- squirrel83, on 11/14/2007, -16/+230Myspace is quite annoying
- hassanchop13, on 10/11/2007, -3/+146the issue with myspace is that people have too much control over what their pages look like- and for 90% of people, thats a terrible thing.
- Ajajadude, on 11/14/2007, -6/+112And rarely works properly. It won't let my gf go into the picture sections unless she's using IE, even though it worked just fine with FF a month ago.
My left testicle could have designed that site better. - u8myfoood, on 10/11/2007, -6/+103i vomited a little when i saw that they add a top friend's feature.
- Amidnightsunset, on 10/11/2007, -11/+82The new applications on facebook are getting annoying. Most of them are pointless, and clutter up profiles.
- natmaster, on 10/11/2007, -4/+55In other news, the sky is blue.
- PamalaLauren, on 10/11/2007, -3/+48I love facebook because you can't put those stupid ass songs on your profile!
- Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/11/2007, -19/+61Myspace is just easier for finding whores.... oh wait thats almost everybody on myspace =P
- xxTazxx, on 10/11/2007, -3/+39Facebook is more formal than Myspace, allowing for it to keep at least a large amount of spammers and profile whores at bay.
- FreshHaikus, on 10/11/2007, -13/+48"since it opened up beyond college users, it has enjoyed a flood of new users"
i wouldn't say we've "enjoyed" it - Clane07226, on 10/11/2007, -3/+37That was one of the most poorly written articles I have ever read. The work reads like a third grader wrote it, especially with the repetitive use of "___ wins because" .
- aserer511, on 10/11/2007, -5/+38Myspaces worst part is its stereotypical user is either a thug or emo
- Ricapar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+31Yes, you can put music on your profile now with certain apps, but it doesn't allow it to be autoplayed. Which is a huge plus.
- pogfreak, on 10/11/2007, -11/+38I'm only speaking for myself here, but I'd like to hammer that snorgs tee girl in every key position.
- Typhoon2009, on 10/11/2007, -1/+26It's becoming myspace. One of my friends, there are like 8 applications in the right hand column of her profile before you reach her wall. And they're the huge type of apps, not small and concise things like Audio.
Worse is, people are typing like they're on myspace. I'll let some contractions like b/c and w/e slide, but typing like ***** 50 Cent is just having no self-respect. - Ageroth, on 10/11/2007, -5/+30http://xkcd.com/c134.html
- OmarOmar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24If you don't like the new facebook apps, turn them off.
- KevinJim, on 10/11/2007, -4/+24Myspace will remain as long as noobs and pedophiles exist ...
- speedk0re, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19passes to Moses he shoots... SCOOOOOREEE
- Varner13, on 10/11/2007, -5/+22You can adjust your settings on Facebook if you don't want to know what everyone is doing. Facebook definitely ftw.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14how did you create your profile tomorrow, if its today........thats really weird......you must be from the future
(edit) or maybe Australian - dheaddy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Detailed privacy controls, and a choice of what features you do or don't want on your profile makes it a win for Facebook in those respects IMO. Plus on-the-fly restructuring and rearranging of your profile page actually helps users clean up their profiles.
There is a swarm of crappy applications out now though, but the people who use them tend to be those kind of annoying people that you couldn't be bothered to talk to anyway.
A badly made myspace page however will probably trigger a seizure in that epilepsy you didn't know you had. You can't even call for help as you choke on your own tongue over the sound of the My Chemical Romance track that started autoplaying when you loaded the page. - adam07, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Yeah I don't mind the songs if they don't have autoplay. It's cool to see/hear other people's musical tastes, I just like to be able to choose if I want to hear them or not.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11With all these new applications Facebook is adding, it will turn in to myspace in no time.
- sprinter9109, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Just don't add the automatic play of music! Soo Annoying!
- Timmmm, on 10/11/2007, -5/+14Unfortunately you can now since they added 'applications'. Damn them. Although it has allowed me to discover that one of my friends is scarily good at rock paper scissors - 81 wins, 6 losses - it defies probability!
