- godmode, on 10/10/2007, -4/+82why doesnt the link go to a pic or google.com
- ChrisRo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+56I hope the next 9 years will be as innovative as the first 9...Historically, that doesn't tend to happen...Maybe Google will be different.
- dannysullivan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+39Or, you can go to the ***** site that was explaining more than there's just a logo but also an entire issue about when exactly Google has its birthday. The story covered how two weeks ago, it was Google's 10th birthday if you go by when the domain was registered, and how Google never knows when to celebrate its incorporation date: Sept. 7 and Sept. 27 have both been used as official birthdates, and Sept. 4 is the actual filing date. Plus, it linked back to a previous story showing the logos over the year: http://searchengineland.com/070927-063022.php. It's actually a lot of work to compile that ***** -- ***** you won't find on Google itself. I know, since I was the one shoveling it :)

http://www.google.com/logos/9th_birthday.gif - Thorpe, on 10/10/2007, -3/+23I'm missing out on all these great logos ever since I've been using the themes on iGoogle. :(
- dannysullivan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Perhaps because as the story explains, two weeks ago, it was Google's 10th birthday if you go by domain registration. Or how Google has celebrated both Sept. 7 and Sept. 27 over the years as official birthdays, while Sept. 4 is the actual incorporation date? Right now, Google has four birthdays -- two more than the Queen Of England.
- oneoverzero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13If you can't tell, does it matter?
- digidelia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8wow, a search for "how old is google" was surprisingly bad
- etruscan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Digg is incredibly sensitive about links to what the masses believe are "blogs"... fearing nothing but blog spam. While 9 times out of 10 this is (sadly) true, it's tough for some to know how to weed out the decent stuff and restrain their complaints.
- huskerdude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Pinatas are fairly common at birthday parties in California.
- petemcfraser, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Don't think I'm the only one who noticed the Google logo before hitting this Digg entry.
Buried as... redundant? - dannysullivan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Hahahaha. Yes, I was really hoping to move from PR7 to PR8 by writing an article for my own audience that I didn't submit to Digg. Please. It's nice when things hit Digg, but I have my own audience and have had that audience since, hmm, 1996. That was a few years before Digg came along :)
- in2deep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Google is 9 already? Wow I'm old.
- i208khonsu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I'd hit it.

All the Google Holiday logos from 1999-2006 - cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+2It took me a good few seconds to see the number in the 8th birthday logo.. tricksy.
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -2/+4i can see why this is kind of newsworthy, but why front page material? anyone who uses google would see the special logo, hover over it, and find out what the hell it means.
- FredFredrickson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Was it really necessary to announce that it had a "new logo picture?" They change it for every holiday, and every milestone they encounter, after all.
- dannysullivan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yes, I know how kneejerk some can be on Digg. Occasionally, I like to still make the odd attempt to push back the ocean of insanity that sometimes happens and try and enlighten people.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+2Google cache in case it goes down: http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:zhool8dxBV4J:w ...
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+2You're 9?

http://www.google.com.nyud.net:8090/ - IllBeBack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Because at midnight, it will change back to the regular logo on www.google.com.
- Nidy1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I tried to submit this earlier under www.google.com. A different story linked to www.google.com so I got "Cool, this story has already been submitted."
- jimmick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Because he's a trans-sexual
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I have a feeling he's not so familiar with your work...
I think your response is in need of a Sphinn button - cautiousspade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1what do you get a web site for its b-day....will i card do???
- bagelpirate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It goes to search engine land... imagine that.
- frostyfrog, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Happy Birthday Big G ! Google has really changed the way I do a lot of the things on the web, from web surfing to shopping to email, to getting directions. Hell, even my office has converted from Microsoft Office to Google Documents and Spreadsheets for collaborative projects. Google just seems so ingrained in everything I do on the internet now that I think I might take it for granted every now and then. Thanks for everything Google, love ya.
- etruscan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Raises a question. Should Digg NoFollow?
- dannysullivan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If they want, sure. If they feel nofollow would reduce the number of spam submissions, go for it. I'd say that if a story goes popular, the community has voted it so, and it seems like link credit is deserved. But it makes no difference to me, honestly. Most search folks that look at Digg from a link value perspective like it because if you hit Digg, OTHER people start linking to you -- not that a single Digg link is that powerful.
- etruscan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well of course. I mean... you can tell just by looking at him that he's bad news.
http://static.flickr.com/62/211992774_ed7b19dba9.j ... - po43292, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I was wondering what that was. I was checking my calendar to see if it was a holiday or something.
- CheapDigWannbe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I am amazed that the two most dugg up comments are complaints about not linking to google.com Don't you ***** understand that google has that image for 24 hours only and then it's back to the old logo?!
- Dmaulchris, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Looks like a bunch of condoms
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1until they get hacked, or 'accidentally' release search data like aol did.
- yutt, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I assure you that anything from Danny Sullivan, even if worth reading, is an attempt to leech PageRank.
- potterboy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Viva Pinata!
- kurupttek, on 10/10/2007, -5/+5buried as why is this on the front page?
- jls33fsls, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I share google's birthday!
- celkin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I hear ya, bro
- PrototypeV, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Happy bday Google! My Master Chief wears a party hat for you!

- littleorfnannie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1It's my birthday too! And Avril Levigne's....eww.
- bunnygrenade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Because people are so surprised to see it made news at all that its getting attention. Really, its a modified logo.... it's not like they don't do it for every other national holiday.
- mininger711, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I have the same birthday as google? how awesome is that
- endersshadow, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1It's, um, the Mexican Independence Day, people. September 7th is Google's birthday.
- plosfas, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Today is google's birthday? And it's my birthday? How have I never noticed this before. I feel so privileged.
- flashman2006, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0I used to have pinatas like that one for my birthday when I was a little kid. I really liked beating the hell out of the horse ones, but never bothered to grab the crappy candy pouring out of its guts.
