- rilo, on 03/23/2008, -7/+102Although I don't agree with Geert Wilders view, I think it is outrageous that Network Solutions suspended the website www.fitnathemovie.com. All that was hosted was a picture of the Koran and a notice of the movie "coming soon", there wasn't anything online that would violate the acceptable use policy.
It seems that Network Solution is extremely biased, and they can put a site offline if they just have the slightest feeling it wouldn't fit their bill.
Especially, this part of their policy shows that they are more acting on a gut-feeling than solid proof that a website would violate their terms:
"You understand that we reserve the right to conclude that your conduct is in violation of the standards set forth in this Acceptable Use Policy, and we may arrive at such a conclusion even if it is based upon our opinion or mere suspicion or belief, without any duty to prove that our opinion or suspicion is well founded, and even if (i) our opinion or suspicion is proven not to be well founded or (ii) we provide other customers services that have similar characteristics or are being used in a similar manner as your services." - AlexBellisBrown, on 03/23/2008, -6/+68Whatever happened to free speech? If someone says something you dont like, call him a dick and get on with your life!
- Nidy1, on 03/23/2008, -8/+58"Iran has threatened to review its diplomatic stance with The Netherlands, should the film be aired." (from Wikipedia and http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,324406,00.html ... Not the most loved sources by diggers, but still).
This makes me sick and disgusts me that a country would value religion so much that a 15 minute film made by someone about a religion incites backlash against that country that hes from. There is something seriously wrong with this world. - ArrakisDune, on 03/23/2008, -1/+45Talk about giving them free publicity....
I'd not even heard about it until this. - Canonet, on 03/23/2008, -12/+49"The Dutch government has distanced itself from Wilders' views, fearing a backlash against the country in the Muslim world"
It irks me so much that countries, governments and major businesses are so terrified of upsetting muslims.
If i ever wanted to be rich, i would move over to Pakistan or some other backwards, wife-beating, call-centre owning muslim country and start a 'Flag and effigy' shop. That way when anyone else in the world says anything that is in anyway insulting to islam they can take to the streets in their thousands waving AK-47's whilst burning said flags and effigies whilst hitting them with their sandals, rather than being diplomatic about it.
Remember the Richard Gere incident? they need to get over themselves and start acting more diplomatic. Whilst they act like petulant children they will never be respected. Not by me at any-rate. - SaladCactusKing, on 03/23/2008, -5/+41Network Solutions hosts the terrorist group Hezbollah's English site

Double standards in hatred and fear? Whoda thunk? - thewebguy, on 03/23/2008, -4/+38everyone knows Network Solution sucks and steals domains
- PL3NTY, on 03/23/2008, -1/+33The film will be leaked to BitTorrent
- dsenman, on 03/23/2008, -3/+33Network Solutions should know better. *should* being the key word. Disappointing.
- swrostmore, on 03/23/2008, -17/+44Girt Wilder's plan for the Netherlands:
# a ban on Islamic headwear in in public functions,
# close all doors for asylum seekers,
# a maximum of 5000 political refugees,
# 5 year stop on brides of foreign countries,
# a dramatic tax decrease,
# decreasing number civil servants to 50%,
# stop on enlargement E.U.,
# five prisoners in one cell,
# build feeding camps and discipline schools,
# more police, and use of army within public zones,
# deport criminals with a dual nationality,
# ban on Islamic schools,
# test children on knowledge about national identity,
# administrative reorganisation of provinces and government,
# closing the Dutch Senate
Judging from this, I'd guess his movie's purpose is to scare people into fascism. - mike503, on 03/24/2008, -2/+26If you guys haven't realized it yet, Network Solutions is one of the worst most corrupt companies on the net. Do not let them have any control over your business if you're smart.
- Me1000, on 03/23/2008, -3/+26SHUT UP!
- Celeron, on 03/23/2008, -5/+26Uptight bastards.
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -4/+25For some reason this tactic is very characteristic of religious extremists.
On the censor-boat paltalk, any room that is at all critical of Islam is promptly shut down.
I wish there were a list of companies who have caved to ANY religion's intimidating over the years, so I could be sure not to use them. Sadly, this would probably be a very long list. - rockrapdude, on 03/23/2008, -0/+19Number of diggs != front page.
- dyslexicsUNTIED, on 03/23/2008, -10/+28I love how the thumbnail is of the KKK
- HyperJack, on 03/23/2008, -2/+20One day, one of these 'site suspened' articles should link directly to the suspended site. Just for kicks!
- OutrightLie, on 03/23/2008, -0/+16What scares me is that Network Solutions is one of the main Internet Registrars and Certificate authorities. If they take this type of stance against a website they host, what is going to prevent them from doing that against a website registered through them?
- NerveBand, on 03/23/2008, -9/+25I think the hosting was on Network Solutions so therefore, they technically can shut down the host at their will. Free speech doesn't come into play with private organizations. You have to follow their rules and their standards.
Whether it is right or not, Network Solutions can shut down the website as they please as they own the hosting services. - dtfinch, on 03/24/2008, -0/+14They have some strange ideas of what's acceptable use, for a company that hands your domain over to squatters if you try to transfer to another registrar.
- Roger, on 03/23/2008, -7/+21"they hate freedom"
Wow, someone was actually stupid enough to believe that. - 68024, on 03/23/2008, -13/+27I am Dutch too and I agree. Wilders is a nutcase who is just out to stir up a bees' nest for the sake of inciting hatred. I hope this is understood before non-Dutch people who don't really know the political context start commenting and harping on about 'freedom of speech'.
