- Cander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just because the server exists, doesnt mean its legit.

Just to name a few. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it's not legal, but they do have a big collection of ROMS
- iamtheshow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1everyone should just pick up river city ransom and chill out. :P
- flarn2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you want to skip the wait, here's a bookmarklet. Type it into your address bar (might be wise to bookmark it) and then use it when you need to wait 15 seconds and the download link will appear. I made it myself!
javascript:void(time=0) - number8888, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Since when are ROMs legit?
- KelteN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Most older Atari, Nintendo, Mame, etc roms are now legal to distribute. Patents are gone and rules are changed. Although, I don't believe Nintendo 64 roms are legal to distribute yet. But their collection seems to be empty from the quick look I took.
- muffins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you use ad block your just asking for the site to shutdown since it's probably expensive to host all those roms.
- bluephoenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0also see www.emuasylum.org
- sterbacblu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...and now that it's on digg, this site will soon be gone, one way or another.
- larsinio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i meant legit as in not a complete advertising redirect site.
Most advertised rom sites are just huge links to other advertising sites
this one legitimately gives what it says - atanguay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It exists cause it doesn't work. Two ROMs I tried to grab weren't there. LAME
- Sess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not every ROM for every console is there, missing a bunch of Neo-Geo games.
- bluephoenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sorry I meant http://www.emuasylum.com
- tribalsun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I didn't get ***** but those lame "vote" for us links. No rom downloads, not MAME but LAME.
- neonhomer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Like mezziah suggested using bittorrent (or my preference: newsgroups) you can find and download multiple roms MUCH faster/easier.
Another good individual site is http://www.romshare.net/ but you have to sign up (for free). - pizarro1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't see what the problem is here. I just checked out this site and the downloads are working fine. If any of you guys actually took the time to see how it works instead of just ranting 'LAME it doesn't work'.
Also these roms are very easy to get these days, just check out usenet and bitorrent like was commented by someone else above. That way you can get them in just one click and much faster.
Still it's a very nice site, and it does not force you to vote, or even bring you in a voting loop. - stolenpass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Files The Rom Hustler provides the public and the internet retrogaming community with the finest selection of Reference Only Material on the web. We offer no illegal files for download and do not in any way condone the pirating of software."
Reference ONLY huh. LOL - avg_bear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.theoldcomputer.com/ is an ok site too.
- pizarro1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And even so that argument that no sale will occur renders blank, because these 'roms' are not commercially for sale anymore.
- TWiThead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Most older Atari, Nintendo, Mame, etc roms are now legal to distribute."
False. Under current United States law, a collective work's copyright expires (and it enters the public domain) after the shorter of 95 years from publication or 120 years from creation. Obviously, no video game is nearly old enough for this to apply.
"Patents are gone and rules are changed."
Patents are irrelevant. - trev0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0

You might as well just break into a GameSpot and hold it up at gunpoint while you raid the place. At least that takes more guts than committing the same crime in front of a computer screen in your parent's basement. You are worse than scum, and you should be ashamed of yourself. That is all."
If you can't see the difference between robbing a store at gunpoint and transfering 1s and 0s over a wire, then you don't bother reading the rest of this comment. Otherwise, please continue.
There is a distinct difference between actually stealing an object from a store and copying it over a wire. Once that object is in your possesion, everyone (including yourself) loses something. The store loses money from the item being stolen and not sold, the insurance company loses money paying the store, insurance prices go up, and in return when you or someone else actually pays for something at that store (or any store under the same insurance) in the future the prices are now higher.
Now, if you download a copy of the item (game, movie, etc.) from the Internet, no one actually loses anything. No materials are lost. No one lost money. No one was hurt. Sure, you can argue the publisher lost money from not actually making a sale, but that argument sucks (in general). Maybe I just wanted to try it out for 10 minutes before I spent $60 buying a ridiculously overpriced game. - jdgtrplyr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good digg, hopefully this site works! Any other good resources for old school roms?
