- Sblader5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17the first comment on the facebook api released story was predicting this...
- fitzymj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14So who owes me $5?
- mt066, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Cool! My stalker is going to love this!
- rrrrw22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Yea, sorry about the canada support, I'm doing my own geocoding for speed from my own db, and it doesn't have canada... Give me a day and I'll find a db for canada or use geocode through google.
- Rigbymatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7not really, facebook is much more about connections with people, itsa well built network that allows you to stay in touch while at college, not so much "HAY LOOK IM 14 AND I HAV A PLACE ON DA INTERNET"
- gmc14, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Well done! I'll digg as soon as it works for Canada :)
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wow- imagine the lawsuits if myspace did this :)
- jpatch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6screw Canada (actually, we have someone who goes by the name Canada at school) I wanna see TOTAL international support!
Rock on, though. I was thinking about this sort of thing just last week. - djm101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Would appreciate UK support more than Canada support ;)
- ebs16, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A little buggy. If you have more than one friend with the same hometown listed, it only shows one of them. Nevertheless, very cool.
- gmc14, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Appreciate it, thanks.
(Dugg in anticipation of Canada support) - Durinthal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Right place, right time.
Initially it was only for college students; you needed a .edu email address to get in. That gave a sense of eliteness and privacy. It's since opened up, but because that's where all the cool college kids are, that's where the kids in high school go too. - Crumble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would appreciate UK support too!
- GuitaristTom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2oh my god... google is everything... they use google earth on the weather channel now too
- gmc14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The API that facebook released just yesterday requires a working address when you apply for an authorization key, as such people who are working on developing apps using the API must (for now) use whatever server they can actually update.
It appears fairly obvious that the book website is rrrrw22's original website, and the mapper is using that domain because that is the domain the creator was able update in order to use the API. - joshfraz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Pretty neat application. The only problem I've found with it so far is when you have multiple friends from one city they all end up getting geocoded to the same location and it's impossible for you to see who lives there.
- djm101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you let a stalker add you as a friend on facebook you're asking to get raped anyway.
- rrrrw22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2yea, bookfaced is unrelated, I just needed a domain to put it on. Bookfaced is something I have been working on for a while, but completely seperate.
- julieBi, on 12/08/2008, -0/+1This is very cool!!!
For more cool facebook stuff, this is my favorite

What do u think? - mapkinase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I visited facebook, but I am not sure I understand what is the big deal about it. What is so unique about facebook that differe it from the other older social networking places, like MSN, for example.
- RJD2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I second the desire for Canada!
- Jangles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah Support for Canada would rock.
Dugg for a good job. - cantbearsed1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2will digg once uk is enabled
- staticfish, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3me too
- Yankees368, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is pretty sweet.
- frikk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hey, out of curiosity:
what kind of speed performance are you looking at? I use a caching geoip script I wrote, but it still interfaces with a geoip server. You're going to get multiple hits with hometowns - which is where caching would be beneficial. Which geoip server are you using? If you have any questions, feel free to contact me - http://frikk.tk - iowaboyjcb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know... more like Facebook Stalk-mapper.
- bmac2007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Only thing i didn't like was if you knew more than one person from a town, you only could look at one person... so from all my friends from back home, i only saw one of them.
- nsummy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4you are a nerd
- vandy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i thought facebook already did this. it could show you where all of your friends are for the summer.
- Rigbymatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its very nifty but not completly accurate, everyone i know is about 10 miles north of their actual houses
- duzytata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Geo Visitors for Myspace: http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/geovisitors/
- Mace37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ya, I was wondering why I only had three people from my list show up. I'll be interested when it has all of North America, and possibly even the rest of the world. That would be pretty cool.
- vbsurfer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uhhh I have friends in Botswana, can we get support there as well?
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2heh, i was predicting that the first facebook mashup would be something with google maps.
here's an idea that i don't have time to implement - how about a sort of library loan system. when i was in college, i was letting people borrow ***** left and right and half of it i never got back. but, that was mostly because i didnt know who i had loaned it too. so what about a way to keep track of what stuff of yours your facebook friends have? - erohead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Couldn't you use Google Maps new built in Geocoder? It's quite robust at finding key parts of the address from text strings.
- mikeatlas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Be sure to stop in to #facebook on freenode, rrrrw22
- rrrrw22, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Just thought I would mention that we have the new facebook api to thank for this. (although I'm not sure why no one thought of this before, it would not have been that hard to scrape this information)
- davidrools, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0freakin tight! I thought it was useless until I decided to zoom in.
- yoshevvchoshev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now if only they made a Six Degrees tool for Facebook. That would be interesting.
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1
Facebook Friend Stalker.
New Scientist has discovered that Pentagon's National Security Agency, which specialises in eavesdropping and code-breaking, is funding research into the mass harvesting of the information that people post about themselves on social networks. - jonbev, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0This one sucks! US only.
Try this one instead. It works for the whole world! - http://apps.facebook.com/mapyourfriends/ - crossers, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0oh interesting! but you're right I don't need this!

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1So what? Should I care about you? I seriously doubt it.
MODS are about - GopherChucks, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2You don't need an invite, all you need to join facebook is a .edu address. Because of my school's naming conventions, I have the same email address with 3 different extensions (@indiana, @iub, @exchange.iu).
I used the second two to make a profile for Emory and Oglethorpe from ATHF. My friends and I had pretty much every character from the show up on facebook, each with a couple hundred friends. I haven't logged the accounts in a *long* time so I don't know that they're still active. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0I look very interested. Are you people wankers?
- nOOBert, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Facebook + google maps = stalkers dream??
- JimiSweden, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0I don't really see the connection between the bookfaced page (for buying and selling used books) and the facebook page (see where your friends are). Who is this for, really? What does it do? The links for help page, registration page and some other pages are broken.
Is it for students who want to see on a map where his book-selling/buying friends live? - razei, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Very cool. Now if only I could get an invite to Facebook from some whore at my school. :(
