- rCXer, on 03/11/2009, -1/+50People still use yahoo?
:-) - Joest23, on 03/12/2009, -0/+44As much as I LOVE Google for EVERYTHING they've done/do/will do, I don't want these companies to fail. Competition is good (Even if it /really/ isn't competition, at this point).
- angrykeyboarder, on 03/12/2009, -1/+44You mean to tell me there are search engines other than Google? :)
- Vulphaestion, on 03/12/2009, -1/+23Anyone else surprised Google only has 72%?
- fr0mundacheese, on 03/12/2009, -1/+18I just searched on LYCOS and couldn't find anything about it.
- LokitheComplex, on 03/12/2009, -1/+17One day we will regret the Google monopoly.
- angusm, on 03/12/2009, -0/+15The fun consequence of this is that if you have a website and Google decides to stop including you in its index for any reason, you may as well pack up and go home. To most intents and purposes, your site just ceased to exist (unless you have a _lot_ of other sites referring to you, or brand recognition that just won't quit).
Monoculture is a bitch. - michaelpinto, on 03/11/2009, -2/+13Maybe not Yahoo! but Flickr still rocks...
- waydee, on 03/12/2009, -0/+11It's altavista or nothing for me, whats this google nonsense?
- LowRentDiggs, on 03/12/2009, -1/+11Yeah I really don't understand why consumers area always cheering for 1 product to dominate the market. It makes no sense.
- ninjafantastic, on 03/12/2009, -2/+12it's all about webcrawler.
- Calamier, on 03/12/2009, -1/+10Damn...I thought yahoo died back in the 1930's with Lycos
- GramarNazi, on 03/12/2009, -3/+12I can't believe it's only 72%. Why would anyone use anything OTHER than google?
- dsmx, on 03/12/2009, -1/+8Why is this news? You get more and better results on google, sure a lot of other websites are nicer to look at but google gets the job done better.
- cosmiccarl, on 03/12/2009, -3/+10Jerry Yang now can kick himself for not taking $33/share.
- angrykeyboarder, on 03/12/2009, -0/+6I do on occasion. They've also added some neat features in the past year.
But the bottom line is, I get much better search results with Google. - videodroner, on 03/12/2009, -0/+5Exactly, and when there's actually one company (i.e. Comcast), they bitch and moan.
Some people just need something to complain about to get through the day. - EMGroup, on 03/12/2009, -0/+5All Google need to do is dominate Japan (Yahoo! is the dominate SE form them) and they should be set.
- Galphanore, on 03/12/2009, -1/+6That's the definition of misplaced loyalty right there.
- dfross, on 03/12/2009, -2/+7Sounds cuil to me
- inactive, on 03/11/2009, -11/+15Google, I love you.
- marksism, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4Hello 1998, how have you been?!
- rakeshishere, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4Yes, I used it once when Google went down
- computershack, on 03/12/2009, -0/+4Maybe because they don't want their search request and originating IP address storing for 2 years?
- darkmagician777, on 03/12/2009, -1/+4I use to use yahoo - after enough porn and I have won the lottery messages - I trashed all yahoo services and messenger (and I don't do yahoo music even though they crashed musicmatch software). At least with Google talk there is way less spam. Yahoo search is nothing but paid for. Google seems to give people more of what they are looking for and less of what you think we need.
As for the browser Google Chrome seems to have a pause when loading that firefox does not have. Still I think the best one is Firefox with the addon - Adblock - deepleet, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3Cuil?
- DirtyVicar, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3People may love Google, but when their website inexplicably "disappears" off the search engines due to some technical glitch or a false association with a linkfarm, they're more likely to be up a creek if there's only one big search engine in the game.
Competition = good - farfromsubtl, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3Did you try DogPile?
- inactive, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2I see what you did there!
- GMH24, on 03/12/2009, -3/+5As much as I like google, one company completely dominating any market is bad news for everybody. Google is the new Microsoft.
- computershack, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Ixquick. None of the privacy and data retention worries of Google.
- rusty123jimi, on 03/12/2009, -1/+3What ever happened to "Dogpile"?
- DearInternets, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Probably not a lot of Nascar fans here but ask.com has poured a significant amount of money into advertising with Nascar and becoming the "official" search engine of Nascar, etc, etc. They even have their own sponsored car this year. How on earth are they affording that?!?
- jasdf, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Webcrawler is the first search engine I ever used. It was back in like 1996 or something like that.
- jasdf, on 03/12/2009, -2/+4Live's image search is pretty good.
- chrisfry, on 03/12/2009, -1/+2Hitwise is being a little kind to Yahoo. The sites we track are seeing about 85% for Google, 12% Yahoo and 1% MSN. Nice job Microsoft!?
And a retro search shout out to Altavista. - Xazos, on 03/14/2009, -0/+1Monopoly, rewritten to Googopoly.
- seobro, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1Deadsearch will soon be, well, DEAD!
- MemoryDump, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1too bad Google didn't purchase Flickr
- rcollamore, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1it's all about Wolfram - The next "big thing" in search
http://www.wolframalpha.com/ - Atario, on 03/14/2009, -0/+1Yahoo image search sometimes gets better results than Google's.
- Inflammo, on 03/12/2009, -1/+2Maybe because Yahoo & MSN have an inferior service
- enantiodromia, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1searching using someones else's search engines is and was lame.
- enantiodromia, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1once the economy turns around and Sand Hill starts raining money down on Silicon Valley, there will be 300 start ups looking to tackle Google at search, the same as Google went after Yahoo! and MSN.
- findhostcoupons, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1No doubts that Google is the most popular search engine today!
- wakeupsticky, on 03/12/2009, -1/+2And David Hasselhoff is still #1 in Germany.
- EMGroup, on 03/12/2009, -2/+3Yahoo! is actually #1 in Japan
- bizchris, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1I actually disagree. Google Picasa is at least twice as good as Flickr in my opinion.
- DirtyVicar, on 03/12/2009, -0/+1Crap, a dangling modifier. I meant when a PERSON'S website disappears (not Google's).
- rakeshishere, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1Hope we dont