- pizarro1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That message about the DoS attack is already over a month old, I know this site for over a year now. It was not caused by the digg effect.
Also, thenino85, you clearly don't know what you're talking about. This site has no downloable content that is still commercially for sale whatsoever. - psyonide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some people seem to misunderstand the use of the word "legit."
If you've ever been to romz sites you'd know that most of them make big promises, only to lure you into sites filled with pop ups, ads, and links to other ad-laden sites with zero roms. Those are illegimate romz sites, for obvious reasons.
This site is legit because it actually delivers what it promises. The use of the word "legit" doesn't always mean "legal under the law."
Sorry to basically repeat what the other guy said, but it seems to me that many people have a tendancy to simply skip over comments without reading them, so this bears repeating. - Scopitone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great way to get some MAME'd arcade titles that are otherwise beyond impossible to get.
- TheNino85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I went and looked around at the site (amazing, someone actually looked at the site before commenting, BRILLIANT!) Since they do not have express permission from the game publishers, it's not legit, end of story. As an aside, anyone think that the DoS attack they mentioned on the news section was actually the digg effect? Heh.
Oh yeah, and just don't download the ROMs please. Just because you don't want it to be illegal, doesn't mean it isn't illegal. I'm not going to get all self-righteous or anything, but for God's sake most of these games could be picked up for five bucks on eBay or at a local retail vendor. That's just the old ones that aren't being published. If you're the type that downloads new games that are being published as we speak, I will get self-righteous on you. You might as well just break into a GameSpot and hold it up at gunpoint while you raid the place. At least that takes more guts than committing the same crime in front of a computer screen in your parent's basement. You are worse than scum, and you should be ashamed of yourself. That is all. - zarlwilliam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i say we support this great and other awesome sites by clicking the ads. It costs $$$ to host all those games and its a wonderful service. No.. i have nothing to do with that site... i just know how expensive things can get.
- Donut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ive been going to that site for quite some time. its really good in finding roms that actually work and are on the site.
- ReyBrujo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And now that Revolution will allow playing old games with its virtual console, it is very possible Nintendo will strongly prosecute game rippers.
- pizarro1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Speaking of hogwash mickelodian, you're full of it.
If you scroll down a bit it clearly says that the download link will appear in 15 seconds, which it does. Don't you feel like an idiot now? - piesforyou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Huh? What's new about a site offering a lot of roms for download?
- TWiThead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Now, if you download a copy of the item (game, movie, etc.) from the Internet, no one actually loses anything. No materials are lost. No one lost money. What "sucks" is when people attempt to rationalize theft.
I agree that downloading an illegal duplicate of a copyrighted work is not tantamount to robbing a store at gunpoint. So what? Pointing out that one crime is worse than another doesn't make the lesser offense okay.
"Maybe I just wanted to try it out for 10 minutes before I spent $60 buying a ridiculously overpriced game."
Out of 100 illegal content downloaders, how many do you honestly believe pirate entertainment for this purpose (and actually purchase legitimate copies of products that they enjoy)? - TWiThead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"And even so that argument that no sale will occur renders blank, because these 'roms' are not commercially for sale anymore."
The vast majority of vintage video games are readily available for legitimate purchase. Many have been re-released by their publishers (often in "retro" compilations), and nearly all can be acquired second-hand.
http://video-games.ebay.com/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0where can I down load all of them in one self installing file?
- Mickelodian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hmm... I took a look at this... the page said downloading.... but of course there is no download... or file for that matter. Seems to be a load of hogwash which is aimed primarily at the magic roundabout that these scam sites use to wash the traffic around and around until ppl get bored and give up.
Scrapers basically. Won't be long now and Google will remove them. - CadMasterAdam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0this sucks.
nothing like ***** to fill your brower with - alittlemelty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0lame. so so lame.
- KNon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Old and lame
- WackyT, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Just plain lame.
- BT-Wang, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0but am I still going to have to vote and look at anime porn while I download them??
oh wait.. anime porn is fine by me and so is voting.. so.. just go ***** yourself.
