- upick, on 01/18/2009, -2/+57I hate to say it but there's some really unnecessary ads on digg, I wish they were more targeted so I would at least attempt to click on them
- TheAttacks, on 01/18/2009, -0/+54Digg's advertising is horrible and non-relevant to which portion of the site you are viewing (AKA, viewing "Gaming News"? No gaming-related ads to be seen).
- Llanowar, on 01/19/2009, -2/+45Obligatory "Digg has ads?"
- lynosull, on 01/18/2009, -0/+41Nice find. It got me to wondering how much ad revenue in total is really out there. Are all commercial based websites now competing for an ever dwindling ad-space money supply? If so, then companies will eventually have to shut down or be bought out -- the simple economics of free market capitalism will force the market towards merger, acquisition, and consolidation. What will happen to digg.com in such a competitive market for human time?
- AmyVernon, on 01/19/2009, -12/+42Never would have seen this; I have AdBlock Plus. ;-)
- junkneo, on 01/18/2009, -1/+17Guess what Digg.org will be like.
- frieddonuts, on 01/19/2009, -1/+16His friends activity shows over 50,000 entries. That's ridiculous...how many friends do you have?
- vibrokatana, on 01/19/2009, -1/+12You would pay to access digg?

Annoying ***** adverts like these are probably the reason we use adblolck plus. I know for one I don't use it to be "self righteous". - hmunkey, on 01/19/2009, -1/+11Digg will be fine. Sites with MASSIVE user-bases will always be fine, because if all else fails a big company like MS or Google will jump to purchase it.
- masterc, on 01/19/2009, -0/+9No, it has ads.
- mokakid, on 01/18/2009, -4/+13interesting
- MavRevMatt, on 01/19/2009, -1/+9I never said that.
But if they can't ever turn a profit from ads, mostly because of AdBlock users, what else can they do? Either close down, or charge people a monthly fee, neither of which is good. - TommyTikal, on 01/19/2009, -0/+8I just don't like ads...
- terenceyap7, on 01/18/2009, -0/+7I like the synergistic approach by StumbleUpon; this is so much better isolating each other!
- wontstoptalking, on 01/19/2009, -0/+7I'm not the advertising kind, but this person's blog that he/she mentions in the Flickr description is actually pretty awesome.....well, maybe not awesome, but DEFINITELY better than the crap floating around nowadays.

http://www.fanboy.com/tech - ileftfark, on 01/19/2009, -1/+8I like using Digg and SU (and reddit, too), but both Digg and SU have suffered from people gaming the system. I think the basic of idea of both systems is great - like-minded people coming together to share things they've found that they think others will find interesting. But unfortunately, both systems are weighted by "friends" who can skew actual interest levels, such that those atop the system can essentially 'feed' us content, whether or not it is something we would have found or enjoyed otherwise. I can't tell you how many pages on SU I've stumbled that are in Russian or Polish, or are obvious blogspam. Using the toolbar, I'll report them as such, so that others interested in finding relevant content don't have similar issues, and you see who "thumbs-upped" a site, and it becomes clear that most of these people simply bumped a submission for the promise of a similar reaction. There's no way the 93 US stumblers that thumbs-upped a site speak Romanian enough to enjoy the subtleties of the joke or whatever it is the site deals with, not to mention the fact that I have en-US only specified. When I get weary of the Digg Power users being the gatekeepers of information here, I'll go stumble... only to come across obvious blogspam Stumbled by zaibatsu or msaleem. I understand these guys put a lot of time into what they do, but I just wish submissions here and on SU would become popular based on merit rather than the fact that the person submitting has a thousand friends.
/rant - AlanFang, on 01/19/2009, -3/+9Digg has aids? WTF I should go get tested.
- celistina, on 01/18/2009, -0/+6This definitely provides more scale!
- MavRevMatt, on 01/19/2009, -0/+6Why not just selectively block ads, or ad server addresses, of those which are obnoxious?
- ileftfark, on 01/19/2009, -0/+5I'm so *****, then :(
- leodavinci, on 01/19/2009, -4/+8I disable AdBlock on sites I visit regularly, including Digg. But some of the ads really make me reconsider, as there is no way I will ever click any of them. I'm not interested in some ***** dating service!
The ads on Slashdot are much better, and I actually click through on at least a couple every month. - hiro, on 01/19/2009, -0/+4I wish the recent crop of people using "AKA" would learn what it means and how to use it!
- twiztidsinz, on 01/19/2009, -1/+5Could you say Digg's Ad Service is..... STUMBLING?
- MavRevMatt, on 01/19/2009, -0/+4545
http://digg.com/users/michaelpinto/friends/view - redwallhp, on 01/19/2009, -0/+3The Redditers need to pool their money and buy an ad here too. :P
- michaelpinto, on 01/19/2009, -5/+8But you're a content person! How come you don't support your own kind?
- inactive, on 01/19/2009, -1/+4Adblock Plus.
- jason210, on 01/19/2009, -0/+3I have adblock so i don;t get pop up windows and annoyed constantly.
- skuzzed, on 01/19/2009, -0/+3"I know the Digg and StumbleUpon can coexist peacefully."
- leahcim, on 01/19/2009, -0/+2You say Digg will be fine, but Digg has yet to make profitable year where its not bleeding money. Eventually the money will dry up.
- anitafagina, on 01/20/2009, -0/+2When digg gives you AIDs, make lemon-AIDs!
- Lewie, on 01/19/2009, -1/+3Not HIV?
- AlanFang, on 01/19/2009, -6/+8Wow you're so ***** amazing you can install a firefox plugin and brag to everyone on the internet about it. Seriously I think half the reason people get adblock is so they can act like self righteous and spread their cult like ways to others.
- MikeSobe, on 01/19/2009, -0/+2Digg is not doing so well in terms of revenue...
http://digg.com/tech_news/Digg_s_Miserable_Busines ... - MavRevMatt, on 01/19/2009, -0/+2@jason, yeah that'll go over well. They won't loose any members because of that.
/s - MavRevMatt, on 01/19/2009, -5/+7So do you expect Digg to remain free forever?
- Kitarist, on 01/19/2009, -0/+2yep they should "melt" together :D :D
- Vindexus, on 01/19/2009, -0/+2I love StumbleUpon. I've used it to find plenty of useful resources and tutorials for web development.
- Saphes, on 01/19/2009, -1/+2"A friend is someone who knows everything about you and likes you anyway...his list just dropped to 98.6
- djphatjive, on 01/19/2009, -2/+4I used Adblock Plus on here for a while. Then I decided that I liked this site and I chose to support it by turning it off on this site so they can get the revenue. Turn it off on sites you like.
- umbrellainabin, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1re-directs to YouShare
- rterminator69, on 01/19/2009, -1/+2No.
- verysmartncool, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1Oh my I missed it.
Thank you ad bloker plus :) - o3man, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1Well, next we might see DEADsearch advertise on Google.
- leodavinci, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1Yeah, I could, but I really don't feel like micromanaging what ads I see and don't see. I generally just allow ads on sites that I like and want to support, I don't want it to become a process that takes 5 minutes for each and every site.
- sugablonde, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1like 15? i don't really know because i don't really care...
- sugablonde, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1whoa, somebody's moody!
- MightyUpsetter, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1No - people get adblock because ads are annoying.
