- chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -12/+139digg, google, and submitted by kevin rose.. hm.. i wonder if this will make the front page? ;)
- kevinrose, on 10/12/2007, -11/+108nice icon, looks strange seeing it on that side of the comments..ha'
- deltaechoromeo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+81Google just got that much smarter. I like the idea of professionals being able to find things that are relevant to their jobs with every search.
- kevinrose, on 10/12/2007, -8/+58hold tight all - looks like they are rolling it out tonight - try again in another 30 mins or so...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41For those who don't know.. this is what it does..
http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/4597/z2sv.jpg - seaner, on 10/12/2007, -6/+39It is great to see Digg even more mainstream and on Google.
- jayadelson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29I will offer some counter points to this, in that it did require a relationship with Google. First off, Google selected some partners to pre-code the feature for today's release. It was not just an announcement of a specification to which we coded and crossed our fingers. Second, because we were first, it required a long, detailed relationship with Google as they developed the specifications and we helped engineer the code on our side, tested it prior to release, and ensured a smooth roll out. We were very happy to have been able to engage with Google directly in this process. More importantly, we're lucky to have Eli on our team who does a fantastic job coding. Good work, man.
This is not to say others can't create co-op modules, they can, absolutely. However, speaking from the inside, I can say we enjoyed the partnership with Google to make it happen and are honored to be first in line.
I never would use the word "victory" or "moving up in the world,"...though still I think it's pretty cool. :) - chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26my uncle's dog is named doogle.. and diggle sounds like it might be illegal in 37 states..
- beelz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22digg + google = rocks
- dirtyfratboy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21Google + Digg = Googg? Doogle?
Either way, the future is here. - grendel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18^ I'm not messaging none of you.
And I dont want none of you to message me.
Digg works as is.
Lets not turn it into some crappy forum. - relinquish, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I like the sound of Doogle. Or maybe even Diggle.
- Vixenbergen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I don't know why people see this as moving up in the world, or having "mad - hookups" with google. This is not an affiliation or partnership with Google in any way.
Look at this feature as just another one of Google's apps, like Gmail, Google Calender, etc. This is Google Co-Op, and it's just another service. I could make any website in 5 minutes, sign up with Google Co Op, and google will search within my website and show relevant results with user's searches (who are subscribers). Not to detract from Digg's "victory" but judged on the comments, this is way overblown. - mecanabis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15its not really a partnership. anyone can sign up. but its still a nice feature
- jgee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I'm a little confused, I see what this is supposed to do, but is it working right now? I tried a google search, and came up empty handed..Can someone please explain this, its a bit unclear.
- vexter, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17That really is a nice addition to google. I wonder how long before it starts to annoy me?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9wow, digg is currently the only news source for google co-op!
http://www.google.com/coop/directory?cx=news
i'm just realizing how perfect this is. when i'm searching for something tech related on google, i want to able to see what everyone else considers to be the best resource! this is so perfect. - Universal, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Why didn't I think of that? ;)
Neat-O. Digg - immure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Also make sure you're using the .com address, for me .co.uk doesn't work.
(Compare http://www.google.com/search?q=linux to http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=linux) - deltaechoromeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It adds some extra searches at the top of your Google Search Results. Those results can be personalized by subscribing to some content providers that Google has programmed in, like Digg, or People Magazine, or the Mayo Clinic. So you find searches that are more relevant to your interests.
- tysonhy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14This is great stuff, I subscribed to it. Also, it's great to see how much digg is expanding!
- chesterjosiah, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7MOD ramibotros up. He's responding to N080dy's comment, "Absolutely, this is a great move for both." In other words, ramibotros is just staying that this isn't a Google-Digg partnership like Google did with Sony for the Da Vinci Code contest. Anyone can create a co-op.
