Stop being so cynical, not everyone has access the luxary of having a TV and not everyone has seen every news cast. its a good snapshot of whats been going on
Nice digg - SilverRocket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Most photos are Television and web(?!?!) image captures, though there are a couple live ones. CBC Canada is showing footage from the inside of a subway train taken via a Video-capable cellphone. Now the task is photographing these m*thaf*ckers before the carnage occurs.
- Sco0t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's pretty amazing how London's society has changed after an event like this, it's making more people paranoid and wary, which of course isn't the way you should live. As you shouldn't be scared to go on public transport which probably a lot of people are now, its a sad time..
- dudeman2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0not that im saying we need to nuke them, butwe need to do something drastic. A lot of countries in europe are trying to ignore it, and its obvoisly not working. With these kind of attacks and with this type of fighting force, typically warfare does not apply. This organization needs to be taken out at the heart of the problem. That is the ONLY way to stop this, and the only way to prevent civilian casualties. Im open to any other suggestions though...

http://flickr.com/photos/tags/terrorist/ - DrShalafi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where did I imply that you advocoate murder? You stated "...the killing of pro-choice doctors by anti-abortionists is an atrocity as well, but the crimes committed in the name of Islam go much further." I then asked "How much further than murder can you go?"
And if you think that 'only' people of Islamic faith are committing murder you are sadly deluded. - ajb2015, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"The terrorists...the terrorists...". Tools.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow. Very quick response to these events. These photos also give us a different perspective on the attacks
- gab00n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These terrorists are lucky I'm not president Bush, i would have nuked the entire middle east years ago. If you can't get along with society then ***** off to hell you bastards.
- xalen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To look on the bright side of all this, it's wonderful to see how far digg has progressed from a purely tech hub to covering the world's current events
- cyberscape2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We haven't had more terrorist attacks against us because we retaliated. That doesn't even make sense. This group wants us dead. Is that difficult to grasp? Whether we sit and do nothing or struggle makes no difference to them. They want us all to die. I think war is a horrible thing. I think it should be a worst-case scenario choice to go to war, and we jumped the gun a good deal in Iraq. But Iraq was not a new war. Afghanistan was not a new war. This war began with the Cole.
- jmccorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All those pictures and not one TARDIS.
Something very fishy, indeed. - lpi408, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I find it Ironic that you think I advocate murder when in the Koran it says to kill all infidels, and the only ones who are doing the killing are Muslims. When you protect yourself from those who are trying to kill you it is not murder it is called self-defense. We have asked the Muslim nations and community for help to put a stop to terrorism and little or nothing is done or worse they aid and support the terrorist. What do you suggest we do when after terrorist attacks Muslims celebrate in the streets? When terrorist kills in the name of Islam and Muslims do nothing to prevent it they too have blood on their hands.
People are feed up and if it takes having to bomb every mosque or reducing Mecca to dust to put a stop to terrorism then so be it. It is time for people see Islam for what it truly is - digit9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is just sad. One side of me agrees with gab00n and the other side of me says to enlist an army of educators and send them to the middle east.
Anyway, my heart and prayers go out to our friends in London. - DrShalafi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How much further than murder can you go?
- lpi408, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Londoners, my condolences, I am sorry for your lose ...
At the risk of sounding ignorant as well, on an emotional level I have to agree with gab00n. I have to wonder just really how much of a lose it would be if we nuked the whole Middle East and divide the regions oil equally amongst the world. There is no place for Islam in the civilized world. Why give Islam legitimacy, it is time to “call a spade a spade, Islam is nothing more than a barbaric, backwards religion that like a cancer needs to be cut out. To nuke the Middle East would be synonymous too flushing the toilet. It is time to play hardball and fight terrorism with terror. We have to remember that it is Islam that has declared war on the world and we need to hold all of Islam accountable
I know this sounds harsh and barbaric as well and I can’t help myself from feeling this way, and I guess in that lies the real fear, that in your anger and rage you become more like your enemy.
But at the very least we should close the worlds borders to all Muslims, if you want to live in our countries it is you who has to adapt to our way of life not the other way around. Islam is contrary to civilization. In reality what has Islam contributed to civilization, nothing of any importance, they have literally not progressed since the 7th century. How can we expect Muslims to get along with the rest of the world when they can’t even get along with themselves.
You really can’t fault people when they say “nuke them because it is a very understandable response to problem that has no right answer. You either nuke them before they nuke us or you isolate them… I will let someone else make that decision because at the moment I am not feeling very generous. - rookieone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man when will this ever end?!?!?!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"funny?? WTF is worng with you people. In case you dont actually find out what is going on in the world, 1000 people and up were injured. This is a major terrorist attack. Mabey now, they will stand behind tony blair and his support against terrorism world wide. Look what happened in spain, the terrorists are trying it all over europe. How many attacks on america have we seen since 9/11. Why? Because we retalliated."
What?
Why do people have this wrong idea that the amount of terrorism has gone down? They effectively did what they wanted to do--this has nothing to with how many successive times they did it. Besides, about a year ago, at the peak of these 'low terrorism' accusations, there was an article in the new york times (OH NO, THEY MUST BE LYING!) about how global terrorism has actually GONE UP. The US is not the center of the universe, people, even though it wants to be.
