- wes00mertes, on 10/11/2007, -3/+86You've been poked by Sony. Poke back?
- sockdemon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+39Uh, I couldn't give a ***** about ads. The day facebooks starts blasting out prepubescent, emo trash music on an eye bleeding black and lime green colour scheme is the day I never click wall to wall again. Then again, someone would start a group and maybe, just maybe, contrary to tom's policy of only listening to young, hot women, the people at facebook would change it.
- jjk5, on 10/11/2007, -4/+40I often see "your" used in place of "you're". I just chalk it up to people being too lazy to type it correctly. But you sir, you've gone above and beyond your duty and typed out the reverse error, something I rarely see. In all caps no less. Hats off to you, my good man.
- poitzort, on 10/11/2007, -4/+39One of the nice things about Facebook in its current state is that advertisements are limited to things that adblock works well on. I don't go one Facebook to get sold products. That happens every OTHER waking minute of my life. The day Facebook lets people start pushing products on each other will be the day I close my Facebook account. I assume it's inevitable, but I'd rather delay it as long as possible.
- goonbaggins, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21"For instance, an online retailer could build a service in Facebook to let people recommend music or books to their friends"
I'm not super worried about this ruining Facebook. I'm going to trust Zuckerberg until he I have a reason not to. - Xanadude, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19"I'm going to trust Zuckerberg until he I have a reason not to."
Mark Zuckerberg is pretty much a scumbag - he took a contract to develop a Facebook competitor while still a student, burned through a few months of time, then bailed on it so he could launch Facebook. (source: http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/archives/2004/09/20/news/10767.shtml, among others.) I'd say that's a pretty good reason not to trust him. - imants, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Is the irony here intended or no?
- desistere, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Hmm... I like "don't be evil" more than "make the world open." Open to what? Advertisers?
- Niten, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11Depends on how hot the token girl in the company's profile image is.
- Caps, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Buried for the reporter's lack of vocabulary...
"familiar with the matter" was used 6 times - JoshuaGross, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Everyone is over-reacting. What people don't understand is that you have to go TO THE ADVERTISER for this to happen. You then authorize them to use your Facebook account for this session, and they can access your account through the Facebook API.
In other words, this doesn't mean that EVERY application make for the Facebook API will be shoved at your face. - AbortedFetus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Well as long as we're ripping apart his grammar..."error's" should not have an apostrophe.
- pezholio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I don't see the big problem with ads. Big sites like Facebook have big overheads and it's not like I pay attention to the ads anyway. I'd sooner be bombarded with ads that I ignore than be forced to pay for online services.
- elfuego, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Well... hang on. Am I the only one that likes this idea? If let's say Ticketmaster integrates into facebook, and I can set up an event for some show my friends and I all want to see, and not have to go hunting through ticketmaster's site but just have the concert tickets and a purchase link right there? That's a ***** great idea. Or if course groups had links to the amazon listing for all the textbooks? I don't want more ads on facebook... what they've got is just fine. But greater corporate accessibility via Facebook? Hell yes.
- buadach, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5At least they are staying independent when they could so easily have sold out for megabucks long ago.
- Juaquin, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9Yay! Another Myspace! I was thinking to myself, just the other day, wouldn't it be great if the only social networking site left that hasn't completely sold out, sold out? And it came true! This is going to be awesome guys!
- AbortedFetus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7Christ I hope so.
- hobnob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3kind of related as in "search digg for facebook, post random link?"
completely unrelated - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@ mikefitz2 - Facebook is up and live. I just listed my house for sale.
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Open their pages - just like a republican congressman!
- humanerror, on 04/03/2008, -1/+4Yes but facebook was the one place where I can have a lot of really stupid friends and still not be spammed or annoyed by them. Now they'll all be punching monkeys and signing up for free ipods, and I'm going to get buried in the resulting spam. :/
- shableep, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4you're = "you are"
you're kinda bad at english.
your english is kinda bad. - jjesusfreak01, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Its a breath of fresh air. Myspace has been closing down scripting and third party app support, while Facebook is adding it.
- koreth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's almost as if not every rumor on the Internet is true! Weird!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3You're responsible for what you input into Facebook. If you don't like what they're doing with your information, then you could, y'know, just not input any into the site. Or better yet, remove yourself from Facebook.
- deansfurniture5, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3No--I believe this is more along the lines of inline "widgets"--a developer writes a little snippet of code that goes *inside* the facebook website, rather than just hooking into facebook and grabbing data. This will actually displayed in the facebook interface.
- boswelljr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2You can already post you-tube videos and notes, list what music you like, what tv shows and movies you like, so why do we need to be able to recommend them? I have a feeling this means even more of those advertisements in your news feed.
- slapthemonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Its another social networking site in the list.
- skyeflye, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Unfortunately, I doubt it. Mildly humorous either way though.
- wesl56, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2man i dont know if i like facebook getting this big... ive been on it since 04 and the reason i like it over myspace is i like just sharing info and pics with my close friends at my university... not the whole world
- wootup, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's crazy how many people think that Facebook is somehow an "indie" version of MySpace. The thing has intelligence connections you wouldn't believe. See: http://albumoftheday.com/facebook/
- ithinksometimes, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1What happened to the Facebook Music feature? Wasn't it going to open today?
- asiegrist, on 06/20/2009, -6/+6My god, you're absolutely right jjk5. Two grammatical error's with the same word, but I think my point it still useful. By the way, I used "you're" correctly this time, omg!!!!!
- asiegrist, on 06/20/2009, -8/+6I still despise facebook for letting employer's buy rights to look at people's pages and not letting someone delete their own information. Try deleting you're account; you can re-activate it in a heartbeat and all your info is there. Just remember people, YOU'RE INFORMATION IS NOT PRIVATE.
- awesomename, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Well, that was fun while it lasted.
- bluechips23, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1It's so cool when I saw the FaceBook Marketplace or the career center starting up last week or so.
About a year back, I took a class in Internet Marketing where we had to work on an online project where we have to come up with our own online business model. I came up with a social networking website like facebook, except where the services offered by my website would also include something similar to that of eBay where students can sell/purchase books, items, anything they want. I also included other services including local weather, and the career zone, similar to the new career center in FB.
It's cool to see my ideas getting implemented in FB (even though I take no credit for those) but at the same time, if I were good in creating websites, and if I had created my own college's social networking website as I had originally planned, then I guess, I would have had the first mover advantage. Oh well. - kingkilr, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1I can confirm this is accurate, Obama for America will be providing one of the launch items, to the best of my knowledge this wasn't set to realse for another week or two however.
- NoDivision, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3That was the best comment ever, Niten. You should have more diggs than this Wes guy.
- braingilbreath, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1kind of related
http://digg.com/software/Automated_Facebook_Profiles_Meet_Facebook_Bot - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1facebook has been down for me for the last few hours
- therearenorules, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1damn, you beat me to the punch.
