- Ubergoober3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+326Froogle= Frugal
Not a dumb name. - NycterisA, on 10/12/2007, -5/+147I agree; I always thought it was a cute name!
- diggleague, on 10/12/2007, -3/+126I thought "Google Base" was way more confusing than "Froogle". It least Froogle implies a monetary element. Google Base makes me think of a fortress full of Googlers.
- edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -2/+91Froogle was definitely a better name.
- tekrat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+88Agreed. I thought it was a rather creative name, like 'del.icio.us' or 'topix.net'.
- sgi02, on 10/12/2007, -0/+57I always liked Froogle :( The new name reminds me of the horrible naming convention of the new Microsoft office products...
The Microsoft Office System 2007 Hyper Turbo Edition XT HD - 60effects, on 10/12/2007, -6/+39I liked Froogle. Could it be that the average American didn't see the play on 'frugal'? Or even know what frugal means?
btw, the more I look at the word, the more I think of fraggle, as in Fraggle Rock - digdug135, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26It will always be Froogle in my heart.
- violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Same here. That said, the name change is kind of like having a friend tell you all of a sudden that he really, REALLY hates the nickname you've been calling him by for the past four years.
So now do we call it GPS for short? Uh oh. - antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22After reading the title on my feed, I was afraid that Google had done away with the service. I use it almost daily!
- prezzy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22RIP Froogle
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21It worries me when google starts talking about "growing up". This is a company that has prided itself in its playfullness for so long, and I'm going to miss froogle. :-(
- jorach, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I was down with Froogle. I didn't like it as much as Pricegrabber, but the name was fine.
- Yorn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18frugal (frū'gəl) - careful in the use of material resources.
What was it about Froogle that made them not find this a good name? I only used it to compare prices. Why? Well, because I'm a frugal bastard and I don't mind saying. Seems to me they just cheapened the website by "going corporate" with the name.
First step in losing the "fun" factor, and they'll never turn back. Good job Google. - Pokez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14That Microsoft product name needs more "Pro" in it... can't have a Microsoft product without the "Pro".
- Twinked, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Gunna chime in with I liked the name Froogle. I never used it, and probably won't use the new named product search either. But the name was ok.
- ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Service Pack 6
- craftyshrew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I loved the name Froogle but I think Google is becoming more brand savvy and doesn't like breaking apart their logo. With sites like Booble out there, people may not have associated Froogle with Google...those people would also be idiots but alas, they do exist.
- bcasper1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8besides for the name i think they made a mistake by moving the refining search tool to the bottom of the page. I used that thing all the time because it made it easy to sort out junk you see as soon as you search. now i have to scroll to the bottom through garbage products i didnt really search for to refine my search by price, seller, category, etc
- Amnesia10, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The Froogle name is much better than its replacement. I wonder how long it will be before they change it back?
- ActionableMango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Pro? Oh please, it's all about being "Ultimate" now.
- grubesteak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7*sigh* I liked the name Froogle. "Google Product Search" sounds so ... stale and boring. Very un-Google.
- GnuTzu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I guess I'll be the die-hard Froogle user. That is, I won't stop using the service, and I'll probably keep calling it "Froogle".
- hammr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I don't know about you, but I plan on always using the "www.froogle.com" URL, no matter what they call it.
Somehow I don't see www.GoogleProductSearch.com catching on. - mal1964, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12I agree I named my first born after that, its going to break his little heart
- Hormelinator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4what is different? the filtering is at the bottom and the products are a little more to the left?
is all the google news (froogle, powerpoint thing, buying doubleclick) a smoke screen? (earnings out this evening)
- don't get me wrong I'm an insane google fan boy too - inajeep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Froogle rock.
- dpknc84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Froogle was a great name, it just should have been marketed more than being "just a link" at the top of the Google search box.
"If Froogle was too cutesy, what about that other notable funky Google product name -- Gmail, a play on Google + email? Will that be changing to Google Mail?"
They better leave that the hell alone. - Hentez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&tab=wf&q=
- jaym104, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10Yeah I'm with you, but more than likely the average user is ignorant and would think of the word "froogle" as a breed of dog rather than a pun.
- niradg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i have to wonder- is this evidence of Google "jumping the shark?" It seems like they have chosen the lowest common denominator over creativity.
- saxsux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Damn. I loved the name Froogle. :(
- h3ndrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Their reason for changing seems innocent enough.
Just thank god they did @gmail.com and not @googleemailservice.com - howrare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2too late, in the uk it is google mail: http://mail.google.com/mail/help/intl/en-GB/googlemail.html
- mdnash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2bah, its still no shopwiki.com
burried - ronaldsze, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Oh god, still in beta after 4 years
- RoflMyWaffle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Froogle was very creative if you ask me.. I totally agree. Frugal means to save money and shop smart, it compliments google great, the words seem like they were meant to be together
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's difficult to view your own searches in the recent searches box. I keep typing in "butt plugs" and hitting enter - delete - F5 but never see it for the screen shot.
- brihar73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Relapro.com is kinda cool, too. But, I do think Google has "given in" to thinking of a more mainstream (as well as more BOOOORING!) name. The "Froogle" name showed creativity.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now that Ultimate has been used, I've been wondering what superlative they're going to use for the next batch of releases. "Super duper edition"? "
- xstevenx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1can someone write a greasemonkey script to change product search back to frooooooogle?
- TheTSArt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When it was Froogle, I could do a product search by Zip Code, and it would even show me a Google map of where the stores were that carried whatever I was looking for. I can't seem to find that feature now. Is it gone?
- IMustBeEmo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I just died a little inside. ='[
- ace87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The new interface is really nice. It is a lot cleaner and definitely google name worthy.
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well I don't care what they officially call it as long as I can just type in froggle to get to it.
I really don't feel like typing www.google.com/product. - badken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Google Product Search?
Yawn. - CthulhuDawn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Unfortunately, I think most of America is too dumb to understand the play on words.
- bysubmitted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1diggleague: All your Google Base are belong to us!
- dorxincandeland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@xenlab: [M]uch?
