- jeremiah, on 04/02/2009, -151/+797Very cool and not at all what I expected. Great job!
- phlezk, on 04/02/2009, -77/+532these comments suck.
- serif69, on 04/02/2009, -46/+432To turn it off:
Go to My Profile > Settings > viewing preferences
The setting is under Site-wide Preferences as Show DiggBar?
I don't like it when a site decides that I want to use its toolbar to visit any external link. I'm grateful that it can be turned off on digg. - macfan93, on 04/02/2009, -75/+405I like that you can see the number of views a story gets. It would be cool to see ratios for views:diggs
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -26/+186thanks, i never want to see that ***** bar again.
- anubis2night, on 04/02/2009, -39/+137man whats with all the comments being dugg down on here it's like some swarm of smug ***** just blew thru this thread, never fear I dugg you guys back a bit
- ycohain, on 04/02/2009, -15/+112the views feature is described totally incorrectly - it's not the number of global views that any page gets (there's no way they can tell that), but rather it's the number of views from digg. Big difference.
I'd love to see the view to digg rate for power users like MrBabyMan. I bet they just blindly digg without viewing the article. - Q8Jin, on 04/02/2009, -16/+99I just tried to digg-bar digg, I think i created black hole in internet with that.
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -24/+102I'm a virgin. :(
- J0hnnyBlaze, on 04/02/2009, -23/+98burried. i wanted to get drunk there.
- burnin8r28, on 04/02/2009, -1/+77These replies suck.
- KaiserArny, on 04/02/2009, -6/+77If you don't like it, Don't use it. As simple as that.
- netneutrality, on 04/03/2009, -3/+49What if I don't want to log in and/or keep cookies enabled and/or turn it off everywhere I go? It's absolutely ***** irritating is what it is. Messes up bookmarking and makes the browser jumpy.
- Amavel, on 04/02/2009, -2/+47:D
..oh wait.. please don't tell me this is going to be a common thing, AverageDigger. - Florian, on 04/03/2009, -1/+44Thanks for adding a way to turn it off completely in account settings. Appreciate that.
- serif69, on 04/02/2009, -5/+44Just a note: it doesn't seem to be sticking for me, just like all of the other viewing preferences. I've already had to switch back twice.
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -13/+44Bacon wrapped boobies don't even stand a chance in here.
- choward, on 04/02/2009, -3/+33You can get a bookmarklet here: http://digg.com/tools/diggbar
- crazzy88ss, on 04/03/2009, -1/+30I really do wish I could digg you up more than once. The bar's annoying.
- z3niMAGiNE, on 04/02/2009, -11/+40Can't wait till there's a bunch of ads up there.
- westyvw, on 04/03/2009, -3/+30Agreed. Thats crap. I already have greasemonkey giving me Digg the way I want it. I dont need some crap bar, whats next Frames?
- gaiatheory, on 04/03/2009, -1/+28The bar needs to go. With the bar enabled, if you browse away from the original Digg link, but then decide to close the bar, watch in horror as you are taken away from your current web page back to the original Digg link.
This is terrible and as a digg user that often doesn't bother to sign in, changing preferences doesn't help me or any casual digg user.
Design a firefox add-on and be done with it. Look to delicious.com for the right way to integrate with a browser.
Thanks but no thanks. - swimtwobirds, on 04/02/2009, -2/+29very true. i thought this was just death bury brigade, but they're weirdly awful comments.
- simonjs, on 04/02/2009, -1/+28You did, I just fell
ʇı ɥbnoɹɥʇ - dburka, on 04/02/2009, -4/+28Currently the DiggBar is throttled to only _some_ users. In our internal testing, stories get a lot more views than Diggs fwiw.
- inigomntoya, on 04/02/2009, -4/+27Definitely better than installing another app to do this for you!
- mcoyle1960, on 04/03/2009, -4/+26As a webmaster, I feel the Digg Bar hijacks my URL. This is a big THUMBS DOWN.
- brisketplease, on 04/02/2009, -1/+23quick, man! disable your cookies!!
- ldhertert, on 04/02/2009, -5/+25Or people have dugg the story + viewed the page sans DiggBar
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -9/+29So what kinda drinks will this bar... nevermind.
- MacPhill, on 04/02/2009, -2/+21Did you even read the ***** article? No.
- arcsine, on 04/03/2009, -0/+17This is terrible and there are a ton of navigation problems in using it...the link at top changes...sucks for passing the link on to other people. When you close the digg bar after you've navigated away from the original page you're moved back to the original page (WRONG!).
- eadnams, on 04/02/2009, -2/+19wow, its not a toolbar to download, you tool.
- kinseyincanada, on 04/03/2009, -0/+16the same has been happening to me with the preferences on comments. I always save it to show all comments, but it keeps reverting back to -10.
- Enishiru, on 04/03/2009, -1/+17haha
representing the average digger, I see - hektur, on 04/02/2009, -12/+28Cool!
Love how it shortens URLs.
http://digg.com/d1khLD - sfrench, on 04/02/2009, -2/+17thanks for the comment... I'll be looking into it.
- MWeather, on 04/02/2009, -3/+18That requires it to load in the first place, which negates the point of removing it.
- monkeymad2, on 04/02/2009, -2/+16I think i saw him saying he was gay in another thread. oh well, that's news to us. girlfriiiend!
- therearenorules, on 04/02/2009, -16/+28Cool, yes; innovative, no. StumbleUpon has had something like this for awhile.
- mbstrlbstr, on 04/02/2009, -1/+13Thanks, why didn't they link this in the article?
- oepapel, on 04/03/2009, -2/+14This is a step backwards for security on the web. "Stealing" the Url is a very bad idea for many reasons...
- Users need to be able to see the real Url of the page they visit. A tinyurl service is fine if it redirects and shows the real Url but this service doesn't. If this service becomes popular then that just gives attackers another way to legitimize their fake paypal/bank/login pages.
- Is Digg really ready to sign up for the task of vouching for every link they create? Is there a system in place to report fishing links that have been laundered through Digg? If not then digg urls will soon be blocked by every security blacklisting service and corporate firewall.
- As more and more sites try to deal with Clickjacking issues, many links will simply break out of the diggbar, and the customer will lose all value of this service. Worse, if sites have adopted the new X-FRAME-OPTIONS header, the diggbar will render but the page underneath will be blocked by the browser. This means anyone using the NoScript plugin in Firefox or using IE8 can't use these links. And after all, what good is a tinyurl service that can't show the original content?
This service is broken-by-design in a world where internet security is no longer a "nice to have" feature of the browser. - Angostura, on 04/02/2009, -12/+21Hate it. Get it out of my face.
- airwalkery2k, on 04/03/2009, -2/+13You made Kevin cry, =*(
- immatellyouwhat, on 04/02/2009, -3/+14Now's not the time, but yes I concur
- YesImAChick, on 04/02/2009, -1/+12http://digg.com/tools/diggbar
- Brad324, on 04/02/2009, -5/+16New homepage: digg.com/google.com
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 04/03/2009, -1/+12It's so ***** annoying.
- dburka, on 04/02/2009, -2/+13The NYTimes has a piece of javascript that disables toolbars like ours. It's too bad.
- preppeller, on 04/03/2009, -0/+11Thanks! I turned it off mainly because i hate how it hides the destination site url when hovering the story link.
When browsing the upcoming stories, I like to make a call wether its going to be SFW by looking at and recognising the domain names or simply just making a call on wether the domain name looks plain dodgy. -
