- pmace, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40Outstanding, and thank you to everyone here who either dug this story or went to the site. My 22 month old daughter has SMA Type II and the general awareness this movie is raising about SMA is great.
Her doctor told us she'd be dead by age 5, but the more we talk to people and see things like this, the more hope we have. - greenbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23this has got be one of the best things I've heard all year long.
- Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Sever seems to be dieing, image backup : http://www.pichut.org/up/diggbackup.JPG

- Nick5768, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"I am happy for them as we are good friends and about the same size (the Penguins and me of course)."
ROFL! It's good to see that he's able to make light of his "disability". I know that's something that has helped me deal with being diabetic. - RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Agreed. Docs are not fortune tellers. Prognosis is always statistical. This man clearly beat the odds, but that doesn't mean the odds were inaccurate. Besides, people take bad news in different ways. Some become hopeless, some become determined. Maybe hearing the bad news is what motivated him to fight and survive?
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Awesome. I am also underweight due to my multiple physical disabilities (Nager's Syndrome). I used to weight less than 80 lbs for a 5'2" college student. :(
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4this is awsome. although i don't really get going to see the doctor. is that supposed to make him look like some bad guy because he said the kid was probably gonna die?
- swifty12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4check out his blog- http://www.39poundsoflove.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/53/Default.aspx
- mv1008, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I went to the website (http://www.39poundsoflove.com) and saw the trailer and this movie looks great. At the end some people in s trailer are playing la cucaracha and he says, "I hate this song." lmao. I'm actually going to buy this movie.
- RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What a refreshingly positive and inspiring story. We should remember this man the next time any of us feels like whining about our obstacles.
- Jerky1312, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm with kleymen, I also sensed some resentment towards the original doctor. What's the point of finding the doctor? Is it to say "...in your face, I survived longer than you expected."? If so, I don't agree with that. Doctors are supposed to give their educated opinion to the family on what they believe might be an eventual and early death. If your child lives longer than that, that's great. There is no reason to be angry with the doctor though. Other than that, this is a good story. The guy has talent and a great sense of humor. He's an inspiration to those with similar disabilities, that you can live a meaningful and enjoyable life.
- bonoes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Agreed. That's why it's called a practice. Nothing is absolute.
- benhiler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5what is the link for the orginal digg
- humbledstrength, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, it's a really touching story. I'm going to have to watch it sometimes. It goes to show that people really do have a heart sometimes.

- kalphegor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2thanks, i save this for the history sake
- Wilcox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am glad to see that the big media companies are getting the word spread that digg is becoming just as big as someone like slashdot.
Good press for digg. - PrettyBoyFloyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey, if any documentary film needs a Digg effect, it's "A/K/A Tommy Chong," a wonderfully inspiring film about the U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft's persecution of everybody's favorite stoner and the astonishing courage he showed in the face of his tormentors. If your only impression of Tommy Chong is limited to the blissed out character he's portrayed in films and television all these years, you will be surprised at the emotional strength and love for his family that is displayed in this film. It's amazing that he kept his sense of humor throughout the ordeal of it all.
It has also been making the film festival circuit like "39 pounds of Love" and won the Jury Prize for Best Documentary at the Aspen Film Festival as well as the audience prize for Best Documentary at the San Francisco Independent Film Festival (where I first saw it). Check out the website at http://www.akatommychong.com to see the trailer and details about any upcoming screenings. The film is seeking a distribution deal (as well as potential investors), so if you want to be a part of getting this story out to the world, click that link and drive some traffic to the site. Folks underestimate the abilities of my clients all the time. Mostly people just want a chance to work and 'live' like everyone else.
- Syndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This guy is a real inspiration and just gives me a wakeup to how lucky I am.

Maybe it's just me.
- fredclown, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Great, good for him. Maybe he can make a documentary about all the innocent Palestinians that would have had healthy lives if his kind wasn't slaughtering them wholesale, leaving so many dead and cripples and a gutted shell of a nation with its land stolen. Especially since they seem to shoot to kill foreign filmmakers from Britain."
What about the Palestinians planting bombs in buses killing hundreds of Israelis? Blame is on both side. And what do you mean by "his kind"? Oh are you talking about all the handicapped people killing Palestinians? I totally agree. Those handicapped people need to be stopped. - tapo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Damn! You've discovered my secret!
Yes, it is I, who invented Dirtyfratboy out of cotton, deer *****, and string. How he functions is even a miracle to myself, but I continute to stroke my ego nonetheless. His goal was to start with Digg, and eventually become a correspondant with the Washington Post, and then...CONQUER THE WORLD!
But no! Your superior intellect has blindsided me frontpage, and you have ruined my grand, evil scheme for world domination/a hell of a lot of digg submissions!
But dont think this ends here. By god, I WILL BE BACK! - corkster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Oh boy, I'm sure the doctor felt realllly stupid when Ami rolled into his house. *rolleyes*
Seriously, I'm sure it's not the only mistake the doctor made in his entire career. - alexgreggs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Thank you Digg!! I love when the little guy gets some attention!
- CutthroatMan, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2That's really cool, DIGG IT!
