- Ninh, on 02/03/2009, -6/+248Italian government going full retard?
- LiquidSpark, on 02/03/2009, -3/+170Rampant stupidity on the part of the Italian government.
- Ascus, on 02/03/2009, -0/+126Since the Video was shown on a Windows Machine they should have Microsoft Execs in there too. And it used Intel Processors, Intell Execs too. Need to find the monitor manufactures and Speaker manufactures as well.
What a complete clown circus there in Italy. - agentinfinite, on 02/03/2009, -0/+106It's sad that things like this happen, but how can people complain about Google allowing it to happen in the first place? It's just not feasible for Google to monitor and review every single video that's uploaded to their website before it's published. I feel that Google took the necessary actions.
- havek23, on 02/03/2009, -6/+90You never go full retard.
- Cojafoji, on 02/03/2009, -9/+86God damn fascists. ***** Italy.
- Solkre, on 02/03/2009, -1/+75This is why we can't have nice things :(
- Gr00ver, on 02/03/2009, -0/+66So from now on, each and every video submitted will need to be reviewed and approved by the top executives at Google?
- inactive, on 02/03/2009, -2/+47Why would they even bother to show up to the trial? They ought to tell Italy to stuff it. This is, well, retarded.
- fighella, on 02/03/2009, -1/+43Hey careful people, making fun of the retarded Italian government could land you in jail...
- yuanzhoulu, on 02/03/2009, -1/+43They should have prosecuted the executives of the company that built the mobile phone they used instead. Obviously it's their fault for facilitating this.
- bdiggitty, on 02/03/2009, -0/+40What brand of desk was the computer sitting on?
- GoldEdition, on 02/03/2009, -12/+48I can't believe what online videos are used for... Pathetic.
- analogkid01, on 02/03/2009, -3/+37Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump. Slow yes, retarded maybe, braces on his legs...but he charmed the pants off Nixon and won a ping-pong competition? That ain't retarded.
- Biscuitz, on 02/03/2009, -15/+49It's not okay to make fun of anyone, it's called tact.
- directedition, on 02/03/2009, -0/+30What's that precedent? If someone posts "Obama eats babies" that Digg should be liable for slander? If this goes through, the implications go incredible lengths. If you can justify making a video hosting site screen everything that gets posted before going public, you can justify making every public online forum be subject to moderator controlled posting and the legal nature of chatrooms will suddenly become extremely risky.
Also, what does this mean? If I host and run a site in the US, do I have to observe Italian law, British law, Saudi law, etc etc? - billizm, on 02/03/2009, -1/+28inappropriate use of letmegooglethatforyou.com
- breadfred, on 02/03/2009, -1/+27Actually, I disagree. It happened on the street right? And what are the streets made from? I'd sue the hell of the paving companies, myself. Oh, and the sun, for providing the illumination. And the ether, for providing this info to me over a wireless connection.
*****, after all this suing, I am going to be rich! - ryanpw, on 02/03/2009, -0/+25Google should just buy Italy :P
- Llanowar, on 02/03/2009, -1/+25Hmm, attempt to bread. Tasty.
- Pixelante, on 02/03/2009, -0/+23It's OK to make fun of diggers. They're not people anyway.
- CBOOTY, on 02/03/2009, -24/+46How come it's ok to make fun of someone if they're dumb, but if they're *really* dumb (ie. definition of retarded) it's no longer ok?
Same goes for shortness / midgets. Never made sense to me. - bdiggitty, on 02/03/2009, -2/+24Better watch out. Kevin Rose might have to go to court in Italy because Digg hosted this comment defaming the Italian Government.
- nights0223, on 02/03/2009, -0/+22If he was going to BREAD wouldn't he RISE the population?
- Narcism, on 02/03/2009, -4/+26Dustin Hoffman, 'Rain Man,' look retarded, act retarded, not retarded.
- CalcProgrammer1, on 02/03/2009, -0/+21What company made the box that everything was shipped in, who drove the truck that delivered it...for that matter, who mined the metal out of the ground that eventually became the computer!
