- ltmon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26I'm pretty sure VMark's question was along the lines of "What's in it for them?".
dumb ass. - corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Yea... Um, I don't mean to be a party pooper, but I submitted this exact same story with the exact same title a few days ago and it only got 5 or 6 diggs... why is that?
http://digg.com/tech_news/Free_Services_for_your_Cell_Phone - theexpress, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I tried Google with weather and received a message before i could get out of the text messaging window on the cell phone.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9i'll digg you corsairstw. {hug}

" What's the catch?
There is none. We do not require any information from you at all. We respect your privacy and want you to utilize our services without concerns about confidentiality. We simply want you to use this services, tell your friends about it and soon we will have some other amazing offers for you on this site. " - amandaw33, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I use the free 411 all the time. Only annoying part is they don't connect you so you either have to remember the number or write it down. Still much better than forking over another few bucks to the carrier
- freakydingo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9So you're telling me I'm the only one who thought the "Suppose you've just pinged your sister," line was funny?
I feel perverted :-/ - vegasmacguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Another useful one that I use all the time is 1-800-555-TELL http://www.1-800-555-tell.com/ .
They offer stock quotes, movie times, taxis, ringtones, weather, sports and a whole bunch of other information for free. I use it to check all the local movie times instead of calling each theater. - VMark, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Does anyone know why a company offers free international calling?
- VMark, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8affanjam..
Seriously? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Jesus, the if you hadn't included the "dumbass" I might have thought that you were kidding. But... Wow. Seriously.
Does anyone know how Affanjam remembers his password? - scuba7183, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7most of these i wouldn't use, but YouMail looks interesting...

FYI: Sometimes it is really hard to make a successful call.. and only land line phone works for most European countries. - BillyB, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Very useful , wow!
- Micrll, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Sigh...They used to connect you for free but too many people abused the system, using skype to make free phone calls like crazy. They additionally did not have enough adds to cover their operating costs by connecting people.
Still useful though. - xtremesniper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Neither is Pinger :(
- Bitruder, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6YouMail isn't available in Canada :(
- fucayama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3no dingo, there are many more like us.....
this is digg after all - corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Aww, shucks. Thanks guys, for giving my story some love.
- valgar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Remember, anything is possible if you don't care who gets the credit. Good article. While not everything will be for everyone, there are good nuggets in there.

corsair, yeah ur post was one word too many :-) hugs - awhileago, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1Despite occasional headaches, technology has also brought us plenty to be thankful for: safety, convenience and entertainment on the go. Next time you're running late, lost or lonely, ask yourself: aren't you grateful for your cellphone? A message from Pinger alerts a user that a voice mail message has been received. Actually, don't answer yet. With every passing month, cellphones are becoming even more useful. Sure, it's nice that they let you call people from the road. But lately, their reach has grown, thanks to clever programmers making links between the cellular world and the Internet. Here, for your gratitude-generating pleasure, is a rundown of some of the most exciting and powerful services awaiting your cellphone at this very moment. Better yet, at the moment, they're all free.
- m00dy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3anybody know the list of countries?
- mutabi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Thanks for the awesome link. Now I should be able to call home to Ireland a lot more often! +digg
- rip747, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I didn't digg this submission, I digged yours. Just thought I let you know :)
- MrBobby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Petenicely was foward thinking enough to type cellphone as one word, not two. For this he was awarded properly.
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A question:
If you send a text to Google , you are still charged right? - KillerKellerjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most Cellphones have a note feature that allows you to save a phone number as a note while your on the phone call itself to whoever....give it a try and check out your options while on your next phone call. I use it all the time to save, well duh, notes!!!
- Perno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use 800-555-TELL at least once/weekend, and I use GOOGL a few times a week.
TELL is useful for up-to-date sports scores when you don't want to wait for your phone to connect to the Internet and such. You can also play blackjack with a voice that impersonates Sean Connery when you're bored, kind of funny.
I use GOOGL for phone numbers and definitions, they usually text me back instantly. I have unlimited texts so it works out well. - awhileago, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1Despite occasional headaches, technology has also brought us plenty to be thankful for: safety, convenience and entertainment on the go. - AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been using Google's SMS services for years, it's ***** awesome. Usually I use the dictionary, but I also use sport scores, and occasionally driving directions. Even though both my phones are web enabled, and I usually use regular Google or Yahoo, I find that the SMS service is the fastest way to get at a lot of stuff.
And usually I get a text message back in less than 30 seconds. I've never not had it work that I can recall. - Lindsay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The google mobile service may be free, but it warns that carrier services may charge...I'm sure they do..I haven't heard of free text messages..
- piranhaa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm with TELUS in Canada... I get the replies quite promptly =)
- snipes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I might try that pinger stuff.
- wnysteel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thanks, i knew something like this had to exist, but i couldn't find it. works sweet!
- FidelBlack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If its free then its for me!
- amescreative, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great article. The future phone idea is interesting and I might even try pinger. Hey, has anyone seen a service or program for recording your cell phone calls? I work for a company that creates phone recording software ( Great by the way if you want to easily record your landlines http://www.telephone-recording.com ) but we've been unable to find a bridge to allow for recording cells. Anyone seen anything that can address this?
- ruggerkets15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I also do not enjoy getting nickel and dimed with cell phone bills. However it's questionable whether it's worth the inconvenience, but ill give it a shot
- lupinglade, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4meh
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3hey that free 411 sounds useful especially when you don't have access to the internet. thanks.
- petenicely, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I dugg it better!
- chaimpot0k, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3They are missing ToneThis
http://www.tonethis.com/
Never pay for those rip off ringtones, make your own! - flcnstu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well i think this is a great things if it really works, since i hate getting nickled and dimed when it comes to my cell phone bill. If it wasn't for a site like this...I'm not sure anyone would find out about this great offer.
- cjmemay, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Fantastic article. Great services. THANKS!
- scosol, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1@vegasmacguy
wtf kind of phone do you have that doesn't know what time it is? - damentz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Gah, doesn't work with wine, what in the world are the windows media 9 codecs for anyway?
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2It's always fun to get free stuff from telecommunications companies, they have had their way with us for a long time. Another useful thing is WAP. You can pay $6/mo more with T-Mobile and you can browse the web, viewing any XHTML MP or WML site. m.gmail.com is xhtml mp and allows for accesing your email with a phone.
http://wap.yahoo.com.au/
provides yahoo mail and other goodies. You can access it with your browser, it's just xhtml which most browsers can view. - paulxx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Ive been using www.oyco.com it has free SMS also Worldwide to over 200 countries, you get 5 free with your trial and you can use any phones Internet browser - PDA's are better and send SMS anywhere - you can also sync your contacts emails and calender to any windows mobile device - pretty cool and the trial is free and a few bucks after that.
- uptonm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0i wonder if skyping that number to get free international calls would work? then the call would also be completely free without a cell phone! for another month anyways, free skype long distance in the US lasts until 2007. Someone try and reply! I don't have an international number handy, or else I would myself.
- arostad, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I just tried the googl thing and it's been 10 min. with no reply..
