- ShyGuy91284, on 05/10/2008, -5/+110My digg identity is my online identity. My facebook identity is my real life identity. I think I'd rather keep the two seperate....
- hello2usir, on 05/10/2008, -4/+50No, they're both online identities.
Your real life identity was lost long ago when you started using MySpace and Facebook. - Dunadan, on 05/10/2008, -7/+45. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . _________

- sq2shooter, on 05/10/2008, -4/+29The thing that makes web 2.0 so nice is the anonymity. There are far too many freaks out there. No farking way I would be stupid enough to link my actual identity to my profiles on random sites where I post. But feel free to link to your actual name, picture and location so some psycho on here, who you have pissed off, can track you down.
- JasonCox, on 05/10/2008, -3/+28Users: We want privacy!
Facebook: Ok, well, here's a tool that makes all your information publicly accessible. - mvanhorn, on 05/10/2008, -1/+22Direct link from FB - http://developers.facebook.com/news.php?blog=1&sto ...
- AsSubtleAsABrik, on 05/10/2008, -3/+19Wow, bitching about a story hitting the front page and a really annoying, old meme? Two birds are now dead because of you, sir.
- johnpaul191, on 05/10/2008, -0/+13They make a point. Your facebook identity, if you use your real name or school or employer, is the one that potential future employers may find. We all have heard of employers googling people's names. "ShyGuy91284" has the right to speak their mind online and not fear their political/social views swaying a future job (or whatever). They may have established that name, so it is an online personality more than just an anonymous userID.
Another way to look at it.... Say your facebook page references your Xbox Live userID and some potential employer could see that you literally spent 5 days straight playing some game. It might be nice to have the ability to hide that. - endlessoul, on 05/10/2008, -2/+15You should never keep anything "real life" on the internet. It's too dangerous. This is bat country.
No, seriously, word to the wise. Put nothing personal on the internet. - doubledowndan, on 05/10/2008, -0/+8I prefer the term diggface.
- tidu, on 05/10/2008, -0/+9Wow, you must be new. Just a year ago, everyone argued the exact opposite of your argument. Myspace pages are ***** up with so much bad HTML that it crashes your browser, and you get spam comments everyday. Facebook is pretty clean and my app requests have severely dropped.
- clarocada, on 05/10/2008, -3/+10It's interesting that Facebook do not seem to be using Data Portability standards, and as Chris Saad points out in the comments on this article, that is a strange omission. They really need to execute well on this, and make sure data is secure, or they are going to fail big time. I also note that Digg are in bed with them as early stage partners, which may create the new verb "to facedigg" when hyping content.
Cynic that I am, I'd say it's time to check your "fine-grained privacy settings" I think, and perhaps time to reserve your "anonymous me" persona in both spaces. ;-) - xTRUMANx, on 05/10/2008, -0/+8Don't you think its more responsible if it were an opt-in? Digg users signed up here unaware of any connection to facebook. I really wouldn't think they would force-feed us a facebook link (even if it were an opt-out). Its like every time a girl comments on digg referencing the fact that she is a woman, all of a sudden she would have a ton of creepy bastards snooping around her facebook page and not just her digg profile page.
- lamiaconfitor, on 05/10/2008, -0/+6Never, ever say anything like that again, please?
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -0/+6Shut the ***** up.
- HanSolo69, on 05/10/2008, -2/+7Awesome thumbnail.
- dagamer34, on 05/10/2008, -2/+7Finally someone uses it without being an idiot! :)
- atlquaker, on 05/10/2008, -9/+14MySpace and Facebook = who cares?
- Versh, on 05/10/2008, -2/+7Someday, people will be able to create one online account for all social networking, email, forums, and news aggregates-- say goodbye to the dozens of log-in screens, the future is transferable net-identities.
- thekungfuman, on 05/10/2008, -1/+6I like my privacy too, but I genuinely don't understand this nonsense. If you're so concerned about not having anyone online know who you are, why do you have a facebook account at all?
And the anonymity thing is annoying to me too. Conversations would be so much more civil if you couldn't hide behind "SomeAsshole36" when you post. I don't say anything online I wouldn't say face to face. Anyone else? Am I the only one who values privacy but still doesn't use the internet to hide? - picpak, on 05/10/2008, -4/+9When I want Facebook, I'll use Facebook. When I want Digg, I'll use Digg.
Capiche? - ultrafez, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4What does this have to do with Fark?
