- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -8/+98I had to Digg just for the title. Can Google erase some other places too like North Korea?
- Pyrogen, on 10/12/2007, -8/+61ChuckIT fails for not realizing that titlesaysitall is not a place, and therefore out of the grasp of Google Maps/Earth.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -10/+42Im sorry Chuck that you have no humor, or social skills.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33They did it to one of my shoes this morning...
- liuite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26it's not Google fault...the Maltese Falcon has deployed the Romulan cloaking technology
- arthurbarnhouse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24To Latka
1. Can't you just take a joke?
2. From the House or Representative Subcommittee on Human rights:
"Persecution and starvation in North Korea have caused many thousands of North Koreans to flee their homeland, primarily into China. Yet, despite China's obligations as a party to the 1951 U.N. Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, and the '67 Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees, China forcibly returns North Koreans seeking asylum to North Korea where they routinely face torture and imprisonment, and sometimes execution."
As soon as the US Kills people for simply leaving the country, has no effort at national education, no Medicaid, no medicare, no welfare state, and no non-state papers and news outlets, then you can talk about the US and North Korea being equals. The US does some screwed up *****, but nowhere near the level that Kim Jong Il is at. - Anth741, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20"Erasing the US would be a good start."
That would erase digg, well as Google.
What a bad idea. - synth7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15http://img480.imageshack.us/img480/8489/malta6di.png
yes, the positioning data is just off. The whole island is, in fact, THERE. - Dosquatch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13@Ramble:
hey, Hey, HEY! Easy there with that eraser, bro. We're mostly good folk here in the US. If you just surgically remove DC I think your opinion of us would improve dramatically. In fact, OUR opinion of us would probably improve as well. - moracity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The fewer the people that know about Malta, the better. Aside from all the crispy burnt chubby middle-aged Brits, it's absolutely beautiful....and the Maltese rabbit dish is fantastic.
The re-enactment of the French invasion and their subsequent defeat by England is priceless. And the buses, can't forget the buses! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The new update to google maps erased my house.. they recently added better quality sat images of my city but for some reason there is a grey square where my block used to be.. would be nice if they could find a way to merge the old data into the missing parts of the new data/
Maybe I am top secret, i dont know. - Laibcoms, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8We will soon see a "Google Island" there ;)
- AggieTales, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Actually I've zoomed out quite a bit and the island isn't there (you have to do the map mode not satellite or hybrid)
- Pyrogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Question is, is it Google Maps, or is it the old Keyhole data? Did they go through all the Keyhole data and make sure it was positioned correctly?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@ChuckIT
It looks like you are the one who was erased. - Konquest, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Bah, it's just a positionning error. If you go on Google maps as they did, you soom out one or two notches and you see that the placemark is just a little off.
Nothing really exceptional here, moving along... - TrevorBradley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It would be a great April Fools joke for Google Maps' satelite data to be "Google Maps 2201" with the sea level raised 6m.
Either that or we can just wait for it. ;) - OwdenBowden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It was done at the request of the Church of Scientology.
- wizgha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4As a local resident, I have been using those buses for ages. Today I finally got my driving license :)
- synth7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Google has always plotted my house as about 100 yards away from where it actually is on the map.
- PaulOwen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The update function mangles the link, so here it is:
http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=mt+fuji,+japan&ie=UTF8&t=k&om=1&ll=35.333053,138.77758&spn=0.241993,0.462799 - B0SS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nice google.. I hope they fix this soon and get a more decent view of Malta since 60% of it is blurred as hell..
BTW I'm Maltese.. :) - synth7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Yup.
- Strangers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's Atlantis all over again.
- veritech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Noooo, that place has some of the best looking women in europe, it's crime you can't see them, and a even bigger one if you can't see their country.
- RstyShackleford, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Didn't Google do the same thing to Taiwan last year?
- metaphysical, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is terrible!... My country! My people!
(Maltese-American here) - jcliff29, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3>>> Aside from all the crispy burnt chubby middle-aged Brits
I'm a Brit living in Malta, but I must fall into the "absolutely beautiful" category ;-) - Burgerman851, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4In hybrid mode, the label is dead on.
- B0SS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well i think they love playin Jokes on us.. i last year they did this :
http://photos1.blogger.com/img/125/1179/640/l33t-Google-2.jpg when you selected the maltese language
it means Dick In A Can.. - killroy42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I run a couple of sites for Malta and have always waited for decent mapping data. Now they updated the sat images for a central square but not the most poulous cities!! I have higher res images for Malta then Google does, a shame.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just commenting for the awesome Title and Blurb... Kudos!
- dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Submitter's description reminds me of Douglas Adams.
:) - PaulOwen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You should see Mount Fuji in Japan, which is shown as a glowing mass of lava and ash, complete with smoke from the lava flows.
Very strange - I think it must have been somone's idea of a joke but its just never been changed!
Surprised? Not half as much as the people living there! :
http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=mt fuji, japan&ie=UTF8&t=k&om=1&ll=35.359656,138.751144&spn=0.120956,0.2314 - neozeed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If only they could have erased Final Justice!.. I want my two hours back!
Oh the horror of Joe Don Baker aka Deputy Sheriff Thomas Jefferson Geronimo III - seanmc303, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is no mistake. Have you ever watched a James Bond movie? Malta is Google's new secret super villain base. Wa ha ha ha ha ha...
- seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1gIsland (pronounced 'jye-land')
- pyrix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Man, if I lived in Malta, I'd be drunk, laying in the Mediterranean sun anyway, not working.
- plasmafreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like google =
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Woah a screen capture of Google Eath actually running well in Linux, now thats worth a Digg from me.
I have an Intel 845 Extreme graphics adapter in my Linux notebook so Google Earth doesn't run all that well for me. - rushoffailure, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's nothing. Google has maps for places that don't exist. Search Google maps for Centralia, PA. If you go to that location in real life, you'll see it doesn't exist.
Send me a postcard if you get out. - zforrester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All I ever see from The Register is flashy, sensational garbage. It's always something less interesting then they make it out to be. Lame.
- pickypg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The island is still there if you check the satellite portion.
- Wahttehhog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Look up Vietnam on Google Earth, it actually labels Laos as Vietnam.
- wizgha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1-1 Digg for "Maltra" ;)
- avester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its a glitch what's the big deal?
- youngbloodpt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1shame for google.. Maltra is part of European Community... and is a Summer destination for a lot of europeans... -1Digg for Google =)
- GoZO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What about the islands of Gozo and Comino.................... ?
Yes The women are very nice :) - sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Humorous article, but Google doesn't have the map data for Malta yet.
- LeegleechN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Thanks to Gareth Adams for not spotting Malta."

What is Digg?
