- sarge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4A "no-frills" Google Airline sounds like it would be cool... i.e. "Google Air (BETA)" as mentioned above...
I can picture the advertising campaign now... A picture of a passenger getting ready to board with the slogan "I'm feeling lucky..." - DiscoLoke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3itjamesd
A Boeing 767 is not a jumbo jet. It is mealy a wide bodied jet. A 747 has the only nickname as a jumbo jet. Does anyone know what type of 767 they have bought ?
Google it. - gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2. This is your captain speaking if you look out over your left shoulder you will notice us dropping a bomb on MS headquarters.
lol lol lol lol lol lol - colline, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This further adds to the growing conclusion that Google is taking over the world. The world community better brace itself!
- ucfbassguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You wouldn't even have to buy a ticket, just drive up to the airport and search for a flight. Swipe your credit card and jet set.
- syuusuke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3as their personal jet? man, why not start their own google airlines instead?

I say this only because I want to be able to call someone a gooraqi.
- solidus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Google Airlines BETA"
- -dXs-, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i doubt the truth of that article.
google just donated a crapload of money to katrina efforts. also, google is about efficiency, buying and maintaining a 767 doesn't seem very efficient to me. - ross., on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is just greed...all hail the next microsoft.
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2and how are they really getin the money for this? NEW NEWS: GOOGLE STARTS GooglePort(*beta)(*=Google is not relible for any crashes during the beta of GooglePort)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually...a MD11 is also considered a jumbo, or more acurately a "heavy".
When communicating with air traffic control those planes identify themselves as "heavy".
Example a pilot would say: "Phoneix, Delta242-Heavy with you. Request approach".
And ATC will say: "Delta242-Heavy, cleared land on runway 25L".
According to the FAA FAR's the technical definition of a Heavy is:
a. Heavy, Aircraft capable of takeoff weights of more than 255,000 pounds
whether or not they are operating at this weight during any particular phase of flight. - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I hope they put "In Beta" like on the tail or somethingz!
- Gl4di4tor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The can buy whatever the hell they want as long as they keep pumping out awesome stuff.
- randylovin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1" Maybe you are thinking of the Airbus A380. "
Yeah and dont count on that. They'll feed Boeing a contract for a new AF1 before Airbus. Even if it is only for a half dozen custom jumbojets. - bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry dude the 777 is ABOUT to get its license for commercial transportation soon, unless you live 15 years ahead of us, which could become useful ;).

lmao Get photoshop! - davecruz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg leaders should get a jumbo jet! I could totally see them shoot a diggnation vidcast on that thing...the mayhem!
- jeffzoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lets see, if i was a billionaire, and charging my personal/business jet to teh company, i would not go for a 767, like a Learjet instead. Faster, lighter, obviously cheaper to run and some even share a name with some apple computers (i.e. g4,g5). would need a 767 for 2 ppl?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hmm i thought that this was old news

Wikipedia 767 info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_767 - spadin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I heard those google guys still go to work on a bike and a pair of rollerblades... What the heck do they need a jet for? I hope they don't let people "borrow" it for renditions. :)
- Groon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1.......Yawn!!
- Taromsn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Guys, do you realize that 2 767 were used on the sep 11 attacks, don't get me wrong on google pulling something like that, seems that the guy that published this is making a really bad joke."
Right, because 767s ever used again is obviously disrespectful to the victims of 9/11. It's not like they're being used daily or that companies have private jets. - a_greer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Better idea - buy Shell or BP and give gas away in exchange for relevent advertising baced on cars:
old clunker - show job classifieds
standard ford/chevy/honda - general interest ads
pick ups - sports
Lexus/Mersadies - show an ad for a luxury ersort or golf course
mini van/SUVs- soccer equipment, happy meals
$100,000+ sportscar - VIAGRA
It could really work - mikea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=767+business+jet&btnG=Google+Search
- garf12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"this oughta be a hoax, or maybe money laundering :), maintaining one of this birds is QUITE expensive, a 737 maybe would be reasonable but a 767?, there was a chance for a 767 to replace air force one but I thing they are gonna set for the 777 once it comes out."
Umm the 777 has been out for 15 years now. Maybe you are thinking of the Airbus A380. - sdenike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oops wrong digg comment... my bad
- kohno214, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If Bill Gates had bought it, I wonder what the comments would be.

???? What decade are you writing from pal the '80s? 777s have been in service for a decade already, though new variants are going into service all the time this, is not a new aircraft by any means. Perhaps you are mistaking it with the latest variant (777-200LR (Longer Range)) or the 787.
From Boeings own 777 site: "The 777 program was launched in October 1990 with an order from United Airlines. In June 1995, United flew its first 777 in revenue service."
http://www.boeing.com/commercial/777family/background.html - JeffHeaton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wonder what kind of jet(jets?) Microsoft has.

"OH CRAP THEY BOUGHT A JET, they must be starting a revolutionary airline for everyone! SEIG HEIL GOOGLE." - marathon851, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...so they bought a plane...and this is a big deal because??
- sdenike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1haha, you have good old execpc. I used to do tech support for them.