Look at what happened in Spain? Where do you people get your foreign policy news? Terrorism has been all over Europe for DECADES...longer, and just now since terrorism is the US buzzword you have the gall to pretend you have some sort of authority about what happened in Europe?
Becuase we RETALIATED? There's an old political cartoon: "the attackers were from here...*points at afghanistan*...so we will attack here...*points at iraq*" Retaliated. What *****. What kind of fake nationalistic patriotism do you endorse? So much so that it blinds you from any possible truth?
Tony Blair still helped Bush in the slaughter that is Iraq and that doesn't make him exempt. Just because he's doing what any politican would do right now--give his condolences, does not absolve his guilt from anything.
I'm so sick of ten-year old politics. Because these ten-year olds grow into adults and they keep their solidified views based on absolutely NOTHING: and they're the people who elect bush.
about the actual ATTACK: horrible. it's amazing people have gotten the photos up so quickly. - 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder what an event like this will be like in a couple years when countries besides Korea get cheap phones with very high quality cameras. It'll be much easier to get around the media circus and the posturing to see the human side of the tragedy.
- lpi408, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0“DrShalafi, how can you even suggest we negotiate with terrorist? Negotiation involves compromise and there can be no compromise. A compromise with radical Islamic extremist means nothing less than turning ones back on civilization and 2000 years of evolution and progress.
It is a crime that Muslims don’t do more to combat radical Islam as it has a dramatic affect on how people view all Muslims in general. And if that does not scare Muslims I ask them to consider the possibilities and all one has to do is look to the horrors committed by the Serbs as an example of people frustration. By remaining silent is a reflection on all Muslims and gives the impression of their support for Radical Islamic Ideals. The roots of Radical Fundamentalism grew from the gardens of Islam, I suggest that Muslims tend to their garden !!!! - DrShalafi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think collections like this need to happen, people need to see the aftermath of such desctruction. A reminder of what can occur when dialogues are closed ["We will not negotiate with terrorists."] and extreme religious ideals are embraced ["Jihad to America."]. There is no easy solution, however these two extremes are currently making our lives really, REALLY, crappy.
- lpi408, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DrShalafi - I do not need to reacquaint myself with Muslim history, I am fully aware and have appreciation of the Muslim contributions to Western society, there were contributions in mathematics, architecture, and elementary medicine but those contributions ended with the Middle Ages. I argue that the advances modern societies have made were achieved not because of any Muslim contributions as you suggest but in spit of Muslims best efforts to halt the advancement of civilized societies. How can you have advancement without freethinking and the exchange of ideas? Islam is the most repressive, restrictive, and barbaric religions I can think of. And yes early Christian societies were equally as guiltily, but to their credit they and others have continued to evolve. To see just how far Muslims have advanced in 2000 years all you have to do is look too how Islam views and treats women in their society, women in Islamic society have no rights what so ever, women are treated as possessions, to be used and abused at will as if they were less than human, Hell woman can’t even walk through the streets without begin escorted and having their faces covered for fear of retribution. And that is just a single example of the many Islamic ideals that can be only classified as barbaric.
Yes in general Muslims have made contribution to society, but those contributions died with the Middle Ages. It was not until after World War II that the British helped bring about change to the Middle East by bringing the different tribes together to form nations. And it was with the British and US’s help that oil was discovered and with that one single discovery all the advances the Middle East enjoys today.
Please name me any 20th century or modern advancement that can be attributed to Islam or Muslims. You may have modern conveniences (all courtesy of the west I might add), but it is safe to say that Muslims stopped advancing long ago, and that can only be attributed to the restrictions imposed by the Islamic religion. Being a little Sarcastic and using your example, yes if it were not for the West you more likely than not would be wondering aimlessly through the deserts of the Sahara, drinking camel’s milk, eating figs and no doubt warring with one another.
So I say to all Muslims let go of the past, abandon Islam and join the 21th century, God knows you will have more fun… In fact if we did away with all religions this world might be a much safer and better place to live, just consider all the atrocities committed in the name of religion. And yes DrShalafi, the killing of pro-choice doctors by anti-abortionists is an atrocity as well, but the crimes committed in the name of Islam go much further.
p.s. And we are still waiting for our Thank You and a little recognition for all we have done to helps Muslims !! - DrShalafi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 lpi408 - Saying that I suggested we should negotiate with terrorists is like saying I suggested we should start a holy war with America. The examples are the two extremes. When dialogue is cut off people feel a need to perform extreme acts i.e. A child may run away from home if they can't talk to their parents, another example would be Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland. A terrorist is only a terrorist after they perform the act. Dialogue can help prevent these atrocities. The IRA gained a voice, and whilst things are far from ideal, people are at less risk of being blown apart by IRA bombs, than they were ten or fifteen years ago. If a bank robber takes people hostage, would you say "Don't talk to them!". Most likely a negotiator would be brought in to aid in the hostages release. That is dialogue.
- DrShalafi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why do people continuously try to 'read between the lines'?
TERRORISTS SHOULD PAY THE PRICE FOR THE OFFENCES THEY COMMIT!
