< /blink > - energyblue, on 07/26/2008, -0/+3711 billion of them are not searchable without safesearch disabled.
- DeskFlyer, on 07/26/2008, -11/+45That's over nine thousand.
- dcbebop, on 07/26/2008, -2/+30Content summary:
70% porn
17% domain squatter landing pages
10% blog entries
2% disputable/reputable wikipedia content
1% misc - inactive, on 07/26/2008, -1/+20URLs is similar to a map made up of one trillion intersections. So multiple times every day, we do the computational equivalent of fully exploring every intersection of every road in the United States.
- jaxsonk, on 07/26/2008, -0/+14No, he means disabled.
- ikrit2006, on 07/26/2008, -2/+13If you would read the whole article, you would see that the engineers "admit that they don't really know how many unique Web pages there are" and "acknowledge that Web URLs are essentially infinite because dynamic page generation for things like future calendar months means there's always another page to crawl."
cmallinson was right in his comment - bitwiseplatypus, on 07/26/2008, -1/+11The title of this post and the article itself are incorrect. Google is aware of the existence of 1 trillion URLs, but their actual index only contains about 40 billion. There's more info on this at TechCrunch: http://tinyurl.com/5hoslb
- jackdaniels06, on 07/26/2008, -3/+13CONGRATULATIONS GOOGLE for hitting this milestone a few weeks shy of your 10 year anniversary(September 7)!!! The internet is still young and just imagine how huge it will get 5 to 10 years from now. Google is just getting started! Here's to the next 10 years Google!
- 0Xonox0, on 07/26/2008, -2/+12So numerically that would be:
Porn Sites - 700,000,000,000
Domain Squatters - 170,000,000,000
Blogs - 100,000,000,000
Wikipedia - 20,000,000,000
Misc - 10,000,000,000 - Nubli, on 07/26/2008, -2/+10Go take an English class.
- SWATJester, on 07/26/2008, -1/+9But when will they have a Googol of pages?
- obsolite, on 07/26/2008, -3/+9Thanks, domain squatting!
- jackdaniels06, on 07/26/2008, -1/+6The internet is still young and just imagine how huge it will get 5 to 10 years from now. Google is just getting started!
- cmallinson, on 07/25/2008, -18/+23But how much does this really mean, when so many URLs can have an infinite amount of query strings attached to them?
- inactive, on 07/26/2008, -0/+5Please be PC it is called Differently-abled
- drig, on 07/26/2008, -1/+5Incorrect. Google's index is NOT 1 trillion. They are saying there are 1 trillion urls indexable.
From the release:
"We don’t index every one of those trillion pages — many of them are similar to each other, or represent auto-generated content similar to the calendar example that isn’t very useful to searchers." - inactive, on 07/26/2008, -5/+8Google's the *****.
- MooseTaag, on 07/26/2008, -1/+4It wasn't funny the first time.
- mrloci, on 07/26/2008, -1/+4google does my thinking
- aelias, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1I love how the "way it used to be" guy signed up just over a year ago.
If he had signed on when it started, he'd see that's it's pretty much always been like this. - minkusingh, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1what is this, why do straight ppl hate on gays? im tired of this BS.
- Quenlin, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1Maybe if they count the infinite probability articles.
- OutsideSupply, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1wonder how many are blog urls?

- MacBookForMe, on 07/26/2008, -1/+1How many of them are mine?...0.0000000001%

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2f0rFuCNt0 - Donniehoward08, on 07/26/2008, -0/+0I would agree with mallinson, most every web page out there has links to other pages...do these get counted in the Index? And are there even 1trillion web pages out there? With 8billion people total in the world and i would say 6billion users....that would mean each of those users would have to have at least 160 pages each...so yes it is probable...but in my opinion, it is unlikely that there are 1trillion pages out there
- phreakyo, on 07/28/2008, -0/+0Google estimates there are over a trillion sites out there.
Estimates put their index, however, at 40 billion.
http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/07/25/googles-misle ... - expert01, on 07/26/2008, -2/+1Not so much... google has indexed 1 trillion URL's. As in pages. Not websites. And it probably includes images.
- nthitz, on 07/26/2008, -12/+11If you RTFA you would see that this is 1 Trillion unique URLs and they are not including the sort of thing you describe as unique.
- Tim101010, on 07/26/2008, -1/+0that's quite a bit
- Computer_Kid, on 07/26/2008, -2/+1That must be a lot of porn!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=cNARJPNz2CA - expert01, on 07/26/2008, -3/+1Wow... that didn't make any sense at all.
Unless you also believe the internet is a series of tubes invented by Al Gore... then it makes sense. - josepablos, on 07/26/2008, -6/+3google .. http://www.webcrawler.com/ is ALIVEEEEEEEEEEE

- Donniehoward08, on 07/26/2008, -4/+0yes that is true...so many porn pages out there...sickening
- strategynode, on 07/26/2008, -7/+1You'd think with all that information out there that there would be more substance.
- tofslie, on 07/26/2008, -13/+6LOOK AT ME. ME COMMENT. ME NO READ ARTICLE. ME DIGGER.
- speedk0re, on 07/26/2008, -16/+2You people have ***** issues. Take a look at yourself. I have ***** had it with Christianity's influence on the ***** internet. You really think making fun of dead prophets is a ***** joke? do you? BURN IN HELL, *****. Don't tell me where the ***** line is, because if you don't know, you have probably corssed it many times in the past, and will again in the future.
Bringing up memories of dead prophets to a comment thread based on a story about jokers? ***** low. I wish reporting inappropriate content actually did something these days, but in the actuality, it won't change much. The same ***** will always come back, poking at jokes, and relying on the other sick ***** to digg them up.
That's it digg, I'm starting to give up. It is going to take some ***** dynamite samaritans to drag this ***** back up to the good site it used to be. For all you ***** digging these guys up, I seriously question your humanity. This is not the time of the place to make jokes about this kind of material, and you know that. You ***** know it. - minkusingh, on 07/26/2008, -19/+4holy ***** *****...***** me from behind...
- TheCoreh, on 07/26/2008, -25/+4you mean enabled?
