- PatrickFisher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33I think Google should send me a shuffle for using their search engine for the last five years!
- Lucky7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25I'm gonna name my kid Mike and he will beat up and steal lunch money from both Google and Altavista.
- PeTeRZz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20How can you not just love google?
I am going to name my kid Google. - Steaminx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Direct link to site:

- madmac625, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17Oh yea? I've been using them since before I've been using a computer.

DIRECT LINK DAMN IT!! I feel like burying this for that. - kasted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7my kid is gonna be altavista
- Philipp_Lenssen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It was my blog that got dugg above, but I absolutely agree the original source should have been dugg. I can only repeat we ought to consider something like a "nosource" tag. I don't want Google Blogoscoped to be on the frontpage when Google Blogoscoped is not the source of the story -- I want to be on the frontpage when Google Blogoscoped is, or does extensive research for a long article that puts another story in new light (this post was neither). A "nosource" tag (a little more neutral and flexible than "nodigg" or anything) could make it impossible to submit a story to digg... there'd be an alert like "this blog's author claims that someone else has the real source of the story -- please link to that one instead".
Then again, this tag might also add a lot of overhead for bloggers -- it'd be even cooler if most people on Digg check if it's a mere link post (which has its merits on Google Blogoscoped for those regular visitors, but doesn't have a merit in terms of appearing on Digg), and then not digg it. I consider Google Blogoscoped to have enough original research and writing that it creates diggable content, but this post was not it, and for that reason I wish it wasn't on the frontpage. I'm not sure how that can be achieved. - Hardcase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Blogs linked to blogs. How hinky!
- YJ2k2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Guys, learn to use commas.
- emceepecks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3newegg will send you little goodies if you write a testimonial about them. i got some stickers and a shirt from them a few years ago =D
- lcohiomatty86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4millions have ipods.... how many people do u kno that have a ribbon straight from google..
- HHP2K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I feel bad for raining on everyones parade, but I don't commend google for doing this. Apple's been doing the same thing by contacting random people whos lives have been destroyed because their precious mac with a hundred gigs of pictures and music on it was dropped from their 11 story balcony, and miraculously not only sent him a new one, but sent him a new one with his data back on it.
Sure, it's really cool that they do that. But honestly, it's a marketing ploy. And it's a damn genius one at that: give a select few random people very special treatment, and they will sing the companies praises forever more. Then, those praises make it to sites like Digg, where it spreads.
And what does it cost the company? Few hundred bucks? It's genius, really.
But I'm for fair and equal treatment, too. What if I made a blog and ranted on about how my day sucks and my adsense program hasn't been doing too well?
Let's throw in a dead dog, and hey, google might just notice me and send me a bloody 60 GB video iPod.
Why not everyone else? It's selfish. If I got a present from a big company, I'd send it back. - Derelict267, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah newegg is awesome, I ordered a harddrive tray and it got badly damaged on the way here and i called them up and they sent a new one right away express shipping and told me that they'll call back when they want me to send the broken one back. They never called so I got it replaced for free without having to send the faulty one.
- davidarcila, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1at least it wasn't a Zune

http://www.renderous.com - ariven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Last year we got a 64mb USB thumb drive, a mini 4 port USB hub and a mini laptop style optical mouse in a little leatherine case.. was pretty cool especially since my boss gave it to me.. ;)
- tarsier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how much do you have to spend to qualify for a GoogleGift?
- festivalman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Aww... as a site owner who runs google ads, I got a digital picture frame from them this year. I'd rather have the ipod shuffle. :)
- snlildude87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just want an iPod. :(
- JeremyCade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I receive a digital picture frame as well.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Newegg is cool I got a 20$ DVI TO HDMI cable off there and was going to return it cause the cable box I got need a HDMI to HDMI cable instead they emailed me not to return it but they'll credit my account so I sold it on craigslist for 25$
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2lol, we got a digital picture frame... which is good, because all of us have mp3 players anyways and who wants something which doesn't even have a screen?
- m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And google gains off both the advertiser and the ad publisher.
Go Google =P - gharding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you spend a couple million you get invited to their parties. And they throw pretty good parties.
- dohidied, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Jeez, I think everyone's getting a Shuffle for Christmas.
- mcottier, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Actually, if you know how to correctly advertise on Google, you can make a lot of money. Just don't advertise on their content network!
- RonaldLewis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Glad some folks feel the same as myself. This practice pisses me off to no end. It reminds me of when I blogged recently about having almost 16 GB of storage in my GMail inbox -- causing a hurricane of discussion -- and of course you know what happened: "Popular" websites (and "piggybackers") were benefiting from my own damn story. Even more: I submitted the damn thing directly here on digg and was ignored completely. Go figure.
It's senseless that Shimon has to settle for "filtered traffic" when he's the original source. I don't care how well he does as an SEO professional, it's still his blog -- and HIS content. - cwcentral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if the back of the shuffle shows an *upside down* iPod/Apple logo when plugged into the base. I figured for an Apple product they would have taken the careful detail to make sure the iPod logo was upright when on the base. I mean if the logo was lit, being upside down would be funny. I ask this cause we got them as corporate gifts as well, and my logo is upside down (when on the base). Hmmm... defective lot?
- dtietze1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone kow whether Google do this just for their US-based customers/advertisers?
Last time I checked my office mailbox there were no prezzies from Google in it. - helmsb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@skyhighrockets
You can't spell "cant" either. - gharding, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm pretty sure I've drank away the price of a Macbook from all the Google events I've gone to. Search engines are the best. I know Ask and Yahoo will give personalized gifts if you talk to your ad rep enough!
- mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Can I get one for being gracious enough to click their ads on the off chance that some one some where will make some money?
- josho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lose*
- cianuro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3And someone somewhere will loose some.
- slicedoranges, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@ skyhighrockets
Or "yeah". - sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Google sent me a digital picture frame. Haven't had time to check it out but free is good!
- carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I call BS, that's the box the digital picture frame came in this year.
