- Hayes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13"Update: Commenters suggest the Google Blog might’ve been hacked, and that the post is fake. I’m waiting for a reply from Google on this.
Update 2: Google replied with the following statement:
A bug in Blogger enabled an unauthorized user to make a fake post on the Google Blog claiming that we have discontinued our AdWords click-to-call test. The bug was fixed quickly and the post removed. Our click-to-call test is progressing on schedule and we are pleased with the results thus far." - akiraeternal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11This story was deemed, a day ago, as a fake story.
The story was deleted shortly after it was posted. The account must of been hacked.
Flagged as inaccurate - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Google says that the post was FAKE.

Buried as inaccurate. - jole, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Google isn't stupid enough to spell eBay "e-Bay".
- curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Link just went broken, I'll post a screenshot in a couple minutes, as I still have the page up!
Another story here:
http://blog.outer-court.com/archive/2006-10-08-n59.html - curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Looks like the Google Blog removed the post from the RSS as well last night.
My take on it:
Though it looks like it was fake, it could have also been speculation, or even an early announcement that was posted. I can’t see why Google hasn’t officially come out and posted a retraction, explaining all this, unless maybe this was a premature leak. - curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Here is a screenshot of the Google Blog page, that I accessed and linked to here on Digg:

For whatever reason, after about 2 minutes of being published it was removed from their Google Blog. It still shows up in recent posts on the right sidebar, if you go to the Google Blog homepage. - nthitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6An explaination of what happened: http://voip.gigaom.com/2006/10/08/google-click-to-call-not-cancelled-hoax/

flagged as innacurate - bewareofcabbage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The post was poorly written, with several errors. As we know now for sure, it was obviously a fake.
- scorpioz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Follow up story on digg front page suggests it is fake.

- Sonic_Molson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Yet another post where people just read the title and don't fact check. "Digging" should only be allowed after the story has been clicked, and given a timeout to allow for the story to be actually read.
- Raiden256, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well I guess this shows you the limitations of web based media and news. When you need to post something ASAP, you don't have much time for fact/source checking.
However, it's not like the major conventional news services do much fact checking anymore either... - quellerie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ Eisim, I take your point. And I realize how much easier it is in retrospect to spot a fake. But, the poor use of language, plus the use of Google language tools, plus the laughably unlikely scenario of Google doing a mea culpa about "monopolistic practices" on their blog should at least have raised some flags from the get-go. I guess I've grown cynical in my pre-middle age, so I tend to read everything with a jaundiced eye.
- Eisim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3it was worth posting here nonetheless, the source was an entry from googles official blog, and it's easy for you to sit there and say it's an obvious fake - 22 hrs later, when google also has confirmed that it was a fake post. this wasn't really inaccurate, before it turned out that googles official blog had been compromised - and how often does that happen??

Maybe they heard our Mexuar Corraleta application is being launched on October the 24th at Astricon in Dallas and realised their solution was last generation crap.

- quellerie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What amazes me is how nobody noticed the incredibly bad English used in the post. First or even second-language English speakers (i.e. people who would be entrusted by Google to contribute to an official English-language blog) just don't write: "conscientiously considering" or "in media on last days", etc. Nor would such a Google blogger be likely to require Google Language tools to translate a post.
I do hope future diggers count to 10 before rushing to post such an obvious fake. - curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4You can read the comments made at Google Blogoscoped discussion on this post here:
