- rig0rmortis, on 10/11/2007, -7/+187Yes, and it's slow as hell as of now.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+130The sub-reply links disappeared!
Feature removed? - gfunk84, on 10/11/2007, -3/+83Looks like they changed it yet again so you don't have to click a link to load the replies...
- Mewchu11, on 10/11/2007, -3/+78This was once the most prized area in all the comment section, but just look at it now. OH THE HUMANITY!
- stupidverizon, on 10/11/2007, -4/+50lets see how small it can get.
- jayadelson, on 10/11/2007, -1/+43We'll post shortly... We had some issues that we're sorting out before we try rolling that out again.
- bomg31, on 10/11/2007, -4/+45out of the 7 comments supposedly on this entry. I See this one. So I'm replying to it :)
- Anonymous3, on 10/11/2007, -3/+43If the container box horizontally shrinks by 31px each time (starting at 718px), then apparently you can only have a thread depth of 24 before the box model breaks.
- Mewchu11, on 10/11/2007, -1/+38Sub reply was removed, and when the first story on this went popular it was immediately erased.
So enjoy it while it lasted, for all shreds of it are going to be destroyed. - swifty12, on 10/11/2007, -0/+36whats going on with these comments, first they have replies hidden, now they changed it to threaded? Are they just testing everything live?
- lengau, on 10/11/2007, -0/+32I think that was (at least partially) the point. Stops comment jacking.
- zeeky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+28EDIT: ok, this is definately NOT where i posted my comment... thats just messed up.
- shlolz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+29My head asplode.
- JCSaint, on 10/11/2007, -8/+34I'm not sure I like this... er, the jury's still out.
- blahtastic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22Ok, the threaded comment thing a good idea, the fact that you have to click to bring them up and wait an hour makes it absolutely worthless (currently fetching replies to first comment for over 2 minutes).
Really, I think an extra tab would have sufficed... - NSMike, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23Either digg is terribly slow from the tremendous sudden traffic due to people being deprived of their favorite Web 2.0 service for several hours (and desperately hunting for the changes), or this new comment system slows digg down to dial-up loading times.
- andrewcsayer, on 10/11/2007, -9/+29Im in ur digg server changin' ur commentz
- counterstriker, on 10/11/2007, -7/+23stop being so damn republican!
- Anonymous3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16Have subthread, will travel.
- borninda818, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17How cool :) I just replied to inbred....inbred?...WAIT NO...I DIDN'T...OMG I'M SO CONFUSED
they should make a way to move your comment within the 60 second time in case you comment in the wrong section. - c5mjohn, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17I might not have the popular opinion, but I have to say I really liked Digg's old comment system. I never had a problem understanding the threads and I really really liked the simple, no-nonsense design. (plus this new system is really slow, but that will be fixed eventually)
I honestly hope this design grows on me, but for now I am quite disappointed, and I don't think I'm the only one. - igraham09, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19Let me be the first (and most definitely not the last) to say... It's about ***** time.
- mastercheif, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Odd, I've seen 4 variations of digg today. Original, then to the one with fetching comments, then to one more like the original with sub threads, and now back to original?
- fyrehart, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Yeah, it's about time.
- lengau, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12[Comment jack]
While my server's busy and Digg is back on the old system...

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Fetching? I'm not so sure I want to go fetch.
- on9star, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Patrick : Hey Spongebob guess what I am?
Spongebob : I dunno Patrick, are you Digg's new commenting system?
Patrick : No I'm Stupid
Spongebob : Whats the difference? - cowboy77061, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I'm gonna say the truth, this new thread system blows.
- blahtastic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Replying to self...I looked for an option to show all comments, didn't see one. Is there one? If not, could we have one? Pretty please? I'll give the programmers cookies...
- lengau, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I didn't. Someone else did.
- lengau, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Apparently it's taking a few minutes now for comments to appear (it says "Please allow up to 60 seconds for your comment to be saved", but it seems like 2 or 3 minutes).
- VillaStraylight, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9We fear change.
- magikker, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10ok
- TritonX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Send them your code if it's so easy.
- Noctem, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Sweet! Welcome to the comment system on slashdot circa 1997!
- ggko, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7There's little need for that, your commented is nested under the person you're replying to.
The @user convention is because you, the person you're addressing/quoting, and 50 other people are all nested at the same level. - muzzle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Half the comments dont have a reply link :S Am I not understanding this thing or what?
- neilbakker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Yes, I've had to refresh the page to get the comments to show up....
- carguy84, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8a cache on the comments will present 2 problems:
1) users will resubmit not realizing there's a cache
2) As evident already, whoever hits the page to cache it, if done that way, is what everyone is going to see. Like now, I can only reply to certain posts because it seems whatever user cached the info, wasn't logged in. OR something's really f'd up
But, with a threaded comment system, trying to display comments in real-time would be a hardware and coding nightmare. - KennMac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7thread++
- rcran, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Did anyone else happen to see the strange futuristic/horribly ugly version of the comments UI abour two hours ago? It flashed for a few minutes and then was gone.
- AmnestyGenocide, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9works great. except that it doesn't work.
- bpapa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Honestly? This is a crappy feature. Mainly because there is comment abuse on every front page story (replies to the first comment so that your comment shows up first, even though it isn't a direct response to the first comment). And then it's not like the comment abusers get dugg down, since people just digg up and down the comments that they agree with.
- paulmike3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6thanks captain obvious
- potterboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Yes it did. I actually liked it.
- arcticblue, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I remember when Digg 2.0 came out... The very first article with the new comment system had sub-replies, but it disappeared after that first article (I'm pretty sure it was the article announcing Digg 2.0). Anyone feel like digging it up?
- Krippy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Yeah, that's what I was talking about in my comment above. I certainly prefer the one I am seeing right now, which is the old one.
- basye, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Some posts are showing a "reply to" button and some are not.
- JamesSaveker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5The developers must be quite upset if they had to back out of a significant code change. I wonder what testing stratergies are used prior to each new release?
