- Khast, on 10/11/2008, -0/+9Well, I think Google is going to stay as a #1 search engine. I've actually heard people say "just Google it" It has become a word basically meaning to search online. That is going to be pretty hard to top until something truly does come by, which can put a dent in Google's marketshare.
IF you don't believe me, go Yahoo it, or go MSN it....naw...doesn't sound right. - ichsie2036, on 10/10/2008, -5/+14Need For Microsoft 3.0
- justinlarsen, on 10/11/2008, -0/+5I can't help but think of the soda corporations when i read this article. Google is the Coke while Yahoo is the Pepsi. A perfect formula is timeless, but similar and alternatives will rise and fall in the process.
- gdrawlinson, on 10/11/2008, -1/+6I tried Cuil.... WORST search engine ever!
- Iglio, on 10/11/2008, -0/+4Bottom line, No one will ever say "yahoo/ask it," "Google it" will reign supreme
- Shaggy3, on 10/11/2008, -0/+4First thoughts were an Onion article about Google distributing its own currency.
- philbutler, on 10/10/2008, -4/+7Well, a year ago I would have bet on hakia, but as you made so evident Google is a tall hill for more reasons that relevance. Blah, blah blah! Hey, maybe someone will come out with a search engine with super powers! Maybe we should do a list of the super powers we want our search to perform?
Always,
Phil - twomadgeeks, on 10/11/2008, -0/+3GRS-ONE Google Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -1/+3This article reminded me of Cuil which I tried to use a while ago but forgot about after a few days. I wonder if anybody actually uses it.
- Nikonian, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2Damn, I thought that was a Google "pill" when I first saw it on my Digg Gadget..
- GrandBreton, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2I've known a few good ones.
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2Cmon Microsoft I want my 10MB Hotmail mailbox limits back
- gazgolter, on 10/10/2008, -3/+5Google rules the world!
- staeiou, on 10/11/2008, -1/+3Article really said nothing. If Google was all about a really good search/indexing algorithm, they'd be killed by some better search engine by now. Google reigns supreme because they realized long ago that search engines aren't all there are to the web. They've moved from a search engine company to an Internet advertising company that just develops more and more great and free platforms (e-mail, homepage, chat, RSS reader, maps, web applications, desktop search, mobile phones, etc.) to advertise on. They also take all that data from all those free services and feed it back into all their advertising - brilliant.
- bbqsalad, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2I love the goog
- zonian05, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2I really do not think there will be some random search engine to come along some day and out do Google's complex algorithms. Google has prided itself on becoming this influential in the Internet based world and I think it is do to their desire to please the masses. They want people to find things when they need them and they are good at relationships with the businesses that pop to the top of searches. They work both sides of the equation very well and it is going to be hard to beat.
- rnichilo, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2Google got dat knowledge
- KingGorilla, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2Give me the coin!
- iritegood, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2Google has a captcha for search? Odd...
Also: Cuil sucks. Not so much the interface, but the results. - MommaLu, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Are you referring to the company Google or the AI named Google. Cause the AI named Google is way evil. :)
- mcrules, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1Well you nearly got the phrase right...
Power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts, absolutely.
Sounds more like my favourite software monopoly than my favourite search engine provider! - afrothunderman, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1People can use Yahoo! for its other services and Google for search.
- Charklii, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1Experimenting with different methods of search (social based, whatever) is all good and interesting - I'm always up to try things there and give new products/ideas a go. The reality is though, I use Google because it gives me what I want. And I've used it enough to know all the search operators and so I can make it even more so give me exactly what I want. Maybe I'm just a creature of habit? Maybe Google is just the best. That's why they dominate.
- psykiv, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1I used google to find the website for cuil.
- habenneas, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1Yahoo's got more 'stuff to do' on their network like games, sports, chats, and has had for a long time. Plus, it's simple to use and a lot of the older users simply won't switch to google till they catch up in those areas.
- sockpuppets, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1uh you're aware that yahoo was powered by google for a long time, right?
- therightclique, on 10/11/2008, -1/+2I don't really understand this. Yahoo has consistently had more users than google for years. How is Google the #1 search engine?
- xptoast, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1Google should make their own currency. I imagine a ton of us geeks would use it. That would be sweet.
- xptoast, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1I would probably get in on that.
- Obelia, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1I try to use Yahoo, Live and Ask more often, just to get some perspective. Even Dmoz. I don't want one company to have so much control over which websites I can discover online.
- elfprince13, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1don't be evil!
- warsongs7, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1@viper0001
note to self: next time put sarcasm tag as no no one on digg can actually deduct from my facial expressions that i am being sarcastic.
note to self: next time use capital letters - skippyrandom, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1y u gotta b hatin?
- VenDrake, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1Why is everyone signing their post?
-VD - oveedrx, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1ill stick with lycos
- Wojek, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1google will get knocked off the hill, not now, not 5 years from now, but one day. Just as others before it.
- LocalDocal, on 10/11/2008, -0/+0Yeah, Google recently implemented a search CAPTCHA (I think it's been a year?): http://news.softpedia.com/news/Security-Verificati ...
I managed to trigger it using a search phrase I've literally used dozens of times before. Since discovering it, I triggered the CAPTCHA about two more times. ***** ridiculous.
Concerning Cuil, yes, the search results is not very good right now, but I expect it to improve. Besides, I like Cuil's search results better than I like Yahoo's results. - Crana, on 10/11/2008, -1/+1That's ***** because Pepsi > Coke
- bbliss17, on 10/11/2008, -1/+1so true
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -3/+3Its all about How you use power and current trends. Like Microsoft in its years was leader in softwares so they used it to gain more power and its fair for them.
Now its time of GOOOOGLE, they are using it what they have and will continue using it. Today we call them god of search engines and may be future will call them as evil on search engine market. Just like what we call to Microsoft. - inactive, on 10/11/2008, -1/+1hey thx
-bt - kingmanic, on 10/11/2008, -1/+1http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/000153.html
Personally the 12 sites I run cite Google as their most common referrer and yahoo is #2 after one of our own portals. I have no idea where you get the idea Yahoo has more users. - philbutler, on 10/11/2008, -1/+1Wow, people do love Google! Well, I hate it but use it :) It always sounded like something a baby would utter. Maybe the only engine that will ever beat it will be something called: Poo Poo, Kaa kaa, Mama, Cookie or such?
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -0/+0I'll stick with the yellow pages, and nothing a good old fashion local librarian can't find.
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -0/+0lemme guess you or someone you know works at Cuil? Cuz Cuil freggin sucks balls.
- christopherRB, on 10/11/2008, -1/+1ALA QUASINE!
