- adgridwork, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Hey all, Nick here from adgridwork. Noticed about an hour ago that we were getting traffic from Digg and followed the link to see that we were being Dugg! Quite a suprise seeing as we havent even officially launched out product yet :)
Anyways, to clear some things up. The reason why the ads are not targetted YET is that we dont have very many users in the network and therefore its tough to target based on such a small community. We will be working on promoting our site in the coming days so hopefully more niche blogs and sites will join and thus the network will be better populated. If you like the service, help us out and spread the word.
Also, there was a small glitch in our server that prevented us from redirected to the ad pages (as mentioned by unrepented above). We fixed this so everything should be working fine.
Expect more updates in the next couple of days when we officially launch the service. Hope you like :) - siebelizer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Looks just like Google Adwords but free :)
- adgridwork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Hey unrepented - thanks for pointing this out. We fixed it so everything should be working :)
- Mesum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That's a really nice, new and fresh idea.
I mean who has ever heard of such thing called "webrings"? - coreyb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Right... free. But how does the company actually make money?! I mean someone has to pay for the the developers, bandwidth, servers, etc. No one works for free.
I would be willing to spend, say a monthly fee, for a service like this, but 'free' tells me this is not going to be around for long. - unrepented, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6not half bad. it took me less then 3 mins to remove the Google Adsense Ads on my blog and replace it with AdGrid. See

This Remind of me of BannerExchange service from about 8 yrs back. But this way more cool. setup is definitely easy.
One major drawback is that unlike adsense the Ads that it displays are not relevant to your content. So now getting the people to click on the Ads is next to impossible. If people "ignore" relevant Ads, I don't know what they will do with irrelevant Ads .....
Any thoughts?
I am still hoping that Google will start a Ad exchange program similar to this, but with relevant Ads. Maybe Adgrid will server as a catalyst to make that happen. - tj9991, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hah, well I guess that gives me an idea of just how small of a network they have. I visited your site, and the far left ad was for my site.
- unrepented, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4awesome. but one question though. how do you place content relevant Ads? I know Google caches the pages and the metadata of each we page, so it is easy for them. I am sure you are not caching all the web pages in your network. So I am not sure how you will publish content relevant Ads....???
- adgridwork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hey Steve -
The point of our service is not to make any money, rather to help spread the word about your own website. We essentially combine the concepts of Google Adwords and Adsense to help websites advertise their product or content without spending any money. - geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4they don't target contextually yet so yes you are allowed.
- vault, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think you mean Adsense. Adwords is the PPC bidding engine, Adsense is the publisher program for displaying contextual ads on your sites.
- RonaldLewis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Seeing this is a lot better than some of the crap that does make the front page.
- unrepented, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3hey this doesn't even work. try clicking on any Ads on the my blog:
http://www.xml-dev.com/blog/index.php?action=viewtopic&id=258
it just displays a blank page with the mediagridwork.com URL. e.g.
http://www.mediagridwork.com/a.php?t=44&s=68&u=http://monster.com - tj9991, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This whole "Internet" thing is getting really old.
Can't anyone come up with something new? - JeremyL, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10Why the hell did this get Dugg. Nothing but a banner exchange and they have been around since the internet started. Nothing new and a waste of time.
- adgridwork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hey unrepented - Right now we are using the categories/subcategories and keywords in order to direct targeted ads to your page. We have plans on implementing a spider to crawl our network of sites and further refine the level of targeting, but we havent yet start that. Like mentioned earlier, because we are just starting out, if no closely related sites are on the network, then it will be awfully hard to serve relevant, targeted ads. As the service grows and more networks sign up, expect to see better targeted ads and content.
- rogeclar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ya I just signed up and everything seems to be working smoothly...Hopefully this will bring in some visitors to my blog :)
- ZPWeeks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2First? Hell no!
Anybody remember LinkExchange? Those guys are OLD.
(not that they were first, either.) - unrepented, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2awesome. It has been fixed now. The Nick comment below or above :) me a happy camper now.....
- javaisfun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Just visited the site...looks alright (layout reminds me of del.icio.us) but I think that they need to get enough websites on their before the users will benefit from the exposure. Neat idea though.
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@itisme
Can you show me a single news site that does not run advertising? Don't say Google News either as that is just an aggregator and not a news site.
