- pwdrskier, on 01/15/2009, -4/+304Gmail is so unbelievably superior to all other email services
- ricksite, on 01/15/2009, -2/+51I wish there was some way to have the sender set an expiration on an email. This way when someone sends an all office message saying, "I brought donuts, they are in the breakroom,", they could set an expiration of one day after which it would be archived or delete. Another example would be when someone sends a, "I'm printing labels, don't use the printer." message. I don't need these messages after the event has occurred.
- hiimcliff, on 01/15/2009, -2/+32Because Google proved to us that folders ***** suck. Labels > folders.
- ileftfark, on 01/15/2009, -0/+29I'm not sure if you Folders people understand labels are the same exact thing, only you can put a single message into more than one "folder" using labels.
- hiimcliff, on 01/15/2009, -0/+23one word: FILTERS!!!!
- wolfing, on 01/15/2009, -1/+23I didn't know people had problems with the 'unread' messages. Maybe I suck, but I don't have unread mail (if I do... I read them).
- JakeW, on 01/15/2009, -1/+18The $100 bill is so unbelievably superior to all other American dollars.
- Supernova36, on 01/15/2009, -0/+13This is genius and I'm about to go turn it on.
I do sometimes wonder if it is necessary to save about 3 seconds from my email inbox time.. And yes it is. - josephbloseph, on 01/15/2009, -0/+13You'll be waiting a long time.
- Aleman360, on 01/15/2009, -0/+12Manually organizing your email with folders and tags is a waste of time. Gmail's powerful search capabilities makes it obsolete.
As for having too many unread emails... just have it display all Unread and mark them read. - burstaneurysm, on 01/15/2009, -4/+16Am I the only person who likes keeping stuff in the inbox? It allows me to have a small archive of recent email available to me on my iPhone's inbox.
- coldfusion1970, on 01/15/2009, -1/+13You have a 'send later' function aready, its called 'save as draft'.
- aknews, on 01/14/2009, -1/+12I'm losing focus when I have too many unread messages in my inbox. It is pretty useful feature.
- Burrito, on 01/15/2009, -0/+9IMO, the Inbox is for priority items only. Everything that doesn't require action on my part within 7 days should be tagged & archived.
- rayray14, on 01/15/2009, -0/+9I do.
- ultrafez, on 01/15/2009, -0/+9We don't use TCFW here.
- mikelieman, on 01/16/2009, -0/+8Maybe you don't want to wait until 5pm to send your boss a daily status report friday afternoon?
- ilikeeggs8877, on 01/15/2009, -4/+11i think you might be the only one.
- generaleet, on 01/15/2009, -0/+6So simple yet so genius.
- hiimcliff, on 01/15/2009, -0/+7I used to be like you. Then I discovered booleans, smart searching, and filters that work with labels. Then it was goodbye 9000+ messages in the inbox.
- Aleman360, on 01/15/2009, -0/+7None really, just makes it so they're only visible if you click the "All Mail" button.
I can see how that would be useful if you're using IMAP/POP3 because then you have separate folders for Inbox and All Mail. - mikelieman, on 01/16/2009, -0/+6I think they mean something like 'scheduled send' or as I like to think about it, 'lie about when I sent this..."
- zyklon, on 01/15/2009, -2/+8I'm still waiting for some Yahoo or Hotmail fanboy to come in and say "***** Gmail" or whatever.
Gmail for life. - thedragon4453, on 01/16/2009, -0/+6Just out of curiosity, what do you do that you receive that much email?
- donkevin, on 01/15/2009, -1/+7I used to use both back in the day. Then I got an invite to Gmail. Never looked back.
- r00fus, on 01/15/2009, -0/+6I treat those messages like junk mail.
Really, that's like getting a group sms or skype. - MScrip, on 01/16/2009, -0/+5> "I know they have filters."
I think you mean labels. - frishackbanned, on 01/15/2009, -0/+5Someday, you'll be dead and no one will mention folders again.
