- bort, on 10/12/2007, -0/+54How is this fear mongering? This is real reporting. They had reason to believe the police were acting improperly and they put their asses on the line to expose it.
Exposing the abuse of power; This is EXACTLY what the news media is supposed to be doing. - Havs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41Link to the original story that caused this retaliation. Watch the video to see just how pathetic some of these cops behave.
http://cbs4.com/topstories/local_story_033170755.html - twollamalove, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41If you can't believe police would act like that, you've obviously never talked to an officer of the law. I've been arrested for not talking with an officer when I was asked to do so. I shook my head, walked away, and was thrown to the ground and cuffed. This was a college town, and I was stone cold sober. The officer then said "you wanna play games, cops always win". I mean where do you think you are? Europe? This is America man, and the police are the last cowboys.
- pr0t3st, on 10/12/2007, -1/+40I remember those episodes and I must say, every officer in those episodes along with anyone like them should be locked up for a long time.
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38I went to college with cops from Broward, and the FHP. Of the ones I knew while they were going to school/academy, (4 or 5), they were all hypocritical *****. Giving people tickets for speeding then driving home at 100mph with the lights on so they didn't miss wrestling.. you know the kind of crap I'm talking about. It was pathetic.
- mike1979, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35I'm sure being a cop is a tough job, but seriously, this is beyond scary...
Lets hope CBS sues them to hell and back... Is there any case law out there that matches these circumstances? - scrubadub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30and some embarrassing video

http://cbs4.com/video/?id=14698@wfor.dayport.com&cid=8 - logic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Keeping law enforcement from running amok seems like a pretty good use of my taxes. You don't have to imagine the alternative.
- Anth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28We just had a case in NV where we had an Highway Patrol Trooper speeding at 115mph on a 75mph highway with no lights or sirens and rear-ended and killed four hispanics traveling at 55mph. He was hurrying home for an online history test he had to have done by midnight.
- jizzmaster0, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30I'm pro-Police, but there needs to be a BIG purge of ***** in all police and sheriff departments and other law enforcement agencies. The best way to do that is to treat the police as professionals. Their unions should be desolved, they should ALL should be required to have a bachelor degree or better, and their pay and benefits should be premium.
You get what you pay for. Demand high standards and offer high pay in addition to good benefits and you'll get a higher quality person joining the police force. People like firemen, police, and teachers should be getting some of the best pay in any industry... when you don't pay well, then you get unionization and you get more people that aren't qualified to do anything else. Both of my parents are high school teachers... they do it because they love it and they live in a fairly rural area so there aren't a lot of high-paying tech jobs and they hate the unions because they defend ***** teachers that should be fired and they don't do anything meaningful to raise the quality of education. - gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30Such pathetic cops... I'd cross them just to see what they'd do to me.
- C0MF0RTABLYnumb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26I live in Florida (Broward County) and Cops here are punks, they think they can do anything they want and if you try to do anything about it they make it look like they are the victims.
- valenciastudent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Don't ***** with the florida cops, I have a criminal record because I wouldn't let them in my house without a warrant. They said I was "resisting an officer without violence". Awesome law.

- pwrstick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22What's really funny to me about this story is how out of touch the police department is with the power of the web.
I mean, what was the department thinking? They're drawing exponentially negative press to themselves because of this. - MisterKen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I would also like to point out that their contact page has no verification scripts at all.

let the Digg effect begin... - nlatimer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Perhaps in the interest of fairness we should find a way to list the names and personal information of all the officers who work for this county.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25welcome to fascism. enjoy you're stay......or else
- skelman, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25Maybe the reporter should simply go to the precinct and ask to file a complaint against an officer. I hear that process is easy to do...
- MisterKen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19I have to say that I agree with you about bad journalism. Reporters have 'tabloid' injected in their veins. If they can go for sensational, they will.
However, if you watch the original story, this is a case of documentary like reporting. The police officers do a fine job of damning themselves without any help or encouragement. I'm glad that reporting like this still happens. Everyone should see this. We're becoming a country where, I think, we have given the police too much respect. In turn, they are taking the law into their own hands and acting like they are not to be questioned. That is dangerous. - KyleRayner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Why doesnt CBS fight back? CBS could do a lot more damage to these local jabroni pigs than they could ever do to CBS.
- spiderland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Sad thing is that this makes people distrust honest cops as well. Way to represent, Broward Police Department.
Any cops or public servants that abuse their power should immediately be terminated from their positions, no questions asked. - GLSmyth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Alas, this is not unique. A friend of mine was put on the terrorist watch list because he insulted a cop in D.C. I wonder if the real bad guys will get away while they investigate my friend.
- bobonot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Those of you who haven't lived down here may find it hard to understand how the good ole boy system of the badge and gun work. I don't find it surprising that they realiated... just that anyone heard about the retaliation!
- Lacero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Talk about power trips. Stupid too.
- n8han, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18"I can't believe police would act like that."
Chubby cop in the video reminded me of every cop I've been unlucky enough to have to talk to, just worse.