- SlvrEagle23, on 03/23/2008, -2/+15To turn your argument around, whether it's up to Network Solutions' discretion to shut the site down or not, doesn't mean we can't still judge whether it is right or not.
This is one of the redeeming qualities of capitalism: when one company starts becoming evil, we're supposed to punish that company by refusing to invest in it and changing to a competing product. Whether a company can technically get away with something evil isn't an issue, as it's still up to the people at large to hold companies to higher standards than the law alone. - Meccadeath, on 03/24/2008, -2/+14The very fact that you Dutch are scared that the muslims will retaliate kind of proves Geerts point doesnt it? Isnt islam a religion of peace? How many Anti Christian sites / movies are on the net? Islam is a death cult.
- kosai, on 03/23/2008, -2/+13I don't seem to remember the right to not be insulted written in any legal document. Geert might be an idiot but you should stand behind his right to say what he wants no matter how offensive. You should also support the (peaceful) reaction of the muslim world and be ready to denounce any violent reply.
- TheSwashbuckler, on 03/23/2008, -4/+15"Network Solutions can shut down the website as they please as they own the hosting services."
It depends. If they publish terms of service then they have to abide by those terms, otherwise it would be either breach of contract or fraud (or both). - PsychePsyche, on 03/23/2008, -0/+11Those aren't members of the KKK, they're members of the Order of Penitents, and that is their garb.

- Meccadeath, on 03/24/2008, -4/+15Just think what a wonderful world it would be without Islam.....
- dmcbride6, on 03/23/2008, -2/+12This will probably work in favor of the fitna guys...The exposure will equate to huge downloads.
- StanleyKoolPrik, on 03/23/2008, -2/+12Streisand Effect.
- kidcodea, on 03/23/2008, -7/+17yes, religion.
- roflcopters, on 03/24/2008, -0/+10It will be on the torrents soon enough.
- dbldwn, on 03/23/2008, -1/+10Epic. Fail.
- inactive, on 03/23/2008, -7/+16So you're saying his security detail should be removed and he should "face the music" as it were? Wow....
- jofukia, on 03/23/2008, -12/+21I am Dutch too, and I am terribly sorry that my country is populated with wimps like Dimbleby who don't have the guts to stand up for basic principles such as freedom of speech and the sanctity of life.
- PHiZ187, on 03/24/2008, -1/+10First WikiLeaks domain name registrar (eNom) suspended their domain, and now Network Solutions does this? Is there an offshore registrar that will stand up to bogus legal threats? Or a USA registrar that won't just roll over from bogus legal threats?
- vidar808, on 03/24/2008, -2/+11People all over the world say and publish negative things about various other traditions and there is not such a firestorm. Why such an issue when it is Islam? If this video is disagreeable people should just not watch it; period end of story; no press no interest. Instead it has turned into this huge issue as though he is doing some terrible, unique, crime!
This individuals is publishing his opinion, and if people disagree with his opinion, they should not waste their time with it. Those who desire to stifle free speech, are the ones that are turning this into something unique and inflammatory. In my opinion, it is they that are ones we should be at issue with. - MikeFallopian, on 03/24/2008, -5/+13Wilder is an *****, but censorship simply shouldn't be tolerated. What's really unfortunate is that, with all the hoopla about the Dutch government trying to block the film, it ends up being an American company taking a dump on free speech. Well played...
- prisoner24601, on 03/24/2008, -1/+9Some people have no concept of freedom of speech.
http://digg.com/world_news/Dutch_protesters_agains ... - timdorr, on 03/24/2008, -0/+8And what's to stop this guy from pointing his domain over to another host and being back online in a couple of hours? If you don't like the company hosting your site, get a new host. There are quite literally thousands of hosts out there. Many (including my own company) recognize the value of free speech and don't block content unless it's illegal.
- wattersm, on 03/23/2008, -2/+10It's pretty damn easy to change hosts, some will even move your site for you.
- coit, on 03/24/2008, -2/+10Anybody using Network Solutions as a host will get ***** at one point or another.
- inactive, on 03/24/2008, -0/+8Well it looks like Network solutions is hosting a Hezbolla site. I wonder what side they are on. http://avideditor.wordpress.com/2008/03/23/us-hizb ...
- jofukia, on 03/24/2008, -1/+9*****? Look who's talking.
You haven't even seen the movie, but already you judge it and rejoice at the censorship.
It's people like you who are captivated by fear, scared about what some extremist Muslims might do in retaliation.
And you go so far as to call for the removal of his security so that he can be killed, just like Pim Fortuyn and Theo van Gogh have already been murdered by extremists.
You are a sad person.
Kruip lekker terug in je hol eikel! - inactive, on 03/24/2008, -0/+8Well it looks like Network solutions is hosting a Hezbolla site. I wonder what side they are on. http://avideditor.wordpress.com/2008/03/23/us-hizb ...
- Sharky35, on 03/23/2008, -4/+12Well, I'm off to find a new host for my websites....
- artliquide, on 03/24/2008, -0/+8This is clearly not the reason for being shut down in this case:
"Geert Wilders planned to use to show his film critical of the Koran, said on Saturday that it had inactivated the site due to complaints."
and
"This site has been suspended while Network Solutions is investigating whether the site's content is in violation of the Network Solutions Acceptable Use Policy," the company said on the site www.fitnathemovie.com.
Note: "content" - rkuchiki, on 03/23/2008, -1/+8We see enough suspended pages when cheap sites exceed their bandwidth from the Digg effect.
