- brianwesleyan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21I know all of you from the New York area got confused when you saw "Google buying Grand Central".
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7grandcentral is really nice, especially when you sell things online and need a temp phone #, or maybe want a # that is local for others to call and forward to your cell. Nice
- motherwell, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4i use a single number from Grand Central and there are no charges. I think you can have more than one number and that service does have some fees. I am not certain though.
It's a great service - javierror, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4esotericguy: dugg down for a completely pointless observation
- ductoogle, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Am I the only one who thought they were talking about Grand Central Station and think tats just crazy?
- jordanau, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Your next what?
Oh you mean you're next - pwallroth, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5GrandCentral is to phones as pop3 is to email. If cell phone companies cared at all about innovation and genuinely providing a service they would have allowed this idea to be realized years ago.
- tweeto, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@Google, Just make sure it will work world wide...
- ravi7791, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I've never heard of this service but it seems very nice. Can anyone confirm that there are no charges? I want to do my home telephone but don't want some odd charges showing up on my phone bill.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3grandcentral rocks with or without google.
- toxiclove999, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Wish they had Maine numbers >.
- Chakz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2javierror: dugg down for making me expand this ridiculous tree.
- irieKEN, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Grand Central only charges for outgoing calls, but you would only need to use it if you want your Grand Central number to show up on callerID (they give you $3 of outgoing call credit when you sign up). As long as people are calling you, it's free! I love Grand Central:D
And the ability to record ALL incoming calls is great; I sometimes can't understand what people say the first time around. - rufo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There are no charges that will appear on your bill, but there will be a monthly fee structure eventually, and currently they haven't said what features will be in the free version vs. the premium verison.
- mremgee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There's a hint in the video on http://grandcentral.com/home/one_number ... They say "This also means that when you change jobs you can just update your settings..." and the image shows a phone that moves from a Waroo office to a Yoogle office, both with their respective look-alike logos... :)
- arusso, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I can't begin to express how awesome this is..
.
I've been using GC for a little while on a very limited basis, and I still love the site, the only thing that was stopping me was the thought that they would start charging a butt load then being tied to having to pay them because I used their number.. Now I'll actually feel comfortable giving out the number...
If you haven't tried it, try it out, it's awesome... - esotericguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If you look at CrandCentral right now, look at the video to the right. when it gets to the part about moving to a new company look at what the building is named =]
- PathDaemon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Pretty darn, but it does need some improvement — GC features like recording can't be used from calls placed on the site, you can't set a name for Caller ID, and the "call from" announcement is useless unless screening is on. Hopefully The Big G can fix the kinks.

- joe90210, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2jeez, Google is buying out everyone. Question is, will people start saying how they just buy out everyone instead of innovating, like MS is accused of doing?
- GiggleStick, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I've been to the Goocentral website. It's not what your thinking.
- kevin.gc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I wonder why? GrandCentral didn't seem to have any services that were that unique. The only cool part was that it was free.
- ufee, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I was hoping they somehow bought the grand central station. Google + Rail = Grail.
- Vertabreaker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@Carsonauto
You mean Goobay? - thakidd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I have a few GrandCentral invites left, to those intrested, email me thakid999@gmail.com they are $2 a peice, paypal only.
- dkla, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I use GrandCentral all the time. I'm on a 6-month contract in another city, so it's nice to have a local phone number to the area that rings to my back-home original cell phone.
Hope it will still stay free though.... - Eisim, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1this is the one thing i don't get about digg - a story (http://digg.com/tech_news/Google_Could_Buy_Grand_Central) linking directly to the source (http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/06/24/google-to-acquire-grand-central-for-50-million/) was submitted 17 hours before this one.. still, the first, linking to the source of the story, only has 19 diggs right now.. i admit that the submitter of the story i'm referring to wrote the worst description for a story i've ever seen, but still... WHY was this submission picked up, and not the other one???
could it be because webtech (submitter of this story) has a popular stories ratio at 51%?? is the submitter REALLY more important than the story/source? if so - let me be the first to say it sucks.
back to topic - grandcentral is one of the main reasons i'm sad that i don't live in the us - what a great service it seems to be!! - Eisim, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1***** off, spammer!
- brmonroe12, on 11/12/2008, -0/+0If you like GrandCentral also check out Vingtalk.
Its an internet and mobile device app that will let you create or respond to private or group messages by text message, e-mail, and voice to text.
http://www.vingtalk.com/cpp - Veeoh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0omg what a terrible article title - i prefer Grandoogle (c) me!! 2007
- deadowl, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Wow, GrandCentral has online voicemail? cool.
Next step will be cellular video phones, but of course the telcos would want to charge up the ass for it. I would love the VoIP -> phone patent to die.
Bury me. - deadowl, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Wow, GrandCentral has online voicemail? cool.

Bury me. - oprahsTITS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I thought I was the only one who felt outnerded. Glad I'm not alone.
- TechUntangled, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1GrandCentral is also great for those sleazy people (e.g. at night clubs, bars) to give out his/her number without having to give out the real phone number. Calls can be blocked anytime. Most importantly, this http://techuntangled.com/what-could-grandcentral-do-for-google looks at the many reasons for Google to acquire GrandCentral.
- melonhedd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0The situation stated in the summary is not ironic. Dugg down.

- Rileyper, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Its you
- Puppetfunk, on 10/11/2007, -8/+5Is anyone else laughing at the word GooCentral? Maybe it's just me. Hell, I'm still laughing at the "man cannon" in Halo 3.
- deadowl, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1A bit off-topic, but has anyone invented online voicemail yet?
- Carsonauto, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2Ebay, your next.
- esotericguy, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Carsonauto: dugg down for reasons provided by jordanau
Jordanau: dugg down for being the grammar police; its the interent; get used to it, ;)