Let's give 'em a little taste of digg effect >: - socokoolaid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I think there are quite a bit more than a few bad apples. I think corruption has a firm seat in the police and legal systems of most areas. No one is policing the police.

Give him a call and tell him what you think of the situation. Better yet, stop on by and say hi! Make sure you do it from the public sidewalk though, or this nut job is liable to shoot you.
Here's the resources I used to find what I believe is the correct person. Please correct me if I'm wrong. There were a couple Richard L Brickman's listed, so one of them might be the wrong one. But this isn't a deep investigative report is it? This is digg, we shoot first and ask questions later (just like the Florida police no doubt)! If there's a couple innocent bystanders in our path so be it!

That video is actually quite scary.
This should have a lot of light shed on it. - 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17cawpin, you are STILL an idiot!
- panique, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17No, you weren't watching closely. The cops never answered his question. They made the appearance of an answer by saying "you've got to talk to me", but never said "no, we don't have a form". To me, that is someone who is trying to run a game and maintain plausible deniability, and would also lead me to believe there indeed is a form, but the cop was simply trying to keep the complaint off the record books.
"trying to report for a friend who wants to remain anonymous", yeah right. The first couple of cops would have said something like "Well, sir, that's hearsay which you are now making yourself a party to and exposing yourself to all kinds of legal problems. I can only take the report verbally from the person making the complaint".
I guess it requires a few more than 100 IQ points to figure any of this out.
And it is never OK for a cop to say "take one more step forward and see what happens". That's the talk of someone trying to pick a fight. - abstraxion, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Note to self: Never, ever go to Florida. Ever.
- scrubadub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15oh forgot the link to the organization that helped channel 4 do their investigation. they have some good video on their site also
http://www.policeabuse.org/ - soulsizzle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Simply terminating from their position any officer that abuses their power is not enough. Being in a position of trust, power, and responsibility should require a much harsher punishment should that trust be violated. I'm all for public stoning, but that's just me.
- rabiddogma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Reporters do tabloid journalism because it's what gets the highest ratings--and makes the most money.
But this isn't the case here, this is good solid local reporting. - feylanks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14it wouldn't be permissible for a cop to ever get "pissed off" in any kind of situation, or even worse to threaten citizens with a gun.

BOLO
(Updated March 17, 2006)
Channel 4 News is doing a series on the complaint process at police departments in Dade
and Broward. They are setting up officers and instigating confrontations, then filing
complaints with the various agencies.
Here’s how it works: A white male in a red Mustang convertible will speed down the
road. Later, the same car, this time with a black male driving, will appear in the same
area driving slowly. If the car is pulled over by the police, the occupant will become
hostile and accuse the officer of profiling, trying to pick a fight. If the officer responds
negatively, a complaint is filed with his/her department.
They are currently back out on the street. The station plans to air a follow-up report for
the May sweeps period.
Vehicle Description (the car may now be different):
Newer model Ford Mustang convertible, red with a black top. Tag #Q70DVR
Driver(s):

- jk7195, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I doubt if Hitler had a compaint form either.......
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13wahaha you are an idiot judogti, you obviously haven't watched any of the video or had a crappy encounter with the fuzz
- hfx392, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Very disturbing. I hope the exposure continues to increase.
- ironbear, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Mostly, I think cops are the good guys with significant exceptions. I think back on an incident where I was stopped and almost ticketed in a remote area even though I was going under the lawful speed limit. The cop became abusive until he spotted the flashing record light on a camcorder on the seat next to me, and ended up backing off. Saved by video. I highly recommend it, wherever you go.
- ctheory, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Florida law states that you have to have these forms. All precints, all counties.
- bluehouse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13To Protect and Serve? Maybe themselves. Cops like these need to be fired. It's these few bad apples that sours us to the rest of them.
- panique, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Digg this, here's their contact form: http://www.bcpba.homestead.com/ContactUs.html
- j0ew00ds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12The basis of our country is checks and balances. If its the press doing the 'checking', all the greater. They have the capability of putting violations into the public eye. Don't get me wrong, i dislike the current state of the media as much as the next guy, but you can't go wrong with undercover exposes.
- Silentshadow900, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13When I lived in broward county, the police there were freaking horrible. Maybe even racist.
