- Nezzari, on 10/12/2007, -6/+125Digg is a news site! Why must everyone and their grandma have 45 email accounts? Digg email would be completely pointless.
- handsomecrown, on 10/12/2007, -8/+114"why is yahoo still above google?"
Google has different domains for different countries (ex. www.google.cn, www.google.ca) while Yahoo keeps all countries under yahoo.com, just with a different subdomain (ex. www.cn.yahoo.com, www.ca.yahoo.com). Yahoo.com gets traffic from all countries, while google.com is primarily US traffic. - scrubadub, on 10/12/2007, -18/+97Yes then we could all internet each other over the tubes.
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+53Marked Inaccurate - and the author even admits it.
"The Google URL is wrong, there are only about 120.000 sites linking to digg.com, see http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=link%3Adigg.com
(make sure link: and digg.com aren't separated by a space!!)

Oops! I didn't notice that. I got the wrong results. I will update the post to alert folks and also the digg. I will also recompile the list to see where Digg really comes at.
Credit goes to Bob Coret for catching my error. Many thanks Bob.

- Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Gee this guy's submitted one article and its to his own blog
- Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26No, but i do find it ironic when i have ten thousand spoons when all i need is a knife.
- earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23The ironic thing is Digg is simply a site that links to others for its content
- Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Yeah, in the original article he gives only a brief explanation on how he came to his results. Who is this guy? What makes him able to declare Digg is the 4th most linked site on the web?
- strkt9, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18I am getting tired of all the navel-gazing at digg. I don't come to digg to read about digg.
- Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Come on, be serious, they should even have a Digg section at Digg telling all Digg users how much they use Digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12ITS NOT 7TH
ITS NOT 10TH
AND ITS NOT 20TH
wtf
Go to http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/ and check for yourself. There are a million sites with more links than digg. This whole thing is wrong. - warbird, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@handsomecrown
Thats only partially true. I know atleast in Japan, it is yahoo.co.jp. I'm not sure about other countries. - KevinJB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"For instance on google, digg.com gets 120,000 results but through msn it is 585,623."
Note: Google only displays SOME of the links it knows about. It could very well return 2 links and have six million in its database. This is a well known 'feature', so you can't trust Google to return the number of links to a site it has in it's database. - Aggort, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6That's not ironic, it's merely coincidental
- mozzep, on 10/12/2007, -12/+17borninda818
No. - alexzhao, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6how is wikipedia not on that list
- cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My God. RTFA ppl. Yahoo is higher than Google:
a.) Because Google uses different domain names and Yahoo uses subdomains
b.) Because Yahoo uses Alex in its toolbar
c.) Magical fairies said so, so it must be true.
d.) None of the above.
This article is fairly inaccurate, because it is randomly scouting for popular the most popular URL at each website for its numbers, and then using Google to guage which URLs are most popular from an assortment of websites. Marked inaccurate to say the least. Alexa, with its own bias, isn't anywhere near as unscientific as this is. Link popularity, especially using Google is a very

