- 80hd, on 12/05/2007, -1/+53Nice.
Now All I need is for Google calender to auto sync and that will truly make my day. - Bing11, on 12/05/2007, -0/+21I love when people predict massive price cuts on devices who's sales trends show no signs of slowing. Like my friend, who's been waiting for the "Wii price drop" that's been coming since last spring (per him).
- Rev0lver, on 12/05/2007, -2/+19In the likeness of George Carlin: How can you prelaunch? Launching it before you launch it? It's either launched...or it isn't!
- loneBoat, on 12/05/2007, -0/+17I feel really stupid now - I read the title and thought, "Wow, they wrote a whole new UI for the iPhone? Impressive."
- superkendall, on 12/05/2007, -1/+17Apple doesn't lower prices (well, almost never). Instead what you can expect is the 3G iPhone later this year also at $400 and the old model gone.
- osirislink, on 12/05/2007, -1/+15Get on the plane, get on the plane! ***** you, I'm getting IN the plane!
- NuclearBunny, on 12/05/2007, -1/+14Yet another ***** photograph by techcrunch. techcrunch, send me an iPhone and I'll send you a couple pictures of the UI
- Kragnerac, on 12/05/2007, -9/+22http://www.google.com/m if you want to access it from another device.
- riffola, on 12/05/2007, -0/+13Here's a screenshot I took.
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/7889/googleyi9. ... - IEatHamburgers, on 12/05/2007, -4/+16That was uncalled for. Blame the dumbass comment system that screws up links when edited.
- stukdog, on 12/05/2007, -0/+12These kind of apps are fine as web apps. I think this one, the Amazon interface, and the Facebook iPhone interface are very nice. But, the list of nice web apps is very short. February can't come fast enough.
- inactive, on 12/05/2007, -3/+14They are creating phone software not a network.
- EBFoxbat, on 12/05/2007, -1/+10Google.com/m on a non-iphone is different.
- Misaiato, on 12/05/2007, -0/+8The results of next year's C Block auction will tell...
- dcormier, on 12/05/2007, -1/+9Actually, you don't get the iPhone interface there. At least I don't. It's the regular mobile interface. I only get the iPhone interface there when I actually go there on my iPhone. I was using the new interface last night. It's nice.
- RedS0x, on 12/05/2007, -0/+7No one has said this yet so I'll go ahead--it works on the iPod Touch too.
- Bing11, on 12/05/2007, -0/+6You completely ignored the part where I said that he was predicting the price cut last spring. I was referring to when people make a stupid claim that a device will make a significant price cut "by [insert date here]" when the company can't keep up with demand at the current price.
I really didn't think I was too cryptic about it... - Kythas, on 12/05/2007, -0/+6Hell, yeah. I'd love this, too. Why Apple didn't allow the iPhone calendar to sync via iCal format is beyond me.
- mrsteveman1, on 12/05/2007, -1/+7The software is just the weight behind the threat, their real intention is to influence the market so that people can use Google services on any device or network they want. Right now you have worthless phones, halfass WAP browsers, locked together services etc. As soon as the iPhone came out people started expecting the same level of usability you get on a home computer, on your phone. The same will be true of Googles efforts, people will start expecting to be able to use whatever applications they want on any number of well designed and highly competitive devices.
- 80hd, on 12/05/2007, -2/+8Yeah it's too bad bookmarks are more of a pain in the ass than typing out addresses...
- tnoy, on 12/05/2007, -1/+7They needed features to add with each update. They have to give people a reason to re-lock their phones.
- LeeSoong, on 12/05/2007, -1/+6Google should get a few copies of that new iPhone SDK,
and create software that actually makes the iPhone a useful mini-computer,
not just a multi-media phone. - Gabberwok, on 12/05/2007, -2/+7You just made it a triple post.. but thanks. :-)
- IronJeff, on 12/05/2007, -0/+4If you set your User Agent string to that of the iPhone, you can visit google.com and see the iPhone interface (not the classic mobile interface).
