Facebook in 40 Years
mashable.com — A hilarious idea: a mockup of how Facebook will look in 40 years, once the younger generation is playing bingo and having hip operations. Take a close look at the mini-feed.
- 3100 diggs
- digg it
- chicagobiker, on 10/11/2007, -32/+4"Richard discussed his second hip operation in the Post-OP"
- PJBonoVox, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Yeah, I read it. Thanks.
- elcidcannon, on 11/14/2007, -1/+191And the "Funerals" photo album is priceless!
- 2point71, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1lawls. i saw that and i was like 'ohhhhhh...' oh damn... thats horrible. haha.
- Chazzer3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I think after being on Facebook there would be more than 6 photos of him as well. I was expecting on of the jokes to be, 'Photos of you (103,042)' or something... Funny nonetheless...!
- ccanni1028, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1"I was expecting on of the jokes to be, 'Photos of you (103,042)' or something"
That wouldn't be funny because some people have that now.
- ccanni1028, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1"I was expecting on of the jokes to be, 'Photos of you (103,042)' or something"
- n8dawg87, on 11/14/2007, -1/+120Hold up! You forgot the 'notify me when my friends die' app or the 'bingo game' app or the 'name the bluegrass' song app or the 'digg...my grave' app or the 'hot or not: grandma edition' app. So many damn apps!!!!!
- jull1234, on 11/14/2007, -1/+21You seem to forget that the old people of the future will be spinnin' 'classics' like Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Brittany Spears.
- macabaret, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9In 40 years the kids won't even understand the term "spinnin'"; it will be just one more way grandpa dates himself
- tomi, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Can't forget William Hung, just for kicks.
- jull1234, on 11/14/2007, -1/+21You seem to forget that the old people of the future will be spinnin' 'classics' like Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Brittany Spears.
- Mikecol, on 11/14/2007, -2/+214The site design didn't change very much in 40 years.
- thepuma77, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Web 2.0 forever baby!!! Or at least the next forty years.
- jus1haz2, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13ya and they will probably still have that weird corner.
- Falldog, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I thought, wow, they sure added a lot of ads at first, but then I realized it was the damn website.
- seanc6610, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3What are ads?
/Adblocker Plus =D
- seanc6610, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3What are ads?
- floydman, on 10/11/2007, -15/+0"is feeling a bit hypered after winning at Bingo" :)
well..Despite the fact that Facebook sounded like a great idea, but what do you think of this
http://www.ofuzi.com/2007/05/27/i-need-an-unstable-woman-for-a-drama-filled-relationship/- stacky, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I think that it was on digg a few weeks ago.
- mtheoryx83, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I think it has absolutely nothing to do with this article. Other than that, it's funny as hell.
- hbweb500, on 11/14/2007, -4/+81I feel bad now, because my profile is essentially the same thing just with younger pictures.
When will people realize that bingo is a sport for all ages?- akinser, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I didn't know bingo was a sport.
- akinser, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0I didn't know bingo was a sport.
- akinser, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0New comment system is flawed.
- reddevil3, on 10/11/2007, -11/+20Haha I love the photo album: "Funerals".
- ParmFarm, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1so true so true...its all the same thing with young and old
- nreynolds, on 10/11/2007, -14/+2December 13th is my birthday!!! woooo
- JeffreyAtW, on 10/11/2007, -5/+25Facebook keeps getting more and more personal - its users disclose more and more all the time. I thought Facebook in 40 years would at least show something that tracks where the person is at all times and shows exactly what they are doing at that moment. I mean, come on!
- airwalkery2k, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11It would also likely include a copy of your DNA so you could compare with friends, a full body scan, and biometrics.
- Speed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That may not be a bad idea for old people... That way you can find a sutible kidney donor.
- Pilgrim, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6They`ll have a GPS application that will interface with your cell phone, which will let people see where you are at all times.
- celotil, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I have that now on my cell phone, but I don't use it cause my life is rather boring. MGMaps on an N95.
