Robin - dominantcorked9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13This reporter obviously has not seen the Leroy Jenkins video on goolge video,

or the infamous Juggernaut!

I don't think Google needs to imitate YouTube, when we already have dozens of such sites. Google should stick to hosting hi-res, quality videos, suitable for full-screen viewing. - johnsto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7That 'review' basically comes down to this: "Google Video is not YouTube, hence it's rubbish."
...odd, because that's exactly why I think Google Video is ace. - Archon810, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The fact that Video replaced Froogle on the search pages doesn't say much about Video, but it does indicate that Froogle wasn't such a profit maker for Google at all.
- def1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Oh my god, dude. Leroy's awesome.
- razei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That could be fixed with a simple greasemonkey script.
- truebullfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wish Google Video would add a favorites button so i can watch videos later. It seems labeling them does nothing. If you have a Youtube account it lets you save them for later watching
- author20, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3When they launched, I sent the same question to their support group via email. I asked them two simple questions:
1. do I need to upload embedded?....
2. any online examples we can download?...
They never answered me. I couldn't believe it. They would never even address my questions.
Google Video support group kept telling me to "read the directions" but the directions are flawed and did not have an example. It was as if they had not used the technology themselves.
When I pressed them for an example, they sent back non-embedded examples and they never let me know if google video-equipped HTML pages had to be uploaded to a server (I later discovered that that is the only way it worked for me). What type of company would spend millions on a project and not provide a single example of an embedded HTML file?
To make a long story short -- they launched a very good service that has poor documentation and virtually no examples of embedded -- who wants to put the who google video page on their site?.
It is as if Google hired people who completely failed, and did not make corrections. If I were in charge, I would train the techs on the area they are supporting and provide both good documentation and examples. Google Video could have make a lot of revenue, but it is now a joke, harming an otherwise strong brand. I do believe it will seriously erode the Google brand if it is not fixed. I could fix it in 5 minutes> fire 100% of their incompetent management. Then put better directions on the site, and a few examples. I would then make the videos work from the desktop (doesn't on mine -- perhaps I need to configure something..?).
I think Yahoo is also jadded.
Yahoo's payment system was assigned to an individual fresh out of college, who was not familiar with PayPal, and who could not articulate their objectives. Yahoo soon abandoned their payment system.
Perhaps Google wasn't really seroius about Google Video. Perhaps their objectives were only to "compete with YouTube.com" without considering the venture's long term objectives.
Why is it that the Google Board of Directors have been silent on such a colossal failure? Imagine, a billion dollar cash cow being handled like a last-minute high school science project. I wonder if thousands of users complained, would it make a difference? Are billionaires that dense? I mean, is Google so jadded that they watch another start-up develop a new technology and succeed -- but they don't really put enough effort or attention to at least compete? Google Video is a joke and I believe it has damaged the Google brand significantly. - WorldGroove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm literally in tears here.... I cannot breathe.... Leeroooooooooooooooy JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJeeeeenkinsssssssssss!
- IQ70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Google cannot be expected to be the jack-of-all-trades. There are many websites that do things better and they should be supported.
- Dawson1066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's only a contradiction if you conveniently omit words from the article. Well done, genius.
- CodePupil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1razei: sure could be but why can't I just added to my custom google page I can play pacman for $YourDeity's sakes
- spyres, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If one downloads the video, normally much great quality can be had.
Youtube still doesn't offer and official way to download their clips. - CodePupil, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'm just mad that I have to use some ajax popup to get to groups. god do I miss deja news

"The Good: An endless flow of viral videos..."
"The Bad: Poor selection of videos..."
seems sort of like a contradiction - origon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Google Video is great for embedding, but the quality could be a bit better.
And hand picked content always wins. :)
