- devoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Now if only digg would support the "new & improved" Blogger
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Whoa. That's the fastest drop of "Beta" in Google's history!
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I had to read that title about 4 times. I kept seeing, "Google drops tea bag from Blogger"
i couldn't figure out why google was tea bagging its bloggers - savaria, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10now if they would only do that to their mail and i.m. services
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Does anyone really take the "Beta" in Google-anything seriously? Their beta products are more stable than a lot of other companies' RTM products.
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5shh, stop yelling so much
- raynar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6because gmail has been "beta" for awhile, with no major changes.
- akira117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yea thats the only reason why I care about this story.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Stupid countdown "jokes" were lame 1... 2... 3... 4... years ago.
- joehobbes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's about time, but I can't seem to figure out how to add labels.
I see this post:
http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=44498&topic=10275
But I don't have the options pictured on my existing blog - mskadu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I am one of the ones still left out. I still dont have that link to move to the new blogger :(
- mastastealth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The new Blogger is pretty cool. The tags are awesome, and help a lot with my webcomic. The instant publishing is also nice. Only thing is, when I edit the page layout, their new editor doesn't seem to display properly in Firefox...but you can always edit the HTML directly. Overall, I like it.
- Haohmaru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@m3mn0n
Which makes your comment all the more ironic. - ggriffit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Still can't blog from digg!! Common guys!
- owensbofe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2re: "because gmail has been "beta" for awhile, with no major changes." You must not use gmail! http://mail.google.com/mail/help/about_whatsnew.html
- paulmdx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I use about a dozen Blogger blogs tied together with my own hosting with a customised template. It's convenient for content management and integrates well with Google Ads. It also means if I have server issues (as I did recently) all my content is backed up for me and is very easy to republish.
- Mocib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's time for the RC tag!
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If there's one thing Blogger does great it's hosting content. Their web servers are rock solid.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No, I can't move mine either.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, to be fair, this was actually a beta that was seprate from the rest of the site, and I believe the usage in this case was appropriate.
- mercurysquad, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4So the whole front page of Blogger changes saying "new Blogger", the beta.blogger.com domain redirects to www.blogger.com, the word "beta" is shown crossed out in red, and the top banner says We're out of beta.
All of this and you say the switch was quiet and not easily noticed?? - johnie1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4it's free
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Nice, easy to use, attractive, easy to host on your own domain
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Blogger really stinks. I used it for about a year but couldn't stand the crappy WYSIWYG editor, horrible HTML code, buggy spell checker that erases text at random (this has been fixed now), and the sudden incompatibility with every third party blogging tool like the excellent Microsoft Live Writer or the Performancing extension for Firefox.
If you'd like to see an example of the ridiculous HTML code Blogger generates (and my whining about how long it took to manually transfer all my posts to my new engine) check out http://blog.demodulated.com/2006/11/29/demodulated-routed/ - Erealz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2well thats nice and everything but what about digg letting me post to my blogger account that would be very nice.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Send in a bug report and stop being so sensational. Make sure to tell technorati also because it sounds like a problem on their end, not google's.
- dave1021, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1artris.blogspot.com, one of the most popular political blogs on the web, has been in "migration" for nearly 18 hours now. If you check out the Blogger "Buzz" page, you'll see the dropping of "beta" didn't coincide with fixing any of the bugs that have been present since the beginning of the beta cycle. Blogger's response is basically "***** you."
Anyone who thinks Google knows what the hell they're doing has never dealt with Blogger. Yes, it's free, but the "it's free, so don't complain that it's a piece of *****" argument gets a little tired. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Silly joke with Windows Vista in 5... 4... 3...
- PSPon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1aren't they both the same thing? LOL
- konno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Still wishing Digg would fix the Blogger log in problem. I just want to blog please.
- GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Live coverage" on the Internet?! You're funny.
- m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2is that some new fancy buzz word I don't know yet? Damn that post sounds all cutting edge and in the know... and it makes me feel so out of the loop.
You are just so cool, man. - kwanbis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5because gmail is working bad as "beta"? right.
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh - I thought it meant "tags" .... like the ones on each individual post.
Yeah nevermind. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool! Only 1,237 products and services to go! :-P
- galador, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When will people learn that we don't give a ***** if the story that made the front page is a dupe? If both of them make the front page, then maybe you can complain, but if someone else made the front page, and you didn't, just don't complain. You story wasn't as good as the other, apparently.
- CIAProductions, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Its just a plan for google to take over the world... nothing big.
- baxtermaddux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ITS FREE!
- Pxtl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Splog = spam blog.
- Pxtl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How much has Google actually done with Blogger since they bought it? To me, Blogger is like Hotmail or Microsoft antispyware - they purchased it and rebranded it as one of their products, then proceeded to sit on it for years before they figured out what to do with it.
- raynar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"re: "because gmail has been "beta" for awhile, with no major changes." You must not use gmail!"
Yippee..they made a few cosmetic changes. Nothing to keep it in beta state. - w3stfa11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doesn't work with the majority of Blogger tools out there. :(
- theartistspeaks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah, it would be cool if I could blog a digg.
- ZernanToledo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Whoa, this is big news alright.
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Tags are not as good as categories which is what I, for one, had been waiting for.
- Pxtl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Great. Next can they drop the splogs from blogger? I recently made the mistake of closing down my old Blogger site since I switched to LiveJournal... and within hours it was replaced with a splog. This wouldn't be bad except for the irritating fact that the splog is higher Google ranked than my LJ blog. Which, I supposed, doesn't really matter - but it severely irritates me personally. And yes, I've tried reporting the splog to Google
- baxtermaddux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0it is a cover in case any of their services crap out. until they are certain they have worked the major bugs out. i suppose they just like to maintain the highest quality, and dont want any so-so services representing their ability.
- nicnic77, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1This is newsworthy? Slow day...
- stephdau, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1This is "old" news guys, and a duplicate: http://digg.com/tech_news/The_New_Blogger_is_Coming_Out_of_Beta_Right_Now
I had "live coverage" of the whole thing as it was happening. ;)
And for Digglers (Digger/Blogger), see http://digg.com/programming/Integrating_the_Real_Digg_Button_in_your_Blogger_Beta_Posts - KnightMareInc, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2stop the presses!