- ZPWeeks, on 10/11/2007, -1/+41:24am: Jessica Winkelman and Alan Jones got crunk and ***** doggy-style.
- jawbreaker4fs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1sounds like a twitter app...
- airwalkery2k, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11It would also likely include a copy of your DNA so you could compare with friends, a full body scan, and biometrics.
- Autrix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17They should have changed the times of activity to around 5am until 9pm
also "Richard is at the post office" would have been great. - mzider, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17I sure hope I don't look like that when I am 64...didn't that dude look like he was in his 80's?
- upquark, on 10/11/2007, -15/+10I think I must have missed the part where that picture was funny.
- lastthingusee, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Yeah, pretty much.
- ziki, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1not much to say about this...let me just repeat what someone else said.
LOL this is funny, the funerals photo album! - Atomic1fire, on 10/11/2007, -1/+44your also forgeting the large text
as some seniors have poor eyesight- coollettuce, on 11/14/2007, -0/+8In the future we will have eye lenses by Nikon.
I hope... - nottanner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Y-o-u-'-r-e means you are. Y-o-u-r means your..
- daRoach, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7In the future your means you're.
- coollettuce, on 11/14/2007, -0/+8In the future we will have eye lenses by Nikon.
- simplejoe79, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1LOLZZZ reallly gooood......
- SilverBlade2k, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13I would think in 40 years, the internet will be completely 3D, almost like a virtual reality world, where one could choose a 'skin' like in some shooter games, and people could talk to eachother, shake eachother's hand, all in a 3D environment.
This would require V.R suits and glasses. Or it would be like the Holodeck in Star Trek...- thomashauk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1So like second life?
- MrSunshine, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Second Life?
- macabaret, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You're describing the plot of countless cyber-punk novels. Snowcrash and Otherworld immediately spring to mind (both awesome reads, by the by).
- patrickloggins, on 10/11/2007, -6/+9Who says we'll be playing bingo? Not every generation played bingo.
..still funny though.- prockcore, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Considering the popularity of that Friday Night Bingo thing on TV right now.. I'd say it was a good bet that bingo will be popular 40 years from now.
- carl689, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I was taught in gerontology that that generation has played Bingo there entire life. Most likely my generation will have Texas Hold'em , then that activity will be associated with old people.
- Philluminati, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1@ Prockencore.
How many adverts do you remember from 40 years ago?
- Philluminati, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1@ Prockencore.
- chuckmo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13oh boy! where can i find the "colestral" application?!?
- Wilson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Apparently 60 year old Facebook app makers can't spell :P
- mmortal03, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah, because I don't think they were meaning this: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r=2&q=colostral
- Wilson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Apparently 60 year old Facebook app makers can't spell :P
- StephanCom, on 11/14/2007, -2/+44Who only has 6 pix after 40 years?
- Theipolicy, on 10/11/2007, -8/+7Well that wasn't amusing at all. Oh hey look, old people are different than young people, let's point out those differences!
- Rabbethan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Well, that's comedy buddy. Black people do THIS! White people do thiiiis!
- DarkoKun, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Getting old is gonna suck :(
- ogbecker, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0amen, but you'll have budies along the way (Old buddies...)
- tomi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+121:34am? Hmm, that can't be right.
- sleepwalkers, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Of course it's right. They go to bed at about 5 PM and get up around 2-3 AM.
- awa1ct, on 10/11/2007, -10/+4Funny, yet I don't think Facebook will be around. AOL, yes. Facebook, no.
- CarIos, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Only 15 wall posts in 40 years?
- shockme17, on 10/11/2007, -10/+5uhh.. colesterol? how about cholesterol
- alamody, on 11/14/2007, -1/+15Where are the "Children in other networks" and "Grandchildren in other networks" sections?
- Chingmiester, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Ross Cumming's wall
- DanAtkinson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What's funny about that?
- ummagummas08, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2That is funny.
