- LongShlong, on 09/01/2008, -1/+202Cuil sucks and you know it; proven as fact many weeks ago.
- MattFromSeattle, on 09/02/2008, -2/+177'If we can't be your search engine for the internet, then we will destroy the internet! Muah-hahahahaha!'
- kjcdude, on 09/02/2008, -1/+119Is CUIL crawling Digg right now? The site is slow as hell.
- opensourcer, on 09/02/2008, -0/+110If I search for Cuil on Cuil...will I bring them down?
- inactive, on 09/02/2008, -3/+77very time I see these guys in the news, it’s negative. I thought companies with >$30mil in funding were supposed to get hyped early, then crucified late. These guys have it backwards.
People who use Cuil are fuils - lopla, on 09/02/2008, -0/+691. Much respect to anyone trying to startup a company
2. The name doesn't work -at all- sorry
3. I tried the site out and was confused the entire time -not good- - datagod, on 09/02/2008, -0/+53You said it, LongShlong. If I you have to explain the proper way to pronounce a word, and that word is your domain name, you are doomed!
They Sauwghk, pronunced suck. - oli35, on 09/02/2008, -3/+51Cuil is so not cool
- hark, on 09/02/2008, -1/+44Why dont they just index google? Problem solved.
- sockpuppets, on 09/02/2008, -2/+41Spiders: the silent cuiller.
- Red1Delta, on 09/02/2008, -2/+38So that's why 4chan is down all the time.
- FunkyChicken, on 09/02/2008, -0/+36Thank you! I thought it was just me!! Digg has been hella slow all weekend. What's going on?
- Drexxle, on 09/02/2008, -4/+39This so called robot is so badly coded its not funny. This thing twiceler has succeeded in taking bandwidth from many of the sites running on my server. In comparison to GoogleBot and Yahoo Spider, this bot is rediculously badnwidth hungry. Rather than performing a scan of a page to catalogue its features, twiceler performs a GET on every single file, page that it can find effectively downloading everything on your server. This could be construed as an attack on your intellectual property, theft of paid bendwith and by all means a very big hassle. FIrst step is to block all of the IP's listed on their site. In the last 6 months, this robot has made sites of mine exceed their bandwith limit over and over again. Horribly coded, piss poor technology that is paid for by the hosts of sites becuase of the whole bandwidth issue.
- HonestAbe, on 09/02/2008, -0/+31Protip: Don't publish "____-killer" press releases about your "cool" new product when it's not even close to finished. Everyone will come, laugh, and never pay attention to it even when it is finished.
- IphtashuFitz, on 09/02/2008, -0/+28I used to work in the IT department of a search engine back during the boom of the late 90's. (Not Google, but we eventually got bought by another major search engine). Spiders running amok were a major problem for a while. We eventually got them sorted out but it took some time. One of the big problems is that there are so many variables (every website is different) and the software developers may make assumptions that work fine on one website but totally thrash another. robots.txt is your friend, as long as spiders honor them (and do so properly). I've seen spiders that blindly ignore them and others that were obviously buggy and didn't handle them properly...
- ayeroxor, on 09/02/2008, -0/+25It's about as ***** retarded as its name.
- ZER0JACK, on 09/02/2008, -1/+24Elmo
- Qrange, on 09/02/2008, -0/+17Type "boobs" into CUIL and the first result is for doodboobs.com. Cuil summarizes it as a site for ranking man boobs.
UNFORGIVABLE FAIL - ayeroxor, on 09/02/2008, -2/+19Cartman, stop saying hella!
- S68x, on 09/02/2008, -0/+16Same for me. Timed out about 3 times before the frontpage finally loaded...
- squeee, on 09/02/2008, -1/+17Your search engine is bad and you should feel bad.
- Jordan117, on 09/02/2008, -0/+15I think I know what's going on here.