- lebaige, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Why is it digg continually misses the most compelling feature of a social network .. OTHER PEOPLE. It doesn't matter how slick Facebook is or how ***** myspace is, it matters where the people you want to talk to are.
- Typhuse, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8You can also notice how many accounts are phished/ hacked with MySpace. I rarely see that in Facebook. Not to mention the retarded spam that is sent out by the phished accounts. Last but not least, Tom, the annoying little prick who always has some news bulletin having to do with some crappy errors or about the site being closed (I hope this eventually happens).
- CaptShmo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8well, i for one like myspace. i'm a web designer, i know how poorly myspace is designed, but almost all my friends have myspace profiles and almost none of them have facebook pages.
i use myspace for the same reason i use aim... large user base with a lot of people i know in it. - LANjackal, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I was dragged onto MySpace in the summer of 2005 and never really liked it from day 1.
1 - Plain and simple, Facebook (FB) is so much easier to use
2 - Ironically, while it's actually more difficult to keep tabs on your friends via MySpace due to the lack of a newsfeeds feature, privacy is also a lot worse thanks to a near total lack of granular control
3 - God-awful user profiles. I've actually had a friend's profile lock up my PC with the amount of crap on it.
For this reason, I'm rarely there any more. My profile actually explicitly says "nothing happens here, check Facebook"
Oh, and the FB apps are awesome :). - Typhuse, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7I support this comment fully. =P
It's because they are to conform. That's whenever you make something for them to conform to, and gets loads of money. - Koros8, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5"With all these new applications Facebook is adding, it will turn in to myspace in no time."
Agreed! All these Myspace haters will be talking ***** about Facebook as well a year from now. ***** trend whores!! - roguenine2000, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4myspace is like the times square of the internet. everybody talks about it and it is full of crappy ads.
- Bumblebee418, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The article makes a good point:
"MySpace was a great social network for a while, but now there are too many spammers and the developers have stopped innovating."
Shame that the same thing is bound to happen to facebook sooner or later. I hope by then I'm out of the facebook loop. - residentskitz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6anybody who uses facebook should watch this video.
http://albumoftheday.com/facebook/final.swf
basically tells how the people who run facebook can be traced back to the CIA and the Department of Defense and how its a data goldmine.
i think its been on digg before. - trippinlikegod, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The only thing it doesn't hammer myspace on is page views but with all these new improvements we might see that begin to change.
- sonictonic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I too hate MySpace, and don't particularly like Facebook.
virb.com FTW! - spidoman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I'll use last.fm and that is all. All others seem like crap...
- Ryn2o01, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I use both. I mean Facebook has it's pro's and con's and so does MySpace. Either way I am maximizing my social networking potential.
- KuntaKinte, on 10/11/2007, -8/+11title should read: "facebook skeets all over myspace and lights a cigarette"
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5This is incredibly ironic, because I just made a Facebook account yesterday and I found this story when I was adding the Digg application to my profile. Weird.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I agree, very poor writing. I stopped at the end of Round 1 because it really wasn't being fair. Don't get me wrong, I despise MySpace, but when you say it "ties" with Facebook on customizability (based on aesthetic grounds—I thought that was another category...), well, you just can't call that fair.
- Subterfug, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myspace.com%2F
That is all. - jcardinal, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Come on now, let's face it, myspace is for anyone under 16.
- joshua5, on 10/11/2007, -12/+15facebook is too elitist to ever overcome a site like myspace. forgetting about the technologies, normal people want control, and myspace gives it to them. when it comes to being able to view profiles of non-friends and searching for people you don't know, myspace wins, and thats what the users want. a site with little to no restrictions and if that means more spam and people who abuse it then thats the sacrifice.
whether or not thats good or bad is irrelevant. myspace is the PC and facebook is the Mac. - alchemus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2ning.com lets you create your own social network. And zude.com lets you do pretty much whatever the heck you want. myspace is getting obsolete by the second
- discourse, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2myspace is like google search. it looks ugly but it does what you need it to do. the people complaining about it just don't have enough friends!
- Agreb91, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Facebook is becoming Myspace. With all the new apps it will not be long until we can change our entire facebook page.
