- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah im sure your Apple cinema looks way better siting next to that massive pile of regret that comes with it
- clumsyninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I need this for word processing and email. :P
- kvidell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1GhostFreeman: What'll really get the apple boy's goose's is pointing out that the Dell and Cinema 24's use all the same components and LCD, and it's basically just the outer husk that's different.
- MrMysterious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My 20" has width envy!
- Bago, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1kvidell: that's not true. Dell's has VGA and DVI connectors while the Apple one doesn't. This means they at least added an analog/digital converter.
- KamikazeH20mln, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why didn't the author just link straight to the Dell website? Instead they linked to *their* site for traffic. Damn traffic riding whores.
- fazed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the monitor itself seems nice, but the base looks horrible. i wish they would stick with their old base. the old has a loop in the back to stuff all the cables into which doesn't sound like much, but once you utilize that usb bus you appreciate it.
- DannyB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why are my boxers wet?
- Kindred420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0gotta have it,ill retire or sell my 24" incher for this
- idesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'm a brainwashed mac lovah, yet i own a dell 20" widescreen. Why? Same panel, more inputs, cheaper.
Way uglier though. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It'S not new, been there for 1-2 month.
- StephanSchmidt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't comment on the 30" but we have lots of 20" Dell and 20" Cinemas and the Cinemas are just better with a better picture, everyone agrees on that when we have the Dells and Cinemas side by side. But obviously the 30" Dell display will lead to cheaper 30" Cinemas with better quality than the current ones.
- GregsDailies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is great news! Dell comes out with a better product than apple 2 years later and everyone says apple sucks.. Just wait till dell releases this and apple answers with a 60inch anamorphic True HD display...
- suMMx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awesome, i couldnt be more happy with my 2405 though.
- Jetfire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where is the Web Coupon? Man I just finished buy parts to build my new machine to run my 2 24"WS Dells. I hope their priced under $2000 then I might buy one end of next year.
- waiwai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's the HP L2335 that has the same panel as the 23" Cinema, although other match ups are quite common as well. Dell, Apple, HP, etc., none of them make LCD panels anyway. So informed people tend to talk about the visual qualities of the Samsung panels vs. the LG.Philips that are used instead. IME it isn't worth mentioning to Apple users, however, since they often lack the technical ability to understand and usually buy based on the color of the casing or some other meaningless idiocy anyway.
- transcendental, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now I'll just have to wait two years before dell sell this at a ridiculous price to meet year end goals.
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty nice, but I picked-up 2 of the 2405s on-sale instead (for probably about the same price as a single 30"). They look mighty fine :)
- texxmexx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0we can only hope this will push the price of the apple displays down :o)
- sLydE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if only I hadn't bought those 3 19" Viewsonics that are on my desk right now...
- StatusQuoRules, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0kvidell, Apple do not produce a 24" LCD so how is it possible for them to use the same panel (23" and 24")
- xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that thing is gonna cost a bundle...
- grayBot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...2.....1...... apple fanboy here..... but.....2560x1600...... holy *****!!!
what is that super-true-ultra HD ?
if they can get this near $1500 ...i would have to get it.... - haloevo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Old news, but still, damn awesome. Wish I could afford one.
- Tonyisbad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jesus that puts my dell 20.1" widescreen to shame, that monitor is just plain sick.
- megatron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You're a tough customer tasadar24. Be nice.
Looks boss. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would love to have that but not the price!
- toliman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1the specs for the 3007FPW / WFP are better than the apple 30" cinema display, brightness is 700:1 instead of 400:1, 11ms vs 16ms, and likely cheaper.
still, that conclusion is inevitable really. i have the 2405, its more than enough for me, but 30" WS is great for a TV/HTPC replacement, it should also come with a much better component input, but its still great for anyone who wants one. - rizzo011, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LAME. linking to your own blog to generate traffic for your ad banners is LAME
no digg - ezkiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Introducing UHDTV. *drool*
And as a Mac fanboy I have to say I wish Apple would drop their prices to be a little competitive.
The true fanboys have more cash than me and can afford the markup.
"Michael Dell is into goth. everythings always frigen black. and napy , matte, plastic , black. its a big ugly LCD."
Trust me on this. You want a matte finish on your lcd frame. Could you image if it was shiney silver how distracting things going by would be. I only care about the picture.
Also the stand isnt even black. Thought the demo image (which i dont know if dell is responsible for) is a bit post apocalyptic - bpd115, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If it's say 1900 and we get one of those awesome dell monitor deals with the Coupons etc that drop it down to 1500 or so...Count me in....Gotta get a video card for my Powermac that supports it though....but I'd have no problem sitting it next to my 23" Apple display :)
- Cyberdactyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've just purchased the FPW2400 (24"...1900x1200 native res) and I must say I love the hell out of it. But this new 30" better be pricey, or I'm gonna be pissed!
- synmoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've got a 2005FPW here with an Acer 17 next to it...Overall dimensions are 2960x1050-1024. This comes up short on the width, but the height makes up for it.
I'll pick one of these up for home as soon as they dip below $1500. Perfect for a small room to double as a tv for MCE and get an extender for the big tv in the living room. - videolab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The dell uses the same panel as the apple cinema display so besides design they are the same.
- cypherz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why all the Apple user bashing? Most users of high-end macs that I know fall into 2 groups: Video production guys and Unix-o-philes. These types DO have the technical understanding to pick good equipment. Guess what? Most of the Apple usin' folks I know don't have Apple monitors. Typically there are better monitors for video production than what Apple sells. The 20 and 23 inch monitors they sell right now are pretty good. The 30" Cinema Display isn't very bright, has so-so contrast and slowish response time. A production company here in H-Town uses the 23 inchers instead of the 30. They also have a bunch of non-apple monitors from various vendors.
FWIW, I know more dumbass users who buy Dells than Apple. Why? Dells products are decent, and lots more available (price price price) than Apple products. The only exception of course is the iPod. Since OS X there has been a big migration of Unix old-timers to the Apple Mac. The population of Tech-savvy Apple "fanboys" has thus risen sharply in the last few years.
All that being said, I would love to have the Dell 30" on my desk at work to replace the 2 22" Viewsonics hooked up to my development box, a Shuttle XPC. A dual monitor setup is OK, but I really really wish I havd the same desktop space on ONE monitor. *sigh* They'll never buy one for me... - dee-vee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Stil no official word on the 2407? 30inch is to big for gaming and being up close to it.
- dawks-, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What kind of video card setup will we need?
- 3Den, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't get the apple bashing either. Relative qualities aside, and errors in non-standard measurement aside.... Dell is announcing that they are going to announce this soon....
Apple HAS 30" monitors, and has had for a couple years.
Also.. you can't compare necessarily response times between monitors... there is no baseline or standard for measurement. - pivo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The problem with apple hardware isn't that it's expensive, the problem is that I can't afford it. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to afford this either.
- pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0damn sexy .... 0.o will it have my children?
- LoungeActx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0honestly...30"...do you know how long it would take you to move your mouse from one side of the screen to the other? my 23" cinema display is definitely large enough...
- crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Boring, I'll stick with my 15in TV.
- txmail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would buy a projector over most LCD / Plasma screens, the response and contrast might not be as good, but having a 96" viewing area just kicks ass! Even if it is only in a lower resolution such as 1024 x 768!
- haxr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*drool*
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cypherz: I'm in h-town as well.
- DewayneSmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll have to upgrade.
- badnewsblair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apple USER here. No "fanboy" here, but if you get flamed you deserve it for throwing the gauntlet down first. That aside, Dell displays are great because they have more inputs and are cheaper. On paper they reign supreme over Apple cinema displays and most others.
However, the viewing angle is horrible (worse than Apple's) and my biggest qualm with them from personal experience is that the display arm is weak and the monitor wobbles at the slightest movement of the desk. If you have a cat that jumps up on your desk, if you play FPSs, or otherwise move your hand at all, you will get motion sickness at the drop of a hat.
That being said, it's a nice display, but for real... who needs 30" display?! 23" is plenty big for me. Is it the geek equivalent of "who has the fastest, most badass car"? - ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0estimated price = $2300. For that kind of money, a guy could build two nice PC's, with two good quality 19" LCD's, have them side-by-side and use Stardock's Multiplicity to seamlessly move between them. That's what I did ... and that's twice the computing power, and 38" of screen space :)
- gamefoo21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, a black framed monitor will let you think your monitor looks bigger and brighter. A silver/white side does the opposite.
Its like with interior decorating, you want the room to look bigger you paint it in darker colours. Less light reflection gives the feeling of the wall being further away.
But that is a sexy monitor... thats what I need crossfired X1800XTPE's for... That monitor is nerd pron. - McZiggz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The reason that your Apple CD looks better than your Dell 20" (goes the same for the 24") is that although the LCD panels both come from Samsung, Apple's backlight is brighter. Which makes for a more pleasant picture.
Also, if you've noticed all TVs are coming in silver casing anymore, rather than the old black. I would be willing to bet that studys show that this is more pleasing to the eye. Probably less conclusive and dramatic to your sight (colors on black vs. colors on grey) so your eye lets you believe the screen is larger, or the colors are better. I'm sure its no coincedence that Apple's monitors come in silver casing, Apple is a company of detail. Dell isn't... so why not use black? Heck, black computers were all the rage in the late 90s :-P You were so cool if you had a black IBM. I suppose more than half of PCs today are black now, but ya... i'm sure Apple's silver frame is a result of some research. -
