- Razak, on 11/14/2008, -8/+204Actually a Google version of flash could be quite a large deal considering youtube...
- afeitarse, on 11/14/2008, -4/+194Awesome, that's all we need...more add-ons we have to download to view multimedia content.
- darkism, on 11/14/2008, -54/+177Because their Firefox competitor was SUCH a success...

- Incidents, on 11/14/2008, -3/+79Those two men are clearly having cybersex.
- RobotBuddha, on 11/14/2008, -3/+75"’It's cross-platform"
It's two platforms. In this day and age, that's not so impressive. - gungaroo22, on 11/14/2008, -3/+73They never claimed it to be a competitor. It's open source too, they just wanted to toss their hat in with some ideas. Chill out bro.
- BoboTheHobo, on 11/14/2008, -5/+53Overlords, etc.
- Gryfft, on 11/14/2008, -12/+57this comment brought to you from Google Chrome
- slapded, on 11/14/2008, -5/+47is that dude naked? wtf? and why does that other guy look like an 80 year old andy dick?
- oblique63, on 11/14/2008, -1/+38I think Google has a thing for Android... but i don't know, maybe that's just me...
- RobotBuddha, on 11/14/2008, -10/+45It has a bigger market share than firefox did before hitting 1.0.
- ThatsNotPudding, on 11/14/2008, -2/+36Oh, that's just great. Make sure it doesn't run on Linux while you're at it.
- thespace2, on 11/14/2008, -2/+34Flash alternative?!?! It is Flash!!!! Buried as inaccurate link bait.
- antiver, on 11/14/2008, -3/+25Besides competition being healthy and all, maybe it'll kill off Flash and Silverlight so we'll only have to deal with one multimedia plugin. Or better yet, they can all be compatible via standards! Except Silverlight, it would never bother to play along.
- maumac, on 11/14/2008, -2/+23Even less impressive considering that flash already runs on both plus linux.
- porkdanish, on 11/14/2008, -3/+24I can't keep up. Is this evil?
- narduk, on 11/14/2008, -3/+23Buried. Inaccurate because, "[Note: Flash is used along with proprietary code. More as Google clarifies.]"
- fluxion, on 11/14/2008, -0/+20i gladly welcome anyone, including MS/Silverlight/Moonlight/Mono, to steal away sites from using flash. after years and years of *****, proprietary, memory-leaking, cpu-maxing flash-plugins for firefox on linux i've had enough.
- ElBeh, on 11/14/2008, -7/+26Maybe it's because Google linked to Chrome on their homepage? Google.com has the second-highest Alexa rank in the world. Mozilla.com was far from that.
- maumac, on 11/14/2008, -2/+20"By blurring the boundary between Ajax and RIA" - Lost all credibility here.
The guy spits out buzzwords without having a clue on what he's talking about. Ajax is one technique that can be used to build RIAs. It's like saying "blurring the boundary between tableless layout and websites". - cmer, on 11/14/2008, -3/+20More crap to install on my computer. boo.
- JasonCox, on 11/14/2008, -1/+18So you're saying gFlash would only be successful because Google starts forcing it down people's throats? Yeah, sounds about right.
- TheMachine1, on 11/14/2008, -5/+20Cool hopefully they will support 64 bit linux.
- iofthestorm, on 11/14/2008, -2/+16Numbers? I doubt that somehow. Also, Firefox didn't have the biggest search engine on the interwebs backing it pre 1.0. Firefox mainly spread through word of mouth in those days, whereas Chrome has been advertised and hyped by Google.
- azninvasion2000, on 11/14/2008, -3/+16i'm sorry, but this is not a flash competitor. buried, inaccurate.
- Atomic1fire, on 11/14/2008, -0/+12I doubt it, Its just a video chat plugin.
- mitikomon, on 11/14/2008, -1/+13I have a problem with the picture in the article.
- Rikkochet, on 11/14/2008, -0/+11Like VHS and leaded gas cars?
