- cowboy86, on 11/19/2007, -3/+9Why do they want to do this? So China can just censor facebook too?
- ThinkBox, on 11/19/2007, -2/+8Quick someone make a gold farming application!!!
- yellowsnowcone, on 11/19/2007, -1/+7as for organic growth, this is what facebook has done: Mainland China: 131,000 users Hong Kong: 338,000 users Taiwan: 46,000
(these are users who have joined a country/city network) - fremeer, on 11/19/2007, -0/+5its from terminator, skynet.
- chris9902, on 11/19/2007, -1/+5There is too much money being passed around for sites that only have a shelf life of a year (maybe two).
Facebook is this years MySpace and next year it will be something else. - inactive, on 11/19/2007, -0/+4I may not be able to read chinese, but by the looks of the site it doesn't seem to be worth 1 million, let alone 85 million.
- SpykerSpeed, on 11/19/2007, -0/+4More than ten bucks per user? Stupid.
- solid12345, on 11/19/2007, -0/+4I tried to use this site but everyone looks the same!
...what, too bigoted? - monkeyrun, on 11/19/2007, -1/+4An overpaid acquisition over paying for another acquisition.
- fightingirish, on 11/19/2007, -1/+4It's 2004 now?
- heloo, on 11/19/2007, -0/+3Give me 85 million I'll have twice the number in a year...Who is runnin that joint?
- yellowsnowcone, on 11/19/2007, -3/+5Bad Idea. There hasn't been a single successful acquisition of a Chinese Internet company by a US one. Homegrown Chinese Internet companies dominate. All the target acquisitions are funded by American VCs looking to scam dubious American firms via a trade sale. Monster.com has failed in China. So has eBay. If Facebook does a deal you can add that to the list.
- digggggggggg, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2No, they just wanted to make the name more pronounceable to people who don't know Chinese.
- WikiEasy, on 11/19/2007, -1/+2You gotta be very careful about Chinese websites. Most of them inflate their traffic with bots that scan the net, creating bogus accounts and bogus content. I would say the drop-off could be a warning sign of this.
Also, it's ironic that Facebook isn't buying up Xiaonei.com, the biggest f*ing copycat rippoff. With every new Facebook feature, they just keep copying like there's no tomorrow. Well, it serves them right too though... I mean at least innovate a little. They've copied even the layout. Pathetic. - claphands22, on 11/19/2007, -0/+11/46,000 - Taiwanese Facebook user. I almost feel special.
- nastri83, on 11/19/2007, -1/+2Finally, an easier way for me to meet asian chicks.
- cowboy86, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1Rick Roll is gay. Funny nonetheless.
- ch28kid, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1bury because its inaccurate.
- skinrock, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1It's not true.
- heloo, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1Elaborate.
- cr3ative, on 11/19/2007, -1/+1Someone's gonna get sued.
- nicejai, on 11/19/2007, -4/+4Is it me, or does it smell like 1999 in here?
- windover008, on 11/19/2007, -1/+1reflects some biased view of the author.
July/Aug are the vacation time for students, it's nothing to do with the censorship.
zhanzuo targets the college students market. - inactive, on 11/19/2007, -1/+1Now facebook wants to conquer the world as well... Google has got competition...
- nephilimx, on 11/19/2007, -1/+1friendster :P
- thor73, on 11/19/2007, -3/+2Wow. 7 million users. Let's see. That is 7 million out of 1,321,851,888 and change. Or 0.53% of China's population. Of course assuming these are 7 million flesh&blood Internet users.
- tringtring, on 11/19/2007, -2/+0Interesting news ! but hard to believe
- redsfaithful, on 11/19/2007, -4/+2Smart pickup, sticking to their core competency. $12 per user seems reasonable, so long as they feel confident that they understand the Chinese social networking market.
- ticothesquirrel, on 11/19/2007, -2/+0Does Facebook need to open many cans?
