- mathwizxp, on 11/25/2008, -1/+64This is a really good demonstration of YouTube's updated size / quality.
- Cglass, on 11/25/2008, -1/+26This will really enhance the slow motion replays of people snapping their legs and what not. I'm pretty excited.
Is it sad that I'm actually happy youtube doesn't allow porn? - CharlesSaint, on 11/25/2008, -0/+14Except, by the time it buffers, you'll have closed the tab.
- Trigononamous, on 11/25/2008, -0/+13Now I can finally be rickrolled in glorious high definition!
- zulfy26, on 11/25/2008, -0/+13It doesnt matter, the game is based around getting the best time, so you dont need to see the ghosts of other players that well.
- sleeknerve, on 11/25/2008, -0/+12trackmania
- Chicken, on 11/25/2008, -1/+12Don't you EVER say that.
- RyanWilliams, on 11/25/2008, -0/+10You have to be realistic and account for peoples' connection speeds and CPU, as well as Google's bandwidth. You're not going to get HD proper being streamed via the web, considering you'd be looking at many gigabytes per file.
This is still a much welcome boon to the video quality. :) - aepex, on 11/25/2008, -1/+11This isn't even close to 720p video.
720p = 1280x720
This = 640x360
In other words, it's exactly half. Still, looks pretty nice compared to what I'm used to seeing on YouTube. - nnagflar, on 11/25/2008, -0/+9The video is no longer available. To fix this problem, please try our free virus scan. Click here.
- acegi, on 11/25/2008, -0/+9it is still available. might wanna fix something in your computer...
- griffeycom, on 11/25/2008, -0/+9Wow, so much more pleasant to watch in Full screen!
- NiTaS, on 11/25/2008, -0/+7Who ***** cares?
Its free. - Muler36, on 11/25/2008, -0/+6oh shut up, this has been done too many times. At least use it with some relevance to what the news is even about!
- R031E5, on 11/25/2008, -0/+6Whoa! I have 5 lethal viruses! I should pay for your software so it can remove them!
- jeremec, on 11/25/2008, -1/+7Is that a real game?
- kubedawg, on 11/25/2008, -0/+5Trackmania: Nations Forever = free to dl. Kinda fun for just 1 player, gets kinda choppy multiplayer.
- jayll, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4Is there a tutorial on how to get videos in that quality uploaded to youtube? All my uploaded videos look like crap on youtube but look great on my standalone player.
- korbink, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4Ridiculous.
- relik, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4Actually, using Safari's Activity window, I downloaded the actual video the flash player is retrieving with &fmt=22 and it is 1280x720. The file is 7791112 bytes and the duration is exactly 31 seconds, near 2 Mbps. The data rate as expressed in the MP4 header is only 48 bits per second, so I assume there is some kind of youtube loophole being exploited.
I just downloaded the normal quality one and it's about a meg and only 320x180. The high quality / fmt=22 definitely makes a big difference. - Kflo, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4Does anyone else get the glitch where it doesn't auto-play, but when you click somewhere in the timeline it plays fine?
- Zeigy, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4I can't wait to see all those ass shaking videos i watch in hi def. :D
- RyanWilliams, on 11/25/2008, -0/+4Don't think I've ever seen a quadruple post on Digg before!
- Trigononamous, on 11/25/2008, -1/+4Took long enough.
- ChemBot, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3woah, how did I manage to quad post? I only pressed save reply once... Let's see if it'll happen again
- sonicularulus, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3And the fact that its flash means that the bit-rate cant be high enough to keep the details you see in real HD video.
High definition isnt just the pixel count. The bit-rate also makes a difference. Thats why blu-ray pwns hd-dvd - diggapleeeze, on 11/25/2008, -1/+4Well, now Youtube has caught up to Vimeo
- Littleluk, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3So can anyone upload HD content now or how is this working? Help please, looks great and I'm really looking forward to that
- diggapleeeze, on 11/25/2008, -1/+4In terms of having 720p video available, yes. That's what I'm insinuating. Am I wrong?
- N256, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3The 640x360 supposedly isn't showing all the pixels, which is why you have to fullscreen it.
- relik, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3Using Safari's Activity window, I downloaded the actual video the flash player is retrieving with &fmt=22 and it is 1280x720. Either way, it's great, just too much action for 720p @ 2 Mbps.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3It's a game based around out-landish, custom tracks. Lots of loops and jumps and stuff. Pretty fun (and free)
- relik, on 11/25/2008, -0/+3see my first reply to you, it is indeed 1280x720.
- AngelBunny, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2actually in quality youtube is only 480p vimeo went up to 1080p which is like 6x to 8x more bandwidth consuming. in terms of quality youtube still has a way to go
- ChemBot, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2I downloaded the video with Replay Media Catcher and it's definitely a 720p mp4 video. The reason it looks smaller on the youtube site is likely because they scaled it down to fit the page width. If you show it full screen, it'll look much better than a smaller resolution video would.
- johnnyOnline, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2it's awesome! with a world of hd widescreen cameras in the hands of everyone and their dog this is a seriously sweet upgrade. way to go youtube!
- JekJob, on 11/25/2008, -1/+3Click "watch in normal quality" under the video. It's terrible. The "HD" version is better than nothing.
- hitmikey, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2What's the effect on viewing in on the iPhone?
[idk what the iPhone's max res is] - RooDoG, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2So now we need to update all our internet meme youtube links to High"er" Def... make the change internet...
- Zanneth, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2Just another example of how Google's servers have more hard drive space than they know what to do with! Kidding though, this is an excellent, long awaited feature.
- TJ229ER, on 11/25/2008, -1/+3Check out www.vimeo.com for 720P video streaming.
- AgentMull, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2That site kinda causes its own down fall, doesn't it?
- epadafunk, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2yes
- DredPir8Robrts, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2Hello Youporn? Are you watching this?
- wkeown, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2bout time
- wheremyarm, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2Except it doesn't take weeks or a special player to load a video.
- sonicularulus, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2like I said flash HD video isn't really true HD because of its low bit rate.
Its annoying how things are being called HD just because of the pixels when bit-rate plays such a bigger and much more important factor. - Davers, on 11/25/2008, -1/+3click full screen...
- zer0, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2That's not even in hd! -stomps off-
- BugMeNot2, on 11/25/2008, -0/+2From the description for this video:
"Final video rendered with SUPER (free), in the .mov format with h.264 codec, 1280 by 720 resolution 16:9 aspect ratio, 6000 kbps."
That should produce a good quality video. His video certainly turned out well. -