- synapzgap, on 02/03/2009, -0/+21FTA - "As we have repeatedly made clear, our hearts go out to the victim and his family. We are pleased that as a result of our cooperation the bullies in the video have been identified and punished. We feel that bringing this case to court is totally wrong. It’s akin to prosecuting mail service employees for hate speech letters sent in the post. What’s more, seeking to hold neutral platforms liable for content posted on them is a direct attack on a free, open Internet. We will continue to vigorously defend our employees in this prosecution."
This says it all. The parties responsible have been identified and brought to justice. That should have been the end of the story.
If anyone from Google is convicted over this, I'll be disappointed, not the Google execs, but for the Internet. - Matt420, on 02/03/2009, -4/+20It is not nice to make fun of people with disabilities but is posting a video of it really illegal in some countries?
BTW where can this video be viewed? - breadfred, on 02/03/2009, -2/+17That is incorrect. We are talking fascist, Mafia run Italy.
- inactive, on 02/03/2009, -1/+16Google should block all Italian users from their services including gmail, youtube, and its search functions.
- inactive, on 02/03/2009, -1/+16Johannes Mehserle would not be being prosecuted right now if it hadn't been for BART riders with camera phones.
- samard2002, on 02/03/2009, -5/+20I think camera phones are the worst thing ever invented. So damn sick of everyone capturing every moment and posting it for the world to see, especially their hate and taunting.
You can even look at the big example this week: Michael Phelps and the bong hit. The guy can't even have fun at a party without some douche snapping a photo and feeling like he has the right to ruin him. People used to be so much cooler. Now everyone is in the amateur paparazzi. - directedition, on 02/03/2009, -1/+15Whoa, careful there, who cleared you to post that comment? You could have insulted or offended someone, putting Digg at legal risk for your actions. Just be careful.
- xsecretfiles, on 02/03/2009, -6/+20That's retarded!
- KaiDream, on 02/03/2009, -3/+17Man i really hate to say this but..
Video or it didn't happen.. - Schnelly, on 02/03/2009, -0/+13I'm of the viewpoint that the man who discovered electricity should be prosecuted, clearly, he is the evildoer here.
- Theli, on 02/03/2009, -1/+12Didn't fascism (as a modern concept) pretty much originate in Italy?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Fascist_Part ... - zephc, on 02/03/2009, -0/+10Italy started going downhill after Rome went from republic to empire.
- nowhereelse, on 02/03/2009, -1/+11Dough!
- SmokinOkie, on 02/03/2009, -3/+13I think it's time to put this all to bed. File a lawsuit? What do you think would happen if google refused a connection from any ip address originating from Milan, or better yet, they were forwarded to the new GOOGLE SAFE SITE where there is no objectionable content, just a blank screen?
Go GOOGLE! Stop the madness!
FU**ing waps. - kaelyiesta, on 02/03/2009, -1/+11Neat president. Does that mean I can sue Italy for hosting an offensively retarded government?
- clickmyface, on 02/03/2009, -2/+12making fun of retards is universal.
i'm terrible. - o0joshua0o, on 02/03/2009, -0/+10That's defamation of clowns. The manufacturer of your computer should be sued.
- clickmyface, on 02/03/2009, -2/+12fail
- sagegoku666, on 02/03/2009, -0/+10oh man, thats so brutal
- rharris, on 02/03/2009, -0/+10If they're found guilty, Google should block everyone in Italy from accessing any Google web site. Then we'll see how long it takes for this stupidity to be corrected once the people start rioting.
- urinate, on 02/03/2009, -1/+11There is truth in this, in the sense that people who are mentally ill have little control over certain aspects of themselves (movement, learning capacity) whereas someone who is relatively normal is essentially making a choice, and the wrong one at that, and should be held accountable.
- o0joshua0o, on 02/03/2009, -0/+9If I were Google I would start blocking connections from anything remotely connected to the Italian government. They will wish they hadn't acted so hastily.
- Punkazz189, on 02/03/2009, -0/+9totally thought you said something else at first glance Pixelante
- punchingjudy, on 02/03/2009, -3/+11Because they cannot help their seeming misfortune.
