- DNAnon, on 05/15/2008, -32/+425What ever happened to "DO NO EVIL"?
- JorealConners, on 05/15/2008, -41/+395Yup. No bias over there at Google.
*Goes off to do some stock selling* - RandomnessUK, on 05/15/2008, -15/+305Do a google search for "Anonymous group" and see who's sponsoring adwords.
This is malicious and is done to abuse Adsense T&Cs - inactive, on 05/15/2008, -24/+230My how quickly Digg turns against Google without knowing any of the story really...
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -16/+196it appears that Scientology have stepped up their actions against anonymous/anti scientology groups
what was it gandhi said, ah yes "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” - anon93752, on 05/15/2008, -99/+279***** GOOGLE!
- zeromancer, on 05/15/2008, -32/+198isn't that the point? digg has become as much a herd of sheep as everyone else in this country. Who's cool this week? Ron Paul! Apple! M$ did something cool today! Wait, now it's Obama's turn! Wait, Ron Paul said something, ***** Obama! Woah. Google helped CoS?!??! ***** GOOGLE!
This is what happens when a website is run by children with no real opinion of their own. And please digg me down to prove my point. - inactive, on 05/15/2008, -20/+140***** thing sucks!
- StealthTomato, on 05/15/2008, -29/+116Holy Yellow Journalism, Batman!
Seriously, Google "murdered" the Adsense account? Google in the "deep pockets of corruption?"
Don't get me wrong, Anon sounds (at least on paper) cool and all, but drop the spin, please. This is not an article, this is either a hit piece or just a miserable case of bias.
I suppose it _is_ the Register, after all -- the internet's version of Fox News.
As far as Google's shutdown of this account? I can't claim to know the whole story, but I'd guess that it's some corporate CYA action. Google simply feels that association with a group of cyberterrorists is bad for business. And yes, sorry, they are cyberterrorists. Doesn't mean I don't agree with them, but the techniques they use are considered illegal. - TheSku, on 05/15/2008, -16/+101Can you imagine how much money the scilons have forked over to google for their huge ad campaign. Google and youtube are putting their allegiances where the money is.
- Anonymous3, on 05/15/2008, -2/+67It turned into "I LOVE NOD".
- jer2eydevil88, on 05/15/2008, -21/+80What happened to the "Do no evil" mantra Google grew famous for? Guess the Scientologists did what no other group could.
- niviche, on 05/15/2008, -5/+61The following article (which failed to go very high on Digg a few days ago) points out how Scientology is allowed to use Google's Youtube channels and Adsense campaigns, even though it violates the webmaster guidelines. Without screaming wolf, it the author of this article is right, Google is being way more tolerant toward scientology than towards its detractors.
The article is at http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2008-05-08-n22.html (and no, I have nothing to do with it). - Frappman, on 05/15/2008, -7/+57Internet badass is badass!
- Plups, on 05/15/2008, -8/+54So, if CoS could block their ads from appearing on enturbulation.org (if they wanted to), just HOW might enturb having an account "financially damage our advertisers in the future"? Oh, that's right, enturbulation's mere EXISTENCE may financially damage Google's current biggest spending advertiser in future, so I guess some weight was thrown around...
- Evi1d33d, on 05/15/2008, -3/+48Go google it.
- MildApplause, on 05/15/2008, -9/+53Maybe the scientologists came by the google offices and said, "Nice place you got here. It'd be a shame if anything happened to it."
- Gryffydd, on 05/15/2008, -2/+46I've been around digg a pretty long time...it hasn't always been this bad. But the way it is now gives me a headache.
- JigoroKano, on 05/15/2008, -4/+45And then click on it to make them pay.
- SomeImagination, on 05/15/2008, -8/+45I'm on Google's side, by terminating Anon's adsense they're not supporting scientology or going against anon. They are simply going by the terms and conditions which they have set, I.E staying 100% neutral which is the best thing they can do. I'm sure Google has no desire to get involved in any of this scientology/anti scientology squabling.
- Anonakitty, on 05/15/2008, -23/+58Scifags think they can play at internets now, hahah well ***** you co$ , that won't stop us.
- felinonymous, on 05/15/2008, -12/+45The mental visual picture of Google stepping on their corporate dick is priceless. I would prefer to not have that image in my mind. Footbullets with a twist?
- TheCommentator, on 05/15/2008, -15/+43Wow, what an extremely unjust comment. Should figure, journalism at its best - theregister.
That's like saying Google disabled an adsense account for a website hosted in an american datacenter. Therefore, Google is anti-america.
Some people have such an over-analytical, schizophrenic bias.
Time to get out of the house. - jeriqo, on 05/15/2008, -4/+32Teenagers love to hate anything popular.
- Plupsyeah, on 05/15/2008, -7/+35Just how "new" are these terms and conditions of Adsense restricting accounts of any site involving "advocacy against any individual, group, or organization"???
