Did Firefox crash for anyone else when visiting the original story link? hmm - Beaver6813, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I bet they wouldn't have become half as successful :)
- roleary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This podcast IS NOT the "lost tape". This podcast is some guy talking about the lost tapes. The lost tapes won't be released until 12/11. Even then, they're releasing a little bit at a time.
- -dXs-, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think they were focusing on search due to resources.
After building a super-computer based on multiple linux clusters, engineers will start saying "You know what would be cool to do with all that processing power..."
The search algorithm was pretty solid, and once an engineer has time to be curious you end up with what Google is now. - Salva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks like Google didn't expect to have so many services available in the beginning. They say that they are going to only focus on the search engine and not develop any other services. Which is exactly what they did. Gmail, Googlepages, Google talk and Google Calendar come to mind.
"Basically, we want to stay focused on what we do well, which is getting people to more useful information. We don't want to be building out lots of services, which is what other companies do well, like Yahoo." - cuzican, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It might not be the entire "lost tapes" but the google guys do speak in this podcast.. the play them a little bit into the talk...
- WebProDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's interesting that even back then they had the free massages, cuisine, and the whole "zany" atmosphere thing going for them.
- kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, that is quite the listen. It's amazing to consider that this was only 6 years ago.
- affiliate, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Imagine if they went with the domain name "wetbox" or "backrub", and they became verbs, hahaha.