- NOFXY, on 05/10/2008, -1/+5spacebook? myface? http://youtube.com/watch?v=yGtt1-Bb_iY
- NeoCortex, on 05/10/2008, -1/+4I really don't think I want my real-life friends on Facebook to see some of the stories I read here on Digg. Separate is good.
- adlep, on 05/10/2008, -3/+6I do not want anything to do with the "stole the code" Facebook owner.
If I will see my profile fro Digg on Facebook, you will loose my account Digg. - jc7012, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3facebook will be the end of us all.
- jasalo, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2That's true, I was about to comment. In some years I think we may have just one ID for the Internet so we can move from site to site without re-authenticate. Maybe it can be a trusted ID signed by a third party to avoid those freaks out there....
- worldchanger, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Buried for an inaccurate title; Facebook's Connect is not being launched in response to MySpace's similar service. That would take months to "respond" to, and many tech blogs have already stated quoted Facebook insiders as stating that it was not a response to MySpace.
Plus, no one really cares. - inactive, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2And they're providing a valuable service. How is this different than any other business?
- ladyarcher85, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3I actually welcomed this feature since I use facebook a lot and most of my friends now have it and use it on almost a daily basis. Its easier to communicate without downloading anything.
- TomTruelle, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3Theyre not forcing us to use it, are they?
- KINGGS, on 05/10/2008, -2/+4I think websites will collaborate similar to how flickr is with yahoo. In the end there will be 9 big sites with little sites connected to them, & then a bunch of independents. It will kind of work like the Record industry is set up, but it probably wont suck quite as bad.
- dasch, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2What I'd really like to see is decent Twitter integration. The TwitterSync application works pretty well, but things like replies and being smart about @username is still missing.
- cdcr28, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3If you're really afraid of that, you're a pussy and an egomaniac. The real reason you wouldn't wanna do that is, if you have a ***** here on digg, all of your IRL friends will see it and maybe they'll tease you about it.
But there aren't very many people willing to kill/hurt/harm someone because they lost an Internet argument. - ladon86, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2Facedigg?! Good luck with that catching on.
- satanikus, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2You got digg in my facebook! You got facebook in my digg!
- allanak, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2What ever happened to OpenID? So much for that.
- Thaum, on 05/10/2008, -2/+5I really don't care. If someone gets upset over something I've said or written, upset over my opinions on anything, then they are stupid, ignorant and very probably christian.
- inactive, on 05/10/2008, -2/+4Give an idiot kid like Kevin Rose access to my personal info? I dont' think so.
- inactive, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2No thanks. I like my privacy.
- boldfire, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1More to the point. Digg is hardly going to be aware of all of our Facebook accounts. In reality it would HAVE to be opt-in.
- endlessoul, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3Agreed. Whoever gets the most visitors and ad views gets the most money.
It's a business, and we are providing the content AND revenue streams. Congratulations. - vagrantradio, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Wow. Facebook, Myspace and meme all right here for my reading pleasure. What more could you ask for?
- phishneslo, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1"Facebook DOES not seem..." and "Digg IS in bed..." Singular subjects need singular verbs; only plural subjects get plural verbs ("Facebook" and "Digg" are both single entities) "My brother 'is' a nutritionist..." "My sisters 'are' mathematicians..." I'm not the language police, and I ain't no prescriptive grammarian, but sometimes a little vigilantism is in order...
- poxonyou, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1No, I was using Friendster when it was in beta and no one thought Myspace was going to beat Friendster. Actually, there was Makeout club before that, but I never joined.
There are some ***** pages, mostly from teenagers (little reason to browse their pages, "Wow, she likes Avril Lavigne and Disney!! Cool!"), but on the whole, people just use the default page. If you do know how to design and use HTML, it's much more fun to design your page.
The comment spam problem is mostly the users fault. When you add 300 bands to your profile because you're afraid people will think you're a social retard if you don't have hundreds of friends, well, that's what happens. I only put my actual friends on my list and never get spam. Go figure.
Still, I agree that Myspace should separate band friends from normal friends. Comment spam from bands could then be sent to a separate section on the user's main login page, like "Band Bulletin" or something. - inactive, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1WTF?
- Myonosken, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Picture Comments (1 new)
Comment 1: "HEY BITCH, YOU'VE GOT NO ***** ARMS. DIE PLEASE"
Yeah, because getting upset or offended by that would make them"stupid, ignorant and very probably christian" - Myonosken, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Yeah fight the systemmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111
