don't you guys just take the "link to this page" link, and put it in an iframe?"
Brother... - Liembo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2About darn time.. I thought it was weird that 3rd party folks were providing ways to do this, but not google themselves.
thanks - dezertrat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2all his comments are like that - take a look http://www.digg.com/users/ronjunky/news/commented
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It works great, I put is up on http://www.myfoxrio.com/diningdetail/?id=1 dining guide. It was easy.
- yanki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1mapplets api provide ways to proxy xml and html files through google servers. will be interesting to see how these methods are exploited/abused.
Instead, the Google Gadgets API provides the following calls which will fetch content via a proxy running on gmodules.com:
* _IG_FetchContent(url, callback) -- Returns the content at url as text. This is the function you should use for working with HTML content.
* _IG_FetchXMLContent(url, callback) -- Returns and operates on the XML content at url as a DOM object. - maybeinoregon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The add google map feature, is a single click in iWeb 08, which is in iLife O8 - another google specific feature in iWeb 08 is adding a google ad, that sniffs out what your web page is about (mikes wedding for instance) - google then focuses ads toward the target market (weddings), then sends you dividends when users click on the ad from your web page - pretty slick.
- melat0nin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Does it require lat and long or can standard text addresses be used?
- jamesarice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wow, this is so much easier :D
- Username222, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This is pretty cool. You could set it up with php and phoogle but now I guess you can put it on your myspace or your blog. It also makes it much easier to do google maps. Good job, google!
- kenvsryu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2This took long enough. I would think integrating to all their products, blogger, would be first priority, but what do I know.
- aquataine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://streetviewr.com/embed/ allows you to do the same thing with Google Street Views which are disallowed using the plain old Google technique
- QuickFix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Very nice. I can see loads of businesses (both big and small) adding it to their websites.
- thebraineater, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1you've been able to do this for quite some time.. now it's just easier to do and better advertised.
- geoken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The most ironic thing about your post is that Yahoo has offered this for a while with flash sites. I'm guessing the point you were trying to make was that 'once again google leads the pack in innovation', when in actuality you've only succeeded in proving that google could do what many others already do and be heralded as innovators.
- Shiner6, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Has anyone had any success embedding this and not using the exact code from GOOG. I tried changing the address myself, no luck.
- thebraineater, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1you've been able to do this for quite some time.. now it's just easier to do and better advertised.
- Nick2632, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1At a glance I saw "Google launches edible map feature" .... --> disappointed
- repete, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You weren't alone...Glad I searched through the comments before I said the same thing...
- ShariV, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I'm anxious to try this! I had absolutely no success trying to embed a Google map using their API key, but this looks downright easy.
- joel8x, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1No joke - I was trying to figure out an easy way around this just this morning. I'm happy now.
- Porbeagle, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Sounds like it could be useful!
- quickfix98, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Hmmm...now we can embed all those fun Google Street Views! http://streetviewgallery.corank.com
- CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I'm probably confused about what this actually is, but hasn't this been available for a while? example: http://www.extremearizona.com/directions.php
- lookadeez, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2in other news- Yahoo has added space to your email account.
- WellDigga, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1very handy for bank robbers who blog... "share your getaway plans with fellow bank robbers now with google embed maps"
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Did you fail grammar school?
- ronjunky, on 10/10/2007, -12/+0
