- superfunkypants, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Essentially this is a more accessible version of Project Gutenberg, which is where most of the texts come from. Its far prettier with more eBook formats.
- seemsArtless, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I'll pass, and instead download human-read MP3 and Ogg files from http://librivox.org/ thanks.
- designerjoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Audiobooks are great for my long commute in the car.

Well, I sometimes like to have an audiobook playing while I read the text from a real book. Having a voice with the words helps me to understand what is happening in the book. I don't know why this is, but it is just the most comfortable way that I can read. - cybernetic798, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6The original free ebooks site:

As superfunkypants pointed out, this is basically a more accessible version of PG and seems to have more formats. But there are other libraries as well, such as:
http://www.questia.com/
http://digital.library.upenn.edu/books/
Also, very accessible ebooks:

- BobR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can find a long list of great e-book sources here at www.MobileRead.com...

- selvin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2thanx, for adding more list of ebooks sites, those are worth digging too :)
- skillet2extreme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2May be old news (I found this website on here too), but still a worthy site. Digg gets so many new users that some of this good stuff would be missed if not reposted.
- zyphbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2at least the link the "digger" gave, the ipod collections don't work correctly. You choose to download in iPod format, click download, then it downloads a .zip file, but the file is empty, and i have tried 6 totally different books. No Digg.
- graywave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Exactly. People complaining about duplicate stories I can understand, but if it's really cool, and especially if it has been updated with something new, post it again!
Yes, I know that Digg is supossed to be a news site, but it is also a great resource for things people otherwise wouldn't find easily. I can't count how many times I've found something really neat on Digg that wouldn't be labeled "news." - aquax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I listen to audiobooks while I get some exercise. Jogging or walking seems to be less of a chore if I'm distracted with a decent book.
- fireproof, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Did you let the webmaster at manybooks.net know about the problem?
http://manybooks.net/contact.php - scotticus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4appeal of audiobooks: I have a job that has a fair amount of boring manual labor and I use my Shuffle with audiobooks to get me through the boring stuff. Hands free and allows me to multitask.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1try http://www.ebooksclub.org/
there are 16000 free ebooks there, register to see tho ;)
ye will be thanking me for this resource :) - mryokai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very nice, I love free iPod stuff.
Check out http://www.ipodsubwaymaps.com/ for free ipod subway maps as well - ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3muikano, not all audiobooks are abridged. Most new releases ship abridged first, and then the unabridged comes later. I just listened to Demon Haunted World, by Carl Sagan unabridged :-)
- PlancksCnst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Basically, like the others said. When you are doing chores around the house, driving, mindless data entry at work, or any task where you're eyes are busy but your brain is not, you can listen to an audiobook or podcast. An (fictional) audiobook is just another storytelling medium. The difference between that and movies is that an audiobook was created keeping in mind there are no visual cues; you have to rely on words and possibly foley and a score.

Just ignore the Russian and do a bit of searching. They have certain books which I don't think they have permission for :). (Stephen King, DaVinci Code, Tolkien, Dean Koontz) - balan73, on 09/04/2008, -0/+0Great resourses http://www.ebooknetworking.com http://www.downloadfreepdf.com
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8akira117 *Reported Lame* for being a "Lame Ass" jerk. If you don't like it, don't digg it -- It's as easy as that. You might actually want to post a better site in the comments before you go on a rampage! Gosh!
- likeyodaitalk, on 03/07/2008, -0/+0Cool. I've been surfing around for some ebook freebies. So far I've only come across stuff like Baen and Tor.com's scifi ebooks. They're all legit and DRM-free, but I'd like to have some varying genres.
Btw - CupofDice, http://ww.Tor.com was giving out Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn book...you know - the guy who's going to complete the Wheel of Time series for R. Jordan? here's the pdf if you want it - http://hbpub.vo.llnwd.net/o16/video/olmk/tor.com/9 ... - lonelyguyn1, on 02/09/2009, -0/+0Rape movies fantasy: http://top-movies-sites.com/

the source is http://2020ok.com , also another free books collection - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2For audiobooks, I don't even bother with those text-to-speech book downloads. I agree, human-read is the way to go.
- mesoed, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4There's always http://podiobooks.com/
- selvin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I believe all zombies are lame, but there are exceptions, you are *uckin lame....
thanx "avenger" i think u answered akira's problem - BuckyTheCat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I don't suppose this has a coral cache, does it? It appears to already be killed by the onslaught.
- omenmedia, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3it's dead, Jim
- Milamber, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2but not as we know it ;)
- muikano, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2The worst thing about audiobooks are the fact that they are abridged. And the fact that most authors use their inside voice to write and when it comes out as an audiobook, the book's failings are more pronounced. You can't really skip the bad parts as readily as you can when you scan a book.
- strcmp, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Can someone please explain the appeal of audiobooks? Thanks.
- lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1It works fine if you just keep refreshing the page like a madman.
Better yet, from several PC's simultaneously. I wrote a script.... - Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2oh ive got a site for that... mininova!

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Yes, as if you didn't know. That wasn't really funny in my opinion. :-)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1The "worth digging" is just lame. Everything here is worth digging by the respective author.
- beta1, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1cool?
+Digg - akira117, on 10/12/2007, -23/+1*Reported Lame*
For having "(worth digging)"!?
Like I'm a *uckin zombie and after I read that I HAVE to digg it!!!

What is Digg?
