- dreadroberts, on 01/31/2008, -3/+11Yes, the USB stick, or the Book. Also, they give you a bunch of cool stickers, and five email forwarding addresses @member.fsf.org ... a pretty cool address for your open source resume or contact info, especially considering that there are so few addresses already taken that you can probably get your first name as the address!
- piratehead, on 01/31/2008, -3/+10A viral license is exactly what you need if you want your software to stay free.
- l0ckd0wn, on 01/31/2008, -5/+12Bump for a good cause!
- Fernandou, on 01/31/2008, -3/+9And the cool book by RMS himself...
- schestowitz, on 01/31/2008, -4/+9Dugg for the ninjas. Scary stuff!
- joshuagay, on 01/31/2008, -4/+9Hi diggers :-) I wanted to thank everyone for all the work you did in 2007 in helping us spread the word, fight against DRM, and support DefectiveByDesign and the Free Software Foundation. And thank you for helping us to make our membership drive such a success! I look forward to working with all of you in the coming year

[[ The real points come from supporting the Software Freedom itself ]] - activist, on 02/01/2008, -0/+2Im happy for the FSF, been there and a member since they started the program.

http://www.binaryfreedom.info - dreadroberts, on 02/01/2008, -1/+3I know this guy is just a troll, but if there is someone out there who is actually thinking about it, the issue is this: freedom for the end user. If you release something as public domain, you're only giving the "freedom" to the developer, who will release a propriety version with new features, and all of a sudden your free software is outdated and the end user is using a version that is not in any way free. Don't be fooled by Digglive's propaganda that "true" freedom includes giving a developer the "freedom" to strip all freedom from his end users.
- einfeldt, on 01/31/2008, -5/+6No, using BitTorrent to download illegal copies of software still makes you dependent on software that does not respect your civil right to share the code legally, to improve the code, and to share your improvements with others. Maybe you are not interested in improving the code, but someone you trust might want to help you by improving code and then sharing those improvements with you. As long as you use code that is not legal to share and to open up, you really are still dependent on a company that doesn't care about you. I like to use Free Open Source Software because I know that if I have a problem, there is a community of people who care whether I am having problems or not, and they will help me. So accessing to the source code is a functional requirement that I place on all software that I use.
- joshuagay, on 01/31/2008, -1/+2It is a sad thing that people exploit power and remove liberty. That throughout human history, humans have denied others the time or freedom to engage in constructive and humane activities, such as the free exchange of knowledge or the creation of functional works of art and science. Why belittle the efforts of those who are working to ensure that each individual has the freedom to engage in these activities if they so choose? Even if it is not all cultural or functional works, but just a narrow set of them? To what ends do you seek by sharing your bitterness and your resent?

- DiggLive, on 01/31/2008, -3/+3You missed the joke entirely. I wouldn't even use BitTorrent for software since it can be altered and tampered with. I only use it for a few movies and mostly TV shows.
- barbarianhero, on 01/31/2008, -3/+3Worth every cent, the business card size bootable live CD is pretty sweet too :)
- DiggLive, on 01/31/2008, -5/+5If you want true software freedom, use public domain. Forcing the source code to stay open is a restriction in itself, which isn't freedom.
- FreeDeb, on 01/31/2008, -3/+3Right now is a pretty timely time to join.
- dreadroberts, on 02/01/2008, -1/+1Yeah totally. What's funny is to take a look at ratbear's profile: the hypocrite spends all of his time on funny video clips (right now it's failed lip synching and orgasms in Star Trek), and he has the nerve to slight the importance of software Freedom. One of his "favorites" is apparently "Microsoft Says Vista More Secure Than XP, OSX and Linux". What a joke: you can see this clown for the fanboy he is. Joshua, if you look at the current spread of diggs on this page, I'd have to say Digg is letting you down on this one.
- dreadroberts, on 02/01/2008, -1/+1Meh, we shouldn't have even replied to feed the troll... From looking at his comment history, it's clear he puts anti-linux comments in almost every Linux or Microsoft related piece of news to hit the front page since he joined.
- Kickasso, on 02/01/2008, -1/+1Do explain
- inactive, on 01/31/2008, -4/+3Type "silly penis" into google (with the quotes) and my profile is the first result. That's impressive.
- ratbear, on 01/31/2008, -5/+4Only a handful of developers/geeks truly value the ability to freely view and edit source code. Let's not try and make this something it's not. In the pantheon of civil causes, software freedom is an insignificant blip on the radar
- ratbear, on 02/01/2008, -3/+1it's not just you.
- j2crux, on 02/01/2008, -5/+2I like gnu, i like the movement, but is it just me or whenever you read anything by RMS you just want to punch him in the nuts?
- estvir, on 01/31/2008, -4/+1Buried because they're hypocrites!
- ratbear, on 02/01/2008, -4/+1I'm not a fanboy, I'm not anti-linux, in fact you are lying because I have never talked ***** about linux. I like Linus Torvalds, you will see that I have positive comments toward him if you really felt the need to look through my history (WTF? who does that?). I just know it pisses the FSF-types off when I favorite an MS favorable story. So piss the ***** off you whiny little cocksniffer.
- DiggLive, on 01/31/2008, -9/+4I already have a Free Software Foundation. It's called BitTorrent.
- Error601, on 01/31/2008, -7/+2Uh, yea. Clueless.
- Error601, on 01/31/2008, -16/+5No thanks. The GPL license is ridiculous and viral. Go with BSD or Apache.
- GeleGrodan, on 01/31/2008, -24/+4First!