- purplehaze420, on 05/15/2008, -4/+29That's kind of creepy actually.... Brainwashing much ?
- Takuro, on 05/15/2008, -2/+26Diggers aren't really independent thinkers. They just think they are. They all happen to follow the same trends in likes/dislikes though, which makes things quite coincidental. I dare say it's almost... cultist... like a certain religious group that Tom Cruise is in...
Rules Diggers live by:
1) Republicans are inherently evil
2) Apple is superior to Microsoft, no matter what either company does
3) Scientology fosters a group of baby killers
Not to mention any of the major shared opinions can change at the drop of a dime if any one belief interferes with another, like in this case, Google and Scientology. Makes you wonder how thought-out and cemented these beliefs really are, or whether they were simply adopted as pop culture. - inactive, on 05/15/2008, -6/+30The majority of the public doesn't give a ***** about Scientology or Anonymous. Go up to almost anyone over the age of 30 (and without a Digg account) and the only thing they know about Scientology is Tom Cruise. Do you think stock prices will plummet thanks to this? That's like saying Google's stock will go up because of the latest Dancing Baby video on YouTube.
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -1/+23The level of intelligence on this thread is lower than /b/chan I swear.
DO NO EVIL was replaced with GENERATE PROFIT FOR PUBLICLY TRADED COMPANY HELD BY SHAREHOLDERS, the day they put up an IPO. - dhVyse, on 05/15/2008, -15/+37Why does this suprise anyone? Google probably got paid very well when they helped china with censoring their web.
- matx, on 05/15/2008, -3/+24Not very anonymous with our user names eh ;)
- vuke69, on 05/15/2008, -3/+26Unfortunately the "line" to be drawn, is awfully fuzzy, in addition to being subject to manipulation by whomever has the most expensive lawyers.
"advocacy against any individual, group, or organization." ~TFA
So a rape survivors website could/should be cut off because they advocate against rapists?
This is a dangerous precedent Google. - MWeather, on 05/15/2008, -1/+21It's only a religion in the US. Most other places it's a cult at best, and a criminal organization at worst.
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -0/+19I second this. 95% of the cost comes when people CLICK, with only a tiny amount based on number of impressions. Click on their ads a few times if you want to cost them $10 or so.
- jriggs420, on 05/15/2008, -9/+29cult = unpopular religion
religion = popular cult - inactive, on 05/15/2008, -8/+27It's not malicious. It's allowed. Search "Hyundai" and you'll get ads from Volkswagon, Ford or Honda. It's not abusing anything. Websites which utilize AdSense on their page are allowed to block certain domains from advertising (only on their page of course). For posting ad's, you put your keywords in when you make the account. I.e. CoS has "anonymous" on one of their keywords, hence you get their YouTube page when you search Anonymous Group. Not against any code, as far as I know. (Been with adsense for awhile now)
- beatleman, on 05/15/2008, -6/+22Agreed. I'm sure saying that Google "killed" and "murdered" the account gets them a few more hits (and a few more people to agree with them) than just saying Google "closed" the account. Even when they talk about YouTube they say it "destroyed" a video channel.
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -3/+18Calling a cult a religion was your first mistake...
- doshindude, on 05/15/2008, -16/+31NO! scientology got google too!
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -5/+21Yes, I'm positive they will totally give a ***** about you not using their search engine anymore. They'll definitely cave in soon.
- toshibu, on 05/15/2008, -4/+21It doesn't take much to kill an AdSense account. A random person visiting your site who clicks multiple times on the same ad will do the trick.
- aceslick911, on 05/15/2008, -5/+22yeah a religion. cults are kinda different..
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -3/+18Yeah google sucks, I racked up about $4,000 in adsense revenue my first month using adsense. When it came time for them to pay up they claimed I had manipulated the stats via click fraud. I asked for proof of the click fraud to be sure I had not been a victim of "click bombing" and they refused to provide proof. Here is another big turn off: try calling google for any over the phone support with adsense and it doesn't exist. Multi-billion dollar company and no phone support? There are MUCH better PPC companies out there.
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -3/+20Anyone know a good google alternative?
- inactive, on 05/15/2008, -2/+16Well, believe it or not, Digg and "Anonymous" represent a tiny, tiny portion of the internet. Furthermore, the ones who would even consider boycotting Google represent a tiny portion of that original tiny, tiny portion. Basically, if it was some massive boycott Google may have interest but a few people on Digg saying they're going to stop using Google is going to accomplish approximately jack *****.
- Narcism, on 05/15/2008, -0/+14Thats' what they all say.
- thedogfatherx, on 05/15/2008, -8/+21nope
- kargur, on 05/15/2008, -4/+16funny how you are the first rational commenter, and are being dugg down. Yet those same diggers are complaining of Google "bias". Hypocrisy much?
- supermanred, on 05/15/2008, -6/+18When it's at the cost of human suffering, yes it is.
Scientology is a cult that preys on people and brings suffering to them and their families. -

What is Digg?
