- Yashar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+41Congratulations Digg! This is going to be the first million of many more millions!
- VtmnR, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22I'm drinkin' to Digg tonight!!! :D
- Fascist, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Here's to 2 million and beyond...
Bottoms up! - nuclearpenguins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16How many were dupes?
- striker1211, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18"Of course, 999,999 of them were about James Kim."
Funny... but too soon. Maybe if you said iPod or Colbert? - coreyb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Link to the 1 Millionth story:

the title says it all. - allenu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9But how many were dupes?
- stevesearer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yes, it is not necessary to click through in order to like this story. I only linked to my blog because I wrote up how users can tell how many stories have been submitted. :)
- lb3ll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8yay lets crash another million sites due to the digg effect now!
- phezz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8A rough guess is looking at the "All stories This year"
There are 1950 pages x 15 stories a page
So that's 29250
Also a year ago there were less pages making the front page compared to now, so I think you could add a couple thousand to that?
So lets say 33,333 stories from 1,000,000
Sound right? - election, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10ironic.
Charles who submitted the 1000000th story:

PROFILE:

Promoted Stories: 1 (see all)
Promoted Stories Ratio: 1%
Profile Views: 132 - inetman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I'm guessing the majority of those 1 million are spam. The good thing about Digg is I never have to see them.
- Crowforge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Half of it is crap, a third is repeats, happy birthday.
- FastZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So this counts in the 500,000 SPAM stories as well right?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7thumbs up to all diggers who contributed to 1 Million
- Swampthing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm guessing at least 750,000 of those stories were dupes. Duping has gotten so far out of control it's overtaken the digg system now. Used to be one or two dupes, now a big story generates 10-15 dupes.
- CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10That's really good news. In the nearly 14 months I've been Digging, I enjoyed many stories but barely scratched the surface of all those cool stories and it's sad to know that I missed so many gems. In return, I will also try to give back to the community by hunting for those stories that make us all want to return to the pages of Digg time and time again. Let's all pitch in....here's to hitting 10 million!! Cheers to Digg!
- KickyG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+61,000,000. lotta stories. lotta blog spam and dupes. w00t!
- djliquidice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4^^^ and a total of ~40% pure ***** and blog postings.
- wisewaif, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yes, true. That's what great about digg, total democracy. But not total crap.
- coreyb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5But really, how many were dupes? (not a dupe)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Top quality stories my ass.
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Submissions can be bad/lame/spam/dupe"
And front page stories aren't? Do a reality check. - sidro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just edited the wikipedia article on digg...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digg#Timeline - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The worst part about duping now is that there are so many people that just hit Digg once a week, if you mention dupes they -digg you into oblivion. The reasoning goes that 'dude I haven't seen it so it's new to me'. Dummies.
- hollywoodone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4And a million more to come.
- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3er, yeah, im drinking to digg too tonight!
but its not like I wasnt going to in the first place! - Tenetri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4To see what # were at, click the "Bury" button (not kidding). Highlight one of the options, look at your browsers Status bar. It will say
javascript:rjp(1000034,8,1)
for this post. The 1000034 is the # of that submission. Happy digging - treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6And I'm going to guess that 90% of the remaining stories were SPAM so...
1,000,000 - 33,333 = 966,667
0.9 * 966,667 = 870,000
870,000 SPAM stories sounds about right :) - TekeeTakShak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If you think about it, that's 1,000,000 news articles/interesting forms of entertainment. I don't think I've had 1,000,000 interesting things in my whole life! Damn >_>
- DardanAeneas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm not celebrating submissions. Submissions can be bad/lame/spam/dupe. I'll celebrate when we hit Front Page milestones.
- philovivero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sure. I'll bite. The number of stories promoted to the front page* is roughly 59,500 (not exactly, but by the time I press the "submit comment" button it'll be different anyway - you guys are always busy).
How did I come to this number? It has something to do with being able to do "select count(*)" in the Digg production databases.
Thanks to the community for getting out there and making Digg the most kickassest site to work for and read daily! You guys are the best.
*Keep in mind that "promoted to the front page" isn't necessarily an indication of quality in your personal value set, nor does a story not being promoted to front page necessarily indicate lack of quality. In my own digging history, there are a number of items that didn't hit front page, for example, and I'll bet you've seen at least one front page story you didn't think deserved it. - Crepsley, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5High Five!!!
It's Nice!
Sexy Time! - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, that's more than a billion!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yay! And nearly half the stories do not contain any of the words "Apple", "Microsoft", "Wii", or "Ubuntu"!
- civilwarlord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One million submissions, and most of them are about ubuntu and how it's the best thing since sliced bread.
- rcran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wouldn't it be cool if this post WAS the millionth?
- Shuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess this signifies a new era in digital, user-powered news. One thing I love about Digg are that the stories are a healthy mix of funny, weird, political, technological, and scientific news. It's a little bit on the geeky/tech side, but I'm a geek so that makes it all the better! I guess its a testament to its users. Here's to Digg!
- Onwlyix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Woot. I dun care how much of it was spam but it's still a huge milestone!
GO DIGG! - rockefeller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But does it come with the pussy magnet?
- BlueInGreen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11000000GET!!!!
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How many of these stories are reports and so forth? :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1woot!! So lets archive 750,000 articles so we can speed up that search now!!
- zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One million story submissions... The real question is how many more we'll get submitting there were one million story submissions?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1w00t !