- KevinJB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4OMFG!1! DIGG FTW!
- heresy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think it is funny that this story keeps getting dugg even after the gross inaccuracies have been pointed out over and over.
- yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2what do you guys expect? this is digg.
- TylerC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4using the same "Link:" feature on Google, the search for digg.com over and over came back with different results on half.
At one point it cam back twice as much as Google. This is not accurate. - strkt9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4How come this story is still on the front page 5 hours later? It is inaccurate and there must have been hundreds of people to have reported it as such. He posted an inaccurate story to his own blog. If he were a real writer he would have been fired.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Here's what I posted on his blog:
Your data cannot be correct and who are you to say what is the most linked to site on the 'net?
For instance on google, digg.com gets 120,000 results but through msn it is 585,623.
How do you know which is correct? Whenever i look for links to my blog i never use google because it only gets around a third of the results msn does.
More the best results I'd suggest using something like DogPile (google, yahoo, msn merged).
So you don't actually have any proof that your data is correct, you're just relying on a google search.
sorry mate. - Twango, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah ... but Google strives for accuracy, while Yahoo strives for hype.
*Cough* - Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4yeah, i agree. It would be nice if the Digg guys made it easier to search the archives.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3One more thing, if you guys want to check on your own, go to http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/
(not my site) - samthegecko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It would be cool to have a digg email address, but I think that digg should just stick to what they're doing now.
Keep up the great work! - evolseven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I didnt say others couldnt complain, but when its a community driven website, the community gets what it wants as a whole, individual tastes may not be catered too.. complain all you want.. i just said im tired of people being on a site and then complaining how it is ran.. if they dont enjoy said design then maybe they should design/find one which suits them better, or petition the owners to change the design.
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2 This is like a snake eating its own tail. Is digg going to digg itself and implode because of this story?
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This is not correct at all.
See this screen shot for link pop examples with digg. Slashdot has many more links pointing at it.
http://jwpincorporated.com/digg.JPG - leftfoot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Forget Alexa. Based on links Digg.com is the 4th most popular site on the web. Beating even AOL.com and cnet.com. Netscape.com, newsvine.com and reddit.com don't even come close."
Well, Netscape.com was a given... - SuperCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone who believes this is an idiot. I mean, think about it. How often have you clicked on a link that brought you to digg, rather than the other direction?
Seriously. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Oh BTW, those stats are for Yahoo, MSN, HotBot and Google total links.
HotBot is the one showing zero, I dont know whats wrong with hotbot at the moment, for some reason it doesnt show any site having backlinks.
Point is, this article is wrong, marked at inaccurate. - jacobo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Digg.com : 120,000
Yahoo.com : 1,890,000
Cnet.com : 804,000
according to google... - Bibimbap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some people use a high resolution and can't read microprint like that. In the event that an ignorant "designer" ignored us, we often scale the font size up. In the event that tables start overlapping making it impossible to read data, we give up.
Please fix your site so 1920x1440 people can read it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Not even close by any standard. Grow up. Get real.
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Maybe it's because so many people are digg-whoring their links on other sites?
- av4rice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They're measuring links (the things you click on), not usage
Even if you always followed links to get to different Google services, each one only counts once. A million people clicking the same link each day doesn't change the fact that there's just one link. How often do people actually LINK to Google? Not very. Yahoo has in-house content like Yahoo News and Yahoo Games that people directly link to. People tell others to "google" something, on the other hand, and they just type it in. No link is used in this case, so even though it may occur far more often, it can't be measured on this linked-to scale. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3ay, i just checked out reddit.com how long has it been out? looks very similar to digg?
- etechonline2002, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hahahaha netscape is below Digg. thats like saying go F@ck ur self. its great. digg is a good site. they are not.
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Actually, I take it back. I find it hard to believe that digg is the #7 most linked to site on the internet with so many older, more established sites around that people have been linking to for years.
- shenzhen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1try looking at all the news outlets around the world like ap, reuters, cnn, and all the national newspapers like the guardian, usa today, the australian, the times, post and mail, china daily, xinhua!!. and most of these have been around for 10 years.
I think digg would be down to about 1000 in reality. - D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2so yeah when i looked at that it said Digg was 7.....or am I just stupid about reading that graph?
- TravisS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yahoo is number 1 because I think the yahoo toolbar has alexa in it or whatever, google is actually frequented more then yahoo from what I have heard.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Think about it...read these comments. You are being mocked by hte DIGG COMMUNITY! that is like soeone on Saved By the Bell being mdae fun of by Screech! The biggest losers are making fun of YOU! Wow! How sad you've let your life become!
I honestly can't imagine how you've staved off suicide THIS long! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Google Ads or not, the very fact that you think that anyone will EVEr give a flying ***** aboiut AQNYTHING you will EVEr have to say shows the kind of person you are. The intenretis like you real life. No one cares about you and no one EVER will. You arew better off dead so your loved ones (if any) can collect the insurance policy. After all, they are just waiting for you to die anyway. So just help it along. You are worhtless, and will NEVER be otherwise. This post proved that.
- Twango, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah but those links are VETTED by YOU!
