Their randomly inviting new people on the main page at certain points and you had a lucky IP, 2. someone invited you and you were already logged in to google so it showed you a link based on the invitation, 3. Google changed their mind. or 4, You BS'd this to get a digg ranking. Whichever it is, its now irrelevant and is being buried as such.

Google is good at doing things like search, but when they have an engineer design something like a community portal or video site they fall on their face.. Orkut isnt that great.

If you are only starting at orkut I recommend:
Filtering out the portuguese content (ALOT) as orkut's user base is predominantly Brazilian and speak it (not spanish,argh!).
Orkut is alot better to view and use and experiment then MYSPACE, FRIENDSTER etc..
now that google has gotten their server problems fixed with orkut, its pretty much as fast as gmail, and as efficient as gmail. ALOT ALOT better then freaking MYSPACE pages loading 5 mb of youtube video, and flashing pink butterflyes, scrolling marquees and all this 13 year-old teeny-bopping just got my ipod + myspace bs.
Im all for customization, but what I see on myspace if freaking horrendous.
Also, a great way to pick up brazilian women that live in the STATES.. coz I used to live there, and ALL ( 100%) of all the brazilian girls in the states have orkut... So just search locally and have a blast tell them your new at orkut LOL!

back when i had an account, the site seemed pretty lame. i'm not in any rush to set up another one. - DrGrrlfriend, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All I ever got on Orkut was lots of Brazilian and Arabic guys sleazing on me with bad come-ons. If you don't speak their languages, it's almost completely useless and there are no good ways to filter out other languages. The included filter does not seem to work for me. The vast majority of Orkut users are in Brazil, which is no fun if you're looking for local friends and people with common interests who you can hang out with.