Dialogue needs to be maintained to aid in the prevention of people BECOMING terrorists. America has 'open dialogue' with numerous contries, that does not mean they are heeding thir concerns. When people feel that they are not being heard they do extreme things. There will always be people who hold extremist views and are willing to blow themselves up at the drop of a hat.
It is as much up to the Muslim communty to stop Islamist extremists as it is for the Christian community to stop anti-abortionists killing pro-choice doctors.
Bringing Muslim nations out of the 7th Century? Of Course! With the Christian western nations people of Islamic faith would all be riding camels and living in yurts camped oases in the middle of the Sahara. Perhaps you should reaquaint yourself with the history of Muslim contributions to Western society. - lpi408, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DrShalafi - I can’t fallow your logic in trying to associate dealing with a child running away or a bank robber taking hostages to dealing with Terrorists? You can’t make the agreement that we are not listening to Muslims because we are in fact dealing with and are in open dialogue with many Muslim nations, the Muslim extremist just don’t like what is being said. History is a powerful tool that can help avoid repeating past mistakes. History tells us that as the world attempted to negotiate with Hitler the Nazi’s grew stronger and stronger and the end result was tens of millions of people being killed. The lesson to be learned is simple, we must recognize evil early on and to have the courage and foresight to destroy when found.
While I agree it is important to establish a dialogue as it leads to understanding which can only aid in solving most problems, but how can you reason with Muslim extremists when the only thing they desire is the death of Western civilization ..AND AT WHAT POINT ARE WE ALLOWED TO DEFEND OURSELVES?
Furthermore, when is the Muslim community going to give the West credit for all we have done for them? We have opened our borders to them and allowed to live freely in our countries, when they have arrived we cared for them through our social programs, we have allowed them to practice their religion and customs without restraint, we have educated them and given them jobs, we have allowed them the freedoms to do practically anything they desire…all of which are things that they could not do in their own countries.
Additionally, how many times have we have come to the aid of Muslim nations in times of crisis whether from famine, naturally disasters, or in times of war. What's more we assisted Muslim nation developement and brought them out of the 7th century and into the 21th century by sharing our technologies and all we have learned through years of our own development. There is so much more we have done to help Muslims all across this globe, so the question I have is…..
!!! Where in the F*ck is their g*ddamm Thank You? !!!!
There is a debt to be repaid and we are calling in their marker. It is up to the Muslim community to put a stop these terrorist and if they don’t we reserve the right to defend ourselves in any manner of our choosing. I like most all westerns are a kind, caring, and generous people, but enough is enough, and make no mistake about it when push comes to shove we can and will defend ourselves, and if we choose to do so we will look back with little regret.
Time is ticking, and if these terrorist acts continue there will come a time when our patients wears out, and if that day comes all I can say is the Muslim community had better be very afraid… - dknighton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DrShalafi, I don't usually use such broad generalizations, but you are a stupid ass. You DID suggest we negotiate with terrorists. Go re-read your own statement and stop trying to back away from it.
Terrorists are so named for a reason...the TERRORIZE people (as PM Blair said so eloquently). You approach this from the perspective that these absolute pieces of human excrement wish or have the psychological capacity to negotiate. They are interested in nothing less than the extinction of Western Civilization!
Make no mistake...this is a WAR. We are at war for our very way of life. The most liberal among us sit in comfort and expound upon how "enlightened" we are for considering all sides of this conflict, all the while totally oblivious to the fact that one of the sides you are considering seeks to destroy even you and your "high ideals."
There is no compromise with terrorists. They will not stop until they are dead, or until they have eradicated Western society from the face of the earth. THEY are the ones who should be compared to Hitler and the Nazis.
To that end, I support the efforts by our country and our allies to search every cave and every spider-hole until the last of these murdering bastards are dead. - DrShalafi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dknighton - No I did not say we should negotiate with terrorists. In fact I think that terrorists should be punished to the full extent of the law. Do you believe that Sinn Fein should not be talked to because they have strong links to the IRA? Various political leaders in the new Iraqi government have VERY strong ties to al-quaeda and their various offshoots. Should these people be ignored? There IS room for dialogue, and if it prevents even one person from crossing that line from angry young man to suicide bomber on a packed commuter train, that can only be good.

Reporter- So in the news today a meteor is about to crash into the earth.
Stupid conspiracy theorist liberal- I bet George Bush did it somehow.
Come on. Bush is not the one performing terrorist attacks. He is not trying to kill our own people. He is not responsible for the terrorist attacks that have happened. Why don't people like you just accept we are fighting against a real enemy? Real people who want us dead. It is preposterous how people try to lay blame on Bush like he is Ben Laden. Poor people huh? Conditioned to actually feel for other people. Liberals are supposed to be caring I thought. Don't you care for anybody except yourself? It is okay to feel anything about politics, there are a lot of things I don't like about Bush, but it is not okay to spread lies that have no basis on truth and it is not humane to not give a damn at all about anyone else in the world. Maybe if someone you loves someday dies in a terrorist attack you will feel different. I hope that doesn't happen though, because I actually do NOT want to see people die for no reason.
