- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -9/+736I was hoping the vertical list format was a rendering error, not a UI change. It doesn't look well thought out and creates too much dead space in that area.
- nebari, on 10/12/2007, -8/+409@UGM2099
Absolutely concur - the spacing is *horrible* and wastes far too much space. Uggh, bad bad bad. - robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -3/+184No, the new spam is up top, next to the title of this story on the right.
- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -2/+180Let's be honest -- it's to make more room for advertising space on the right.
It may be a bit easier to read, but that's not the real reason for the change... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+124"...creates too much dead space in that area."
Not "dead" so much when you stuff it full of ADS ADS ADS!!! - simplenation, on 10/12/2007, -14/+128how does digg proftit with just diggnation ads?
- aschmack, on 10/12/2007, -4/+111I was wondering what that was.
Adblock ftw - Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+88"What ads?"
I think he might be referring to that big huge empty white space that you and I see. - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -12/+90Ads? What ads? All I see is a white box with a grey stroke in the top-right corner.
- polymorphist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+76The UI is still quite crappy IMO...when I reply to some comment I want the comment box right below the comment I was replying to, but it still jumps down to the bottom of the page, which is very annoying.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -19/+86I'm terribly upset about this "upgrade". I'm on a wdiesceen format and have lost a lot of vertical space. Its totally affected my whole user experience! The ridiculous spacing on the story info is actually a pathetic attempt to compensate for the new adsense box they've added on the right. This "upgrade" is NOT about us, its about Digg's bottomline!!!
WHERE IS KEVIN??? THIS CANT BE HIS IDEA! - aroundtheblock, on 11/06/2008, -9/+73needs moar built-in dugg mirror link.. I have the firefox extension but would still be nice for when I'm not using my computer
- MattL920, on 10/12/2007, -7/+68What they should do is put that in some sort of pane that you can expand or collapse. Right now with it always expanded it does create too much dead space, but if it were something that I could take a look at and then hide if I wanted to it'd be better.
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -3/+63Wow. You'd think the first new "feature" people notice would be the new irritating ads they've added.
- carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+541) The new vertical article info was clearly done to provide a 300x250 ad spot to the right. 300x250 is now the most popular ad size, and google just finished a huge push to Adsense publishers to get them to show more of these ad blocks.
2) I was annoyed before when I'd be logged out every other day or so, but being logged out every 15 minutes is killing the experience.
3) The site still locks up my computer on pages with comments > 200. Locks it up for about 10-15 seconds, without fail. (AMD 4600x2, 2GB, Fresh XP install)
4) I like the fact you can pick out your comments easier, but I wish they stood out a little better still
5) Any chance search has been upgraded too? - Pimpalicious316, on 10/12/2007, -5/+51comment abuse to point out an issue.
the "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" icons need to be fixed. when they appear on a comment you have made, the corners are visible. see here:

it's minor, but just felt like contributing :) - razorsharp84, on 10/12/2007, -3/+47feedback@digg.com
- Mihai12345, on 10/12/2007, -3/+45Adblock Plus
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/ - HellifIno, on 10/12/2007, -5/+42Personal opinion:
Doublespacing the info just makes it take up more space. There is no reason to do so. Why make information that MOST users are going to skip take up twice the space it needs to? It's nearing 3x the space.
Hell, I was kinda OK about the previous format. All the info was there, ya just had to look at it. Yeah, and it took up less space. - Angostura, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34... and yet they are still unable to produce properly threaded comments.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -7/+34And YET AGAIN, my request for having our own comments highlighted goes ignored.
WTF Digg Staff?! Why won't you do this? It's already in the code to highlight friends comments...can't be that hard to make a new color for our own comments! - misterpony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26The colors in the comment boxes have changed, also.
- andrewcod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Something else I've noticed since submitting this story - whenever you post a comment, the title bar which appears just above it is slightly enlarged and darkened for yourself.
- neoform, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25who needs threaded commenting when you can use @someguy in your messages? ;)
- clawoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Wow, what a big update. How about threaded comments?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23I have to login like every 10 minutes now since this update. Anybody else having this problem?
- Decimit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Do we really need a comment discussing the need of a post telling about a few moved lines on the page?
- KnightMareInc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21digg keeps logging me out, weird update
- DatoeDakari, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Yea, thats nice, I've been waiting for that, it's been hard to find my comment among hundreds of them.
@ robbh66
What ads? - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21One thing I've noticed with this new UI update is that the default comment threshold is now +0, instead of -4.
- WiBu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23They should have done something like this if they wanted more ads...
http://www.errr.com/downloads/diggpostui.png - MasteRR, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22If it was the fault of the computer then every website would do that, not just digg. And no, it's not a 386, and no, i'm not the only one with the problem.
- MasteRR, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Did they fix any of the problems with computers slowing to a crawl for 15-20 seconds every time a dig page is is loaded (or just switching to a tab with digg loaded)?
- Atom, on 10/12/2007, -10/+29And so it begins. We all knew it was only a matter of time that digg would change from a site about users and their information to ads and their revenue. Its only going to get worse from here on out.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21[Reply Abuse]
Just threw together a UserStyle to undo some of the changes :: http://userstyles.org/style/show/1773
Removes the adverts, and gives the comments a bit more space. It's not complete yet, I've still to sort the overly-padded comment-headers, and I'll try and make the Submission-details how they were before
- Ben - IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Stating the obvious maybe, but looks like there's a new font for the headlines.
- IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24I don't support the idea of removing the numbers of popular stories you've had, next to your name when you digg something.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I totally thought this was just a rendering error this morning....I don't like this change, it doesn't look more modern, it makes it look more "Web 1.0"...see what happens when Kevin gets in a commercial? it all goes to his head
- aerojad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19All hail adblock.
- misterpony, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25Everything seems to be faster, too!
- bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16@simplenation
more people watch diggnation more godaddy pays them. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18"the "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" icons need to be fixed. when they appear on a comment you have made, the corners are visible. see here:"
Same with the star when a friend digg up your comment. - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Well my profile is still set to the default -4, so it looks like this is a bug in the new templates that's overriding the default setting.
- echo1, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21CHANGE IT BACK.
seriously, it was so much easier on the eyes before. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18@Chewie, you're exactly right.
- MasteRR, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Bad change, IMO. Hide a comment because one person disagrees with you and is quick on the draw? Maybe -2 would have been better.
- IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Your comment's box is dark blue, unlike the other boxes.
- spin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13@DatoeDarki
You should use the find feature of your browser. In Firefox, you can hit / then start typing your nick and then use F3 to jump to the next match. Also, in most browsers you can start the find feature by pressing Ctrl+F - everfresh59, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Finally......more ad space, I was beginning to wonder what the hell Digg was doing with this site and all of it's clicks......
- DigiDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Did anyone notice that now when you digg a story -- next to your name the number of front page stories you have doesn't appear next to your icon.
That total number does appear in your user profile. But your overall ranking is completely gone now.
I didn't complain too much when they removed the top digger list. But this, I think, is going to far. I have no context for my own profile now. Am I a good social bookmarker? I don't know -- I have no way to compare myself to anyone else.
Not having a glorified list is one thing -- maybe it'll fight spam or gaming or whatever, but taking away the ranking system completely: I think that just takes away the experience of Digg. -