- Atomic1fire, on 12/05/2007, -0/+4Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1A543a Safari/419.3
- Seidoger, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3It's called making live easier. It's also called my-cellphone-doesnt-have-a-15-inch-display.
Less double tap / pinching (in this case) - damndj, on 12/05/2007, -1/+4ME WANT!
- DarkDx, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3I loved that line.
- griz, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2As IronJeff stated that works. I tried that in Safari from the Debug menu. Enable it from the terminal with this command...
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
Restart Safari and then select user agent "Mobil Safari 1.0" - carguy84, on 12/05/2007, -1/+3Heh, this was the first time I've been to google.com on my iPhone. Probably last too as I just use the search box built into the Safari browser.
- cyborg, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2I thought this might have something to do with Android.....Bummer.
- tastethevenom, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Ah, so it's when EDITING links. Goddamnit, digg.
- Atomic1fire, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2as Most websites are optimized for big screens and stuff
Iphone Optimized versions are useful to the iphone people because
1. if you cant use an certain app unless you modify your iphone and apple expects you to use webbased apps
then Iphone Optimized is the way to go
2. like I said Screen Size
it can run the internets just fine but Iphone Optimized is useful becase it can blend with the UI quite well making it easyer for users to use
keep In mind that you could eventually get an firefox mobile hacked on to the iphone so all these rifis (Real Internet For Iphone) can be happy - dl27, on 12/05/2007, -1/+3Doesn't work natively on the touch in Canada. I get sent to www.google.ca/m which is just the mobile version. You have to manually enter www.google.com/m
- xt0ph3r, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2I don't believe so. The UI is not the standard google.com/m.
So, either you A) aren't seeing the same UI, B) have your WinMo phone's browser masquerading as mobile Safari, or C) have discovered that google is sending the new mobile page to WinMo phones too, but not all mobile phones. - sp1r1t, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Google doing something right? They've always been doing things right. Have you seen their stock?
- jmreid, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1***** the future? Doc isn't going to be happy about this...
- PathDaemon, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1I took a few actual screenshots (I can't even believe the ***** of the fakes there — interface from Apple's site with washed out color + screenshot from computer with scrollbars + ***** photo of iPhone). Check it:

http://external.pathdaemon.com/giphone2.png
http://external.pathdaemon.com/giphone3.png - carleethian, on 12/05/2007, -1/+2the wii price will not go down as long as it keeps selling out
- bagelmaster, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1Has he seen google.com?
- Phisolo, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1I'v tried recently Spanning Sync and gSync. Neither are up to speed yet. But when they are... Gadget nirvana. Apple and Google in harmony would make my day.
With Google cal, docs, and an apple with ilife... No Microsoft in my daily life. and everything (except cross company sync) just works.
It has been over a year since office was installed on my mac. - colincornaby, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1The iPhone has already passed Windows Mobile in web market share, Google would have to invest time in something there is less demand for.
- sruffelman, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1Now I can't see my finance information right there on the main page like I used to. There's not even a way to access it through the menu!
- jmreid, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1You know what I haven't had in a long time? Big League Chew.
- ChoiceMad, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1I just noticed that the entire time that I've been reading these comments, I've had that damned music from the eyephone commercials stuck in my head playing over and over. I need to get adblock for tv. heh heh
- Jholder112233, on 12/05/2007, -1/+2Later this year, wow they only have 26 days to go.
- neferiousrich, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1you could get spanning sync.
- dimplemonkey, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1I was expecting a native Blogger webapp for the iPhone and was incredibly disappointed. I was so ready to photoblog... ! Hey Erica Sadun, care to comment?
- RedS0x, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1Hmm...interesting. I just went to google.com and it was fine.
- xt0ph3r, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1Just to clarify... you mean classic non-mobile, or old/classic mobile?
To each their own, but I think this is a great improvement over the older mobile version. -