- Pheter, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18For the full size version:
http://www.creativebinge.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/oldfacebook_fullsize.gif - acid0426, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2I'm surprised interests don't include Hoover and Eisenhower.
- Jok3r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Why would it? We are talking about our generations. I would probably include hating bush and ect. ect.
- cdcarter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It is spelled etc... It is an abbreviation of the two latin words et cetera. ect doesn't even make sense.
- Jok3r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Why would it? We are talking about our generations. I would probably include hating bush and ect. ect.
- Justin6512, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7people on facebook sure age terribly over 40 years
- nhprm, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16Its amazing that everyone who does not think this is remotely creative or funny is being dugg down... They didn't change anything (vis a vis colleges being replaced possibly with retirement homes [or, frankly, anything funny] etc).. I thought it would be a mock indictment of the future, decline of internet, wot wot. That was LAME!
- nhprm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5In short, IT WASN'T EVEN PHOTOSHOP'D
- DanAtkinson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Apart from that it was Photoshopped. Well, put it this way... I'm pretty sure that I don't have an old man as my profile picture!
- nhprm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5In short, IT WASN'T EVEN PHOTOSHOP'D
- leomyhero, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5dumb
- DanAtkinson, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Lol! I'm glad that he got front page on this one!
- forensicmeteobo, on 10/11/2007, -5/+6There's so much more that could be done... plus the icons in the mini-feed aren't all correct.
Dugg Down: Lame. - thewoodman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Sorry but I think this pretty lame. I was expecting something a lot funnier and more creative.
- DanAtkinson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5You're more than welcome to submit something that you deem more creative.
- johimself, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2all it is is an old persons facebook page.
it isn't "facebook in 40 years"
Thewoodman wasn't claiming he can do better but that this is below average quality. The fact that people in these comments have thought up funnier stuff proves that.
- JoelCohen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Should of had old people's homes for networks
and could of also had a countdown app till "i get a new zimmerframe" - numeka, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Boring profile with no apps! Unless 40 years from now there's a raid from anti-apps people and threatened Facebook to put it back to old school design.
- MisterFlaut, on 10/11/2007, -6/+4The internet won't exist 40 years from now if we're on the verge of WW3. Duh.
- elsJake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4at least you'll have SkyNet
- MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4once again Mashable steals from the little guy http://www.creativebinge.co.uk/blog/what-will-facebook-look-like-in-40-years/
- chicagobiker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I'm pretty sure the point of Mashable is to help the little guy get noticed.
They have a link to the little guy at the bottom of the story.
Or are you one of those who's also against Boing Boing too?
- chicagobiker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I'm pretty sure the point of Mashable is to help the little guy get noticed.
- Gravey9, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Not to sound mean cause I think it was well done but it's really not that funny.
*closes eyes for burying* haha - richardstelmach, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Thanks for the comments all, and the diggs. I would say Facebook is just an example showing how at the moment the older generation don’t use the internet as much as our generation but in 40 years we’ll all still be using it and this could be quite a big cultural change and also transform the internet.
I realise the internet + sites could look very different in the future as I say I was mainly interested in the social change + I found it quite amusing!
I’m glad it’s being thought provoking / entertaining for you all!
Cheers,
Rich - comawhite1070, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Thats actually kind of interesting to see that
- KatieBee, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7or more likely,
404 Not Found - brian1625, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Bingo? Try LAN Parties in Nursing homes!
- richardstelmach, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0i like it!
- elsJake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4if I'm going to be in a nursing home at that age I'll just be passing by twice a week ....to see the nurses...
- ineedanencore, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1that was not funny
- Evolve, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Man i wish there was a lower 'rating' than "Lame".
How the hell could this get on the front page? - elleanee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+940 years from now?? from the looks of great-great-grandpa richard, it's more like 75 years from now.
- Majora26, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I love how Facebook apparantly hasn't changed in 40 years... Also... i would be sure there would be like an online bingo app by then. Still funny tho