Because this way there's always progress. We call this "another Flash competitor" but the framework may well be powerful enough to outpace Flash entirely in a couple of years. I don't relish yet another stupid plugin, but if this has been designed as flexibly and intelligently as the other things Google produces it might be a quantum leap for streaming video. - leamanc, on 11/14/2008, -1/+11"New" Google overlords? Where have you been? They've been owning us for a while now!
- stoanhart, on 11/14/2008, -2/+12Why, because Google made it? What does it offer that FF doesn't? A good, standards compliant renderer? FF has it. Fastest JavaScript engine around? FF again. Plugins? Not on Chrome. Linux? Someday.
Chrome is great an all, but I don't see a single reason I should switch, or convince anyone else to switch. It took FF several years to get 20% market share, and they offered a significantly better product than their competitor. Why would Chrome, which offers less features, (or at best nothing new) suddenly take over the web? - tgc1, on 11/14/2008, -0/+10You think it's a chore to download? Think about the designers and developers who have to learn all this *****. I mean i'm no wiz or anything, but I know quite a bit. But what's frustrating is that I haven't even scratched the surface. There is an increasing bloat in terms of technology for the web that is being adopted, and that in turn, developers and designers need to learn. I feel bad for people who have to endure interviews when recruiters are looking for 10 thousand languages and only want to pay you 10 bucks an hour. The ignorant, uninformed ***** that they are.
Anyway... - bratterscain, on 11/14/2008, -0/+9Was? Google just started. Chrome has some potential.
- gburch, on 11/14/2008, -3/+12it uses flash - buried.
- lava, on 11/14/2008, -3/+12FTA: "[Note: Flash is used along with proprietary code. More as Google clarifies]"
I don't think Google thinks it's worth it to compete against Flash. And even if they do so, they would probably stick it in Google Gears. Besides, HTML 5 has support for video, and Google is all about open standards.
They could have done this _without_ making you install anything. Flash can already capture from your webcam. My guess is that their ulterior motive is to collect facial data. - RandyGandy, on 11/14/2008, -0/+8there always hast to be one...
- tomis, on 11/14/2008, -0/+7Plugins are the fail. What we need are open standards supported in all modern browsers.
- poogy21, on 11/14/2008, -0/+7If it's publicly traded, it is..
Oh, wait.. Except for Apple!
** "Forgive me Jobs for I have sinned. It has been 3 weeks since my last purchase... " - inactive, on 11/14/2008, -0/+7Adobe's crappy products? Photoshop is the industry standard for a reason.
- knowmonger, on 11/14/2008, -5/+12Why can't corporates f*cking respect standards ?
- netneutrality, on 11/14/2008, -1/+8They're advertizing Chrome on YouTube pages too. (Not if you already use Firefox though.)
- jjc5004, on 11/14/2008, -3/+10its definitely not perfect, but the simplicity of the lay out, and speed do it for me, and I've never looked back.
- nobeatnokill, on 11/14/2008, -10/+17iPhone is gay
- cleverhandle, on 11/14/2008, -1/+8this is the digg we need more of
- Navicerts, on 11/14/2008, -0/+6Yea! I'm angry because someone made a free open source product as well! Seriously, wtf?
- GavinZac, on 11/14/2008, -0/+6"Balkanise"
Learn to spell the word before trying to sound educated. - lowtolerance, on 11/14/2008, -0/+5doubtful. they haven't even gotten chrome to work in linux yet.
- burrgrinder, on 11/14/2008, -0/+5Adobe has stellar products (Photoshop, Flash and PDFs are standards for a reason). You're sick of people using them poorly (i.e. bad Flash creators).
- stickyman, on 11/14/2008, -0/+5I us it as my main browser. Its great, and will only grow in popularity once they start pushing it with android
- netneutrality, on 11/14/2008, -1/+6I'm rather relieved that the headline was misleading. Sometimes methinks Google tries to grow up too fast.