Your argument can not carry any water. - rexb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i like the idea
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This was done with linkexchange a long long time ago...
- itisme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you know some comments are redundant, websites are an old idea
- KOSmurfy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Banner exchanges are a very old idea, as others have already said. Banner Exchanges are only good for the owner of the banner exange... and the cheaters if they're allowed to prosper.
Good luck, but I'll be surprised if it's more effective than the other million lame banenr exchanges around. - tj9991, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just a pair of small comments, but your character limit for the two lines is too long for preventing a line break, and also I'd like to suggest an option to have the "Advertise on This Site For FREE" message appear under the border, still right justified.
I just think the adblock would look prettier if the boxes were all the same size :) - adgridwork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@HaltingPoint:
We do not make money off of this service. We are just doing this in our spare time to see if our idea was plausible. We are financing this ourselves, and we have absolutely no intention of ever charging to have your ads placed in the network. We are dedicated to our vision, which was to have a free advertising mechanism for sites that didn't want to or couldn't afford to pay for ads. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ javaisfun : Getting dugg should that care of that for the moment.
- nevetS, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It's far from the first, and far from free.
Look to Shawn Hogan at Digital Point (http://www.digitalpoint.com) for the strongest free advertising network. I don't know if he was the first, but there have been a lot of copycats that have come along since he put his together.
Not a terrible idea though, and not a terrible implementation - I just wanted to point that out. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's a good idea. Sounds like something google will want to buy in a few months..
- HaltingPoint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nick,
One big question I have is how do YOU guys make money? Due to all of the scammers on the web, I have a hard time trusting the new kid on the block saying I can advertise on their network for free (nothing personal). So can you please explain your business model so that we can feel comfortable that you are legit? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the idea too, I've joined to test it out.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks to both of you. Looks like a great service, and I hope it really takes off.
- tj9991, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd imagine that these sites are run by people with at least two websites, one of which serves ads, the other is the one set to be advertised.
I have ads displaying on one of my sites which hasn't received more than two clicks from AdSense, and it points to my other site, which I would like to get the word out for, but also receives more clicks on the banners. - HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if this conflicts with AdSense?
- Soulhuntre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The first? Hardly. This idea is old, old, old. Nice to see ti revisited though.
- adgridwork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey nikoniko -
I mentioned in my first comment, that we werent planning on officially launching our product for a couple of days (you can see the news post at the top of the page saying we are still testing, as well). Thus, we put some links to sites in to seed the network for testing purposes. Well be removing them within the next hour to clear up any confusion :) - pofecks, on 03/23/2008, -0/+0I use adgridwork for my free advertising forum, works well, most of the hits I get end with a new signup.

- diggtester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Seems like a really old idea invented many times over...so not sure what the big fuss is about?...and there are tons of services out there...been using a service http://www.adleaf.com myself for my blog and it serves as both my free advertising service and web stats.
- adgridwork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@speedypop:
When you register a site with our network, we allow you to specify competitor sites, and ads for those sites will not be displayed on your network. So if you see an ad for a company that you don't want your users seeing, simply log in and label it a competitor and it will be blocked from your site. - speedyop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@adgridwork: sweet!
- Freakinweirdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have seen this done before, but still a somewhat good idea if you want adds without paying.
as for how do they make money, anyone think they use it as a portal for spyware? - ELITEELECTRONIX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The service looks great! We added it to our website www.elite-electronix. It looks pretty clean. So hopefully this service floureshes to become a great success!
- mediasl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds like my idea, "Freewords", I posted back in August on my "web 2.0 ideas" site
http://www.flucid.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=515 - adgridwork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@Declin:
That is a known bug, and it should be fixed in the upgrades we are going to roll out tonight. So by tomorrow that should be fixed (there could be some old ads that were created too long that we will have to go back and fix manually, so be patient if there's any stragglers). Sorry this wasn't caught earlier. Also, as soon as your site is displaying ads your ad will be displayed on the other sites around the network. So it is only a matter of time before somebody sees your ad and clicks on it. - vitiligo0, on 04/04/2009, -0/+0Today's the world is returning towards natural way of curing due to the harmful effects of today's chemical & synthetic medicines.