Cuil CEO Tom Costello must have read this story from the Onion:
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/40076
...and taken it at face value, feeding the instructions to "destroy all information you can't index" to the not-so-bright Twiceler bot in the hopes of matching Google's prowess. Of course, Cuil's bot fails so hard that it cannot index most of the internet (as we all saw when we tested Cuil's capabilities when it launched), and is therefore destroying the internet instead in a fit of blind automatic fury.
It's the only explanation. - Red1Delta, on 09/02/2008, -4/+18kid's site? obviously you haven't been to /b/
- inactive, on 09/02/2008, -0/+14well, I guess pedobear •is• for kids.
- trucex, on 09/02/2008, -0/+14Cuil has some pretty bold claims about the speed and cost of their operation, but even proving to be true, they still can't deliver relevant results in a brilliantly user-friendly format. Three multi-billion dollar companies don't have similar search result pages because they're morons.
Additionally, the name brands poorly. I'm just as unsure how to pronounce it as someone hearing it would be on how to spell it.
I just hit their site again and it actually dropped the connection. Another request went through, but slowly. - Sil369, on 09/02/2008, -0/+14that's cuil
- BlaqReaper, on 09/02/2008, -1/+15No need...it crashed on the day it was released. They have it taken care of for you ;).
- inactive, on 09/02/2008, -2/+16I'm willing to believe that without even checking the facts, because its name is so damned stupid.
- sMMk, on 09/02/2008, -0/+13Just don't type google into google, you can break the Internet, so please don't try it, not even as a joke. Its no laughing matter.
- Thekirby45, on 09/02/2008, -0/+12*Types Porn on Cuil*
Google is still better - kenvsryu, on 09/02/2008, -0/+12tuils
- inactive, on 09/02/2008, -1/+13That's not the way that my site pronounces "sauwghk".
- s0nicfreak, on 09/02/2008, -0/+11kid's site? obviously you went to /b/
- rocket87, on 09/02/2008, -0/+11So their strategy for being "the google killer" is to take all the websites down, so google can't index them. Smart
- Maurik, on 09/02/2008, -0/+11he's just seen a lot of pictures of kids on there. sry that was 12chan
- uthallan, on 09/02/2008, -0/+10Adblock Plus...Apply Directly to the Forehead!
- otros, on 09/02/2008, -0/+10BS, it does, top two results.
- inactive, on 09/02/2008, -2/+12Cuil claims to be the "World's Biggest Search Engine".
http://www.cuil.com/search?q=World%27s+Biggest+Sea ...
Says otherwise. - inactive, on 09/02/2008, -3/+11Last time I checked, "Cuil" doesn't even show up on Cuil. Epic fail.
- jhshukla, on 09/02/2008, -0/+8absence of cuil there does not mean anything. but when you don't see google in anything related to internet search, something is definitely wrong.
- matlock, on 09/02/2008, -0/+8Wow, what a truly awful search engine. The results screen layout stinks and their results were way off on my search. The same phrase on google gave all relevant results on their first page.
Fail. - motters, on 09/01/2008, -24/+31Another Google killer? (yawn)
- DforSpiD, on 09/02/2008, -0/+7***** you cuil... it's happening for me too
- Vorphlack, on 09/02/2008, -0/+7Adblock saved my marriage!
- Vodd9, on 09/02/2008, -0/+74chan is made by poor developpers, that's why. Otherwise, they've got more bandwidth available than many hosting websites.
- br0wersauce, on 09/02/2008, -0/+7The guy from 'The Princess Bride' who always says 'INCONCEIVABLE!' with a lisp.
- inactive, on 09/02/2008, -0/+7Whose voice should I read that as?
- GamerX, on 09/02/2008, -0/+6http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o208/gblesguill ...
- Metasquares, on 09/02/2008, -0/+6Never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
Cuil thought they had something good. They screwed up. That's all. - Elranzer, on 09/02/2008, -0/+5Any way to just block cuil.com? I think it's something we'll all need to do...
