- johneyoung, on 06/11/2008, -3/+207Not sure if I was expecting some mind-blowing numbers, but these aren't all that shocking. Then again, the perks of working at Google aren't listed here, and that where they really differentiate themselves from other companies.
- andrewpmk, on 06/12/2008, -3/+142Sample size of 43. Doesn't look like very good data considering that Google has about 20000 employees. Take with a grain of salt.
- inactive, on 06/12/2008, -3/+94How much do the Google Street View® drivers make?
- cubswin297, on 06/11/2008, -1/+84Larry Page doesn't even make this list with his $25k annual salary.
- gfxlonghorn, on 06/12/2008, -0/+66Only because those 900+ employees had stock options before they went public. Anybody who gets a job now, will get only average pay with probably no stock options, or even if they do, the price is pretty inflated at the moment, which is why they are millionaires now.
- dodgejon, on 06/11/2008, -2/+65I think around 900+ employees are millionaires
- screwattackthis, on 06/12/2008, -0/+58I don't think he's complaining with his $18.6 billion net worth.
- dodgejon, on 06/11/2008, -1/+56http://www.google.com/intl/en/jobs/
- Dohko_Xar, on 06/12/2008, -2/+53Don't forget all the benefits that they get, free meals, free clothes washing service, free daycare for little kids. Pfff! I would work there even if the salary was less than the average!
- matu4251, on 06/12/2008, -1/+49Pretty standard salaries for the area.
- nobodaddy, on 06/11/2008, -2/+47This glassdoor.com site also let you rant about the boss, anonymously. Then you can compare what all you coworkers have been ranting about, anonymously. You can get also get salary info about a lot of the big tech firms, not just Google.
- tankster522, on 06/11/2008, -7/+39With those salaries, hell, I'd work there as a janitor.
- parentingteens, on 06/11/2008, -7/+39Where do I send my Resume?
- drobie, on 06/12/2008, -0/+31Ahhh I hope the product manager making $99k sees this and thinks "WHAT THE BALLS?!"
- XanderDee, on 06/11/2008, -3/+33Thanks I'm asking for a raise!
- binorgog, on 08/07/2008, -1/+31That's pretty normal almost low for a profitable IT org
- digjam, on 06/12/2008, -0/+29He doesnt have much to do...other than maintain a textbox and change logos :D
- chanop, on 06/12/2008, -3/+31Ok, hand in your McDonalds uniform
- LeeFH, on 06/12/2008, -1/+26And what about the Assistant To The Regional Manager?!
- inactive, on 06/12/2008, -0/+23The salaries are good, but not spectacular.
- dodgejon, on 06/11/2008, -2/+24http://www.google.com/intl/en/jobs/
- Slothy88, on 06/12/2008, -1/+22good one..you showed them.
- inactive, on 06/12/2008, -2/+23Programmers make programmer salaries, Janitors make janitor salaries. (janitor salaries?!)
- captaindigger, on 06/12/2008, -2/+22The web developer is getting ripped off.
- inactive, on 06/12/2008, -0/+20I was thinking the same thing. Salary wise I'm stacking up pretty darn good to the Google guys... I bet their perks are awesome though.
- nateking1, on 06/11/2008, -2/+21With google, it is better to opt for stock options.
- willdelaney, on 06/12/2008, -2/+20Could probably make 50k as a professional digger
- bobartig, on 06/12/2008, -2/+19I live in the bay area, and I'll hear people complain about the entry salaries at Google being somewhat low-ballish. So my assumption has always been that Google doesn't really pay that well, but makes up for it with stock and benefits.
- diggproof, on 06/12/2008, -0/+17Not if you put a comma at the end http://www.glassdoor.com/index.htm
- gunderoo, on 06/12/2008, -2/+18sure the pay is nice, but really, i'm in it for the segways and the bouncy balls.
- inactive, on 06/12/2008, -0/+16Some employee reviews from the site:
“Google is a great place to work as an engineer - just don't expect a small company environment”
“Google:An Elitist's Playground”
“Google is still a fantastic place to work.”
“Fun at first, frustrating in the long run.”
“If you can live up to the challenge, its the best place to be. Think twice if you're female, or have family.”
“Awesome culture, bad management”
“An open, collaborative, innovative and flexible place to work.”
“Great place to work, unless you have children.”
“Don't work at Google unless you want to corporate climb to nowhere.”
“It's not what it's cracked up to be.”
“Promotions are not fair at all.” - c0baltfish, on 06/12/2008, -0/+151 billion Stanley Nickels.
- zippy757, on 06/12/2008, -2/+16IBM pays better, as does Microsoft and many other top notch firms.
- fangor, on 06/12/2008, -0/+14Buy your own damn cookie :(
- hokie96, on 06/12/2008, -0/+13Free clothes washing is not a service, they just provide washer/dryers.
Free daycare is also a myth, it's something for which you have to pay (not particularly cheap), and the waiting list is 2+ years long. - dmazzoni, on 06/12/2008, -0/+13Shameless plug, since I work at Google.
Google is always hiring good software engineers (among other things). The exact rate of hiring varies from time to time, but there are always openings for really good coders. Google doesn't tend to care if you have experience with specific technologies - for the most part they'd rather hire someone who's brilliant and willing to learn Google's favorite languages and technologies, than someone who happens to have expertise in what they need (Python, MySQL), etc. but isn't as strong overall.
Also, don't forget that Google has engineering offices all around the world. There are 100+ engineers in Santa Monica, CA, Irvine, CA, Seattle, WA, Boulder, CO, and New York, NY, just to name a few. - FatLoser, on 06/12/2008, -1/+14Tell me more about this interesting product, good sir or ma'am. What else does this magical website do?
- cuppyCake, on 06/12/2008, -2/+15I'd like to see some photos of shirtless Google engineers, posing with fistfuls of cash.
- FatLoser, on 06/12/2008, -2/+14Not to mention the sample size is small as my wiener and that the method by which this website found these 43 salaries is unknown. Were these figures obtained from employees (pretty worthless info) or did somebody peek where they shouldn't be? Regardless, 43 employees out of XX,XXX is not a good enough sample. Especially when you consider several of these positions only had 1 or 2 reported salaries.
- mrbeagle, on 06/12/2008, -0/+11If he doesn't like it maybe he should get a better job
- Steinr, on 06/12/2008, -0/+11Google it!!!!
- cbizzle, on 06/12/2008, -1/+12did you google "google salaries"?
- mrjit, on 06/12/2008, -0/+11Christ I was expecting far better salaries than that when I clicked this, unless Google is one of those companies where the titles are completely gluttonous, for example a "Systems Engineer" being an everyday Tech who racks servers.
- 10SpeedMike, on 06/12/2008, -0/+10Maybe that's why your company is struggling.
- jedsmith, on 06/11/2008, -1/+11What is the source of this information? Employee submissions? I'd be interested to see a few more companies.
- FatLoser, on 06/12/2008, -1/+11Are you sure a run of the mill McDonalds employee isn't overqualified for a PM position?
- fpaudon, on 06/12/2008, -2/+12airline pilots have no lives besides flying planes, so they deserve higher salaries
- orlyfactor, on 06/12/2008, -0/+10I have a bachelor's myself and I will say experience > education about 99% of the time. I have interviewed many a person with a master's degree, and they are not any more likely to get the job over someone even without a degree who knows their *****. Unless, of course, you try to work at these elitist places that think a higher degree automatically makes you smarter than people with a lesser degree, then you have to do it, but why would you want to work for one of those places anyway?