- aniketnp, on 01/16/2009, -0/+5I don't think Hotmail will last that long.
- libertao, on 01/15/2009, -0/+5http://ragemanchoo.tripod.com/5000dollar_1934_FedR ...
- inactive, on 01/15/2009, -0/+5labels solve the one thing folders can't
What if an email falls into 2 folders? you're screwed! 2 labels though, still golden! - FXNGLAS, on 01/15/2009, -1/+6Cool feature I guess? I won't need it though. I have like 5,000 email in inbox. What difference does archiving them make?
- ssavoy, on 01/16/2009, -0/+4Filters are a godsend. I have about 20 filters sorting mail into 11 labels. It's crazy but awesome.
- a1lostnomad, on 01/15/2009, -1/+5You're not the only one. I leave everything in my inbox. If it's something I need to go back to later I just star it.
- robbob, on 01/16/2009, -2/+5Yahwho?
- inactive, on 01/15/2009, -1/+4It's perhaps re-assuring that development continues on Gmail, in contrast with the earlier digg today about "Google Giveth and Google Taketh Away" - http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/google_giveth ...
- bacon_skoda, on 01/15/2009, -1/+4Drag and Drop being the best part.
- BradOFarrell, on 01/15/2009, -1/+4I never have problems with unreads because I have a bunch of filters in place. All of my 'notification' emails from websites are collected together under a filter and skip the inbox, so I just mark-all-as-read those from time to time.
- Godlike, on 01/15/2009, -0/+3Could easily be an hour over your lifetime... that's a pretty decent nap.
- TimDigg, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3 "I don't understand their weird ideology against folders."
oh I completely understand their ideology...
In the data driven world we live in today, we should use metadata to define data relationships instead of folder trees...
that said...I still want folders :) - Drakoola, on 01/16/2009, -1/+4'lie about when I sent this..."
Out of curiosity, why would somebody want to do this. - troymccluresf, on 01/15/2009, -0/+3Google, I love you and fully support you taking over the world, but pleas, please fix Google Contacts http://mail.google.com/mail/contacts/ui/ContactMan ... This G1 owner is begging you.
- Godlike, on 01/15/2009, -1/+4I agree, I love gmail and google docs and anything that will store my precious, precious data online permanently for me. I have lost so many backup CD's, hard drives, blah etc over the years...
Anyway, there is just one thing that I wish gmail would give the ***** in on: FOLDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know they have filters. It's not the same. I don't understand their weird ideology against folders. My inbox is never clear anyway because I put stuff off.
There is not a single god damn thing wrong with drag and drop directory structure filing and I don't understand why they think there is. If they want a larger market share, pandering at least in a token way to the 95% of corporate email users that use notes and outlook would be a good start.
Yeah I grew up in PINE so don't look at me that way. - teaaker, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3You obviously don't have emails coming in from Work, School, Mailing lists, facebook, etc. If you do you are missing out. I recently organized mine and went from 1500+ emails in inbox to 0. They are all organized now with labels and filters.
- enicholas, on 01/15/2009, -0/+3You may not get the same amount of email some of us do. I get *at least* 100 emails a day which are too important for me to simply ignore, and if I don't really stay on top of them they pile up fast.
And that's on top of the two or three hundred which I don't really need to read. - gametavern, on 01/15/2009, -3/+5had 6000+ in my inbox. Just found the "select all in inbox" button... now it's clean.
- hiimcliff, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2folder?
- MScrip, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2> "At the very least, add an option to hide all labeled mails in the Inbox and have them only accessible via search and clicking on the label."
Isn't that what Archive is? - dgendreau, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2There are firefox extensions (Better Gmail or GTDInbox for example) that turn any tag with slashes in it into a tree structure.
Its the best of both worlds because you get folders as well as being able to apply multiple tags to an email. - Mard, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2Gmail is part of the brand, and it's profitable to boot. It will never go away.
