- dylanbathurst, on 10/10/2007, -2/+56Google will collect everything someone puts in jaiku, and send them relevant adds right in their desktop client and the jaiku site. Google knows me better than I know myself.
- Humptydank, on 10/10/2007, -1/+35She made your sandwiches for school, she kissed your boo-boos and made them go away, and she's been there for you since the moment you were born. That's why Google is excited to announce that we have acquired your mother. For now, you can interact with her as you normally would (although we do recommend calling slightly more often), but over the next year we're looking forward to helping drive the next round of development of your mom.
Also, stay tuned, we'll have one more acquisition to announce right after the baseball season is over. - alex7575, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Rich,
An article that talks about an aquisition by Google gone wrong, and an article about a new aquisition also by Google on the front page at the same time :) - jragon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18Crap. Now my little app (done before twitter or jaiku) is even more doomed than it was yesterday.
- a3r0, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17I can't even tell what "Jaiku" does. What a wonderfully descriptive name.
- PRlME, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17acquires who?
- nullx42, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12You know theres a reply button under him right? Just throwing that out there.
- walkable, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Call me crazy, but I can do this already with Facebook. I use Facebook mobile on my smartphone and can both edit and see my other friends' status. There are way more people on Facebook.
- Nantel, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12I concur wholeheartedly. Simplicity is always better.
- compaqdrew, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10From the way Digg cut off the URL it totally looked like "Google Acquires Microsoft" and I was like WTF
- darkNiGHTS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Maybe now, but we'll see what google does with this.
- sjalloul, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13@buyvalve: Twitter looks like it will go to Microsoft!
- Kratos76, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8from wiki: "Jaiku.com is a social networking and micro-blogging service comparable to Twitter..." SMS, etc...social networking...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaiku - mrminty, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Am I the only one who doesn't use any of these social networking services just because they sound really really annoying?
- hmunkey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Jaiku is better than Twitter imho. Now I expect Jaiku to get a lot of traffic, and maybe overtake Twitter!
- ross., on 10/10/2007, -1/+8No, Jaiku. It actually been around longer than twitter.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Twitter clone.
- buyvalve, on 10/10/2007, -6/+11Twitter?
- childprey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yea, I wonder when they'll release something like a mail client.
- ChromaVita, on 10/13/2007, -0/+5If we're going by program names alone, then i think Internet Explorer is finally the best at something.
- bpapa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Did Leo ever have a good reason for using Jaiku aside from the fact that Twitter was similar to the "TWiT" name?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+11Ok...thanks for letting us know how pathetic you are, casey
- Clintus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Twitter does exactly what it's suppose to. It's simple and I fraking love it!
- JoeDiggsIt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Google should acquire Rhode Island....
- JARSInc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Well, I can't tell what "Google" does just by its name...
- imbob, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5ummmm sure google....
- childprey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Yea, I wonder when they'll release something like a mail client.

- RonAcierno, on 02/07/2008, -1/+3Comment on peoples status updates
Being able to set up RSS feeds to all of your sites
Actual phone app that will set your status as busy if you are taking a call, and will update your location by wich cell tower you are connected to - caseymckinnon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Nope.
- RonAcierno, on 02/07/2008, -1/+3 I feel that Jaiku is far superior to Twitter. I have accounts on both services and while Twitter is definitely more basic and simple, that doesn't mean Jaiku is necessarily complicated. It offers so many more features for users to use, but its not like they PUSH them all on you. Being able to add RSS feeds from your favorite sites(Flickr , Del.icio.us , your blog, or any other website) is great and simple to use, you just copy past the site into the box and it will search for the feeds on the site. Also being able to comment on peoples comments make it much more organized and less cluttered then Twitter. Then theres other things like Jaiku setting your status as "busy" if you in the middle of a call and you have it installed on your phone and the service being able to pin point your location by giving the location of the cell tower you are connected to are very cool features.
I think that Google can really take advantage of this incredible service if they do a good job at incorporating it into there mobile OS. I honestly think that they can create a "mobile" social networking application out of it. As much as I hate the whole "web X.0" stuff ... I think the next move in web development will be internet apps (Web 2.0) on mobile devices that are connected to the internet(and that doesn't necessarily mean cell phones). - hockeysmurf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2How much is this deal worth?
- Dhalgren, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Wasn't this just on the front page 2 hours ago?
- caseymckinnon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Jaiku has actually restricted registration to be invite only so that they don't scale immediately.
- RobotBuddha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think they're doing a pretty good job with that. What I wish is that they'd hurry up with the integration of all their services. It's happening, but at a really odd rate. I suspect a lot of it's just being tossed into their pet project time instead of an official goal.
- tutivlahos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2ONE HUNDRED BILLONNNN DOLLARSSSS!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2in other news, a hamster had a *****.
I care that the hamster had a ***** more btw. - BHSPitMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Just like Orkut overtook Facebook!
- ryanwarnersteel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Buried for the "on the go" reference. Oh man, you're SO ***** cool! Damn you don't have time for ***** you're too busy smelling your own!
- m00nmaster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Because Twitter is any more descriptive. Tell me what "Excel" means to you. Some software just has a stupid ass name. It could be awesome software anyway though, look at Adium.
- gmprunner, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Twitter is more descriptive than Jaiku in my opinion, because at least a "twitter" is a form of communication through sound...
- GhostFreeman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Google, we gotta talk. Its not that you're buying out all these killer web apps and violating my rights in the process, its just that you aren't deploying the newer versions fast enough. I mean come on, Jotspot hasn't been updated in over a year!
- deadbaby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Seems like a stupid move. They could have thrown together their own micro-blog app in about a week. I can understand buying a company to get users (youtube for example) but the whole micro-blog thing is so new that none of these sites really has much of a loyal following. The idiots I know who "micro-blog" have all switched sites half a dozen times. (and I still refuse to read them because they're garbage devoid of any real content)
- srg13, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2How is it pathetic to not want to support a convicted abusive monopolist?
- hawk_eye, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Does anyone other than Leo Laporte use Jaiku ?
- st3vo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://www.jaiku.com/invite/request for beta invites.
- BHSPitMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details? ...
Looks like it's the 8th most visited web site, although Jaiku is doing pretty well for itself in the 10,000 range. - ChromaVita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's still in Beta