Anyway, I just did a Google search for Miyamoto tennis in search of that recent post on digg with the video of Miyamoto playing tennis on Wii. None of the normal Google search results had it, but lo and behond at the top, in green! The co-op link had the digg post I was looking for. :-) Brilliant! This means that I will no longer need to go to Digg to search for a story I previously read. I CAN JUST SEARCH FOR DIGG STORIES ON GOOGLE.Kinda scary, but still. . . . Brilliant! - pedrobeltrao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It looks like when you subscribe to a co-op provider Google creates a user profile for you. You can edit your profile info and for example upload a picture to represent your avatar. I figure that's how the pictures got there.
http://www.google.com/coop/manage/profile - goob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Whenever you search for something on Google, the results page will have a few relevant Digg stories at the top that have something to do with whatever you just searched for.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's working, albeit imperfectly. For example, if I type "playstation 3", I get no digg results, but if I enter just "playstation", I do. I haven't seen a multi-word search string show the Co-op feature yet.
It sounds cool, though. - setec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Digg is great but I don't use google by itself. Dogpile gives better search results because it provides more than google.com. So, although this partnership will help Digg, its not something I really need or want to use.
- crispyart, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6i hope/pray that would never happen. myspace im is bad enough.
- Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Cool. This will probably turn me into even more of a digg whore.
What exactly is Google Co-op? Will it be a social-networking type thing or just little add-ons to your results pages? - micsco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What I wanna know is how far this content gets integrated. Right now its just a onebox result, but will they start to tune the results so that our search results become more and more adjusted using this new coop tool, and the existing Personalised Search Results.
Oh and WOW!!! No [BETA] tag??? - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6It's working for me. I typed a common Digg term and saw results under the Sponsored Results box.
Nice, Kevin et. al.! - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Ummm can somebody give me a little background on what the frick this little google app is?
- curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Yeah it is up and running now for me...Very nice to see Google, the large corporation that it is, recognizing Internet start-ups, just as they were once upon a time at Stanford University! This will definitely be a useful addition. Thanks Kevin and company!
- Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Shouldn't your search site do that already?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3obvious, but make sure you're signed in :D
- tedwardo2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5He's right. It's not a partnership. It's more of a... co-op.
- Eloom123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@immure thats exactly what it is, my defult is the .com.au site, I went to just .com and now it works. I guess I'll have to wait for .au to catch up!
- EliW, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7If your search doesn't return any results, then try again. As Kevin stated it's still being rolled out and service may be a little intermittent this evening.
- ypct, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can somebody englighten me how those people got their photo icons into Google?
Example: http://www.google.com/coop/subscribers?user=017771777217723414381&start=220 - Wilson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I followed the hyperlink but I see no way to subscribe.
EDIT: Oops, Adblock Plus and Filterset.G blocked the Subscribe button. - regriff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm diggin' it. It's a nice feature to have. It adds flare to my daily google searches. Thanks Kevin!
- Archon810, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it's not working right now... :(
- jzillan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it enhances your search experience by providing relevant links to articles that matter. the articles you see in the SERPS (search engine results pages) are "FRESH" ....not old or outdated.
- norz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It would be great to have a co-op module for yahoo my web. But I guess this is taboo, isn't it?
- aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Really good feature, the next thing we need is a Digg content feature for Google iG that allows you to DIGG from the iG homepage!
All of these little features really add up on this site, without adding to complexity! Great stuff, keep it up. - jgee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2If it's rss based, prolly is, it takes some time to refresh.
- beatniak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wow
- fuxjoey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It's a good look for Digg, no question. But how does it actually enhance our search experience? I guess Im not completely understand how it works yet.
- rusdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, it'd be nice if Kevin could comment in the blog/diggnation how this came out. The News.com (CNet) article just says "the companies are not paying to participate in the subscription part of Google Co-op, she said."
- yuletide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow... I'd never even heard of this Co-op thing before... sounds interesting. Nice post!
- BlackPhantom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2There may be others but only about 5 or 6 and the others really do suck...
